1998's "When You Believe", the dynamic diva duet of Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, may already shine as one of the most celebrated collaborations of all time, but the latest toast to the "Prince of Egypt" jewel comes as a Platinum crowning from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Houston made history Friday (January 27) when the RIAA published a slew of certification updates for some of her greatest hits including "Greatest Love of All", "I'm Your Baby Tonight" (the song), "So Emotional", and more.
A standout among the group of updates was "Believe", which now sits at Platinum status for digital sales of 1 million units in the United States. It was previously certified Gold for physical sales of 500,000 copies in the same territory.
Despite peaking at #15 on the U.S. Pop charts in January 1999, the Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds-penned song received high praise from fans and critics – a feat underscored by its capturing of the Academy Award for Best Original Song that same year.
At writing it remains a fan favorite from each of the divas' prized discographies and one of the most lauded soundtrack singles ever produced.
