Mariah's playing Gwinnett Arena in September

Singer Mariah Carey is apparently the next A-list performer to make a date at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. While there has been no formal announcement of the event - yet - Carey's official Web site indicates that the performer will be taking the stage at the Arena on September 9. Her camp may have spilled the beans a tad too soon.

"I cannot officially confirm that," said Arena general manager Preston Williams. "In the next week or so we'll be able to talk about it." The concert is part of Carey's "Charmbracelet World Tour", which is supporting her album of the same name. The Grammy-award winning performer is the only recording artist to have a No. 1 single every year during the 1990s and is the first female artist to have two of her albums reach 10 million each in sales.

Her concert is the latest coup for the Arena. The 13,0000-seat facility was christened in February with a performance by George Strait followed by Bruce Springsteen. Several other notable acts, such as Coldplay and Avril Lavigne, have either played or are slated to perform at the Arena.

Carey, though, is the first major star since Springsteen to commit. While Williams wouldn't confirm that Carey will play, he did say that other acts of her stature are close to sealing deals for concerts at the Arena. Announcements, he said, are imminent. "We're close to several things," Williams said.
