Mariah's healthy comeback

Mariah Carey is basking in the success of her 12th album, "Charmbracelet", and getting ready for yet another around-the-world tour. To add more icing to her cake, the singer also took home the Quincy Jones Award for Lifetime Achievement at the 2003 Soul Train Awards. Yes, things are definitely looking up for the Grammy Award-winning songbird who has gone through some tough times in the past few years.

Carey is feeling fabulous and more energized than ever - which she attributes in large part to her new focus on nurturing her body. We caught up with the pop superstar to learn more about her yen for exercising in the water, what it's like to have Dr. Evil as a workout buddy and how an upbeat rhythm works wonders as a motivational tool.

Lifetime: What do you do differently these days as far as taking care of yourself?

Mariah: Well, I'm eating much healthier now, having mini meals throughout the day since my work schedule is so hectic. I also work out more often with a personal trainer.

Lifetime: What is your favorite form of exercise?

Mariah: I love doing an aerobic workout in the water. When I was vacationing in the islands, I would exercise with my trainer in the pool and it was such a great, strenuous workout.

Lifetime: We've heard you enjoy watching television or movies while pedaling away on the exercise bike. What films get you pumped up?

Mariah: I have to say that watching comedies such as "Austin Powers" really keeps me laughing and motivated, which is great when you're exercising.

Lifetime: What about music? Do you ever sing or listen to tunes while working up a sweat?

Mariah: I don't do too much singing, but I do listen to many different things while I work out. I look for something with a hot beat that keeps me going.

Lifetime: What are your favorite and least favorite exercise moves?

Mariah: I don't really have a favorite or least favorite, but working on specific areas and seeing results really keeps me motivated to stick with any type of program. When I'm not performing, I enjoy hanging out with friends, a bit of vacation time and swimming. Swimming is great exercise and incredibly relaxing as well.

Lifetime: What does the word fitness mean to you?

Mariah: For me, it's maintaining a healthy mind, body and soul, eating properly, and getting the appropriate amount of exercise and plenty of rest! My basic goals are just to be the best person I can be, take care of myself and enjoy life to the fullest.
