Mariah honoured at 2003 Soul Train Awards

Superstar Mariah Carey became the latest recipient of the Quincy Jones Award for Outstanding Career Achievements in the Field of Entertainment Female at the 17th Annual Soul Train Music Awards in Los Angeles. The award, named in honour of legendary performer Quincy Jones, has previously being awarded to The Isly Brothers, Luther Vandross and Whitney Houston.

"Thank you so much! I just have to thank God, above everything. I wouldn't be standing here today without his blessing and I'm very grateful," she said after being handed the prestigious award by producer/ songwriter Babyface. "I'm grateful to everybody. My new family at Island/Def Jam - Lyor, Julie, Kevin - everybody! Thank you Jerry Blair. Thank you everybody at Maroon. And my fans. You have brought me through everything. Everything! And thank you to everyone who has contributed to my music over my career. Thank you so much. God bless."

Prior to the award being presented, Carey performed a stiring rendition of gospel-inspired ballad "My Saving Grace" from her latest album "Charmbracelet". A lifetime of pictures filled the screens behind her, reminding the audience of just how far the multi-octave singer has come. As the crowd erupted in applause and rose to their feet in a unified standing ovation, the smile that swept across the recently troubled singer's face signalled that she was well and truly back.
