Mariah Carey Aussie fansite closes

Mariah Carey's Australian fansite mariahdownunder.com has closed because the founders feel the singer just isn't being promoted properly in the region. The final straw for the decision to close why Australian being snubbed on the current world tour. "With the announcement of the world tour, and the revelation that Australia will yet again miss out, a clear message has been sent to every Australian Mariah fan" founder Neil Kenna says in a statement to Undercover News. "It is a blatant slap in the face to each and every fan who works so hard in promoting everything Mariah releases. With requesting campaigns and more, Australian fans are some of the most dedicated in the world. And while we all know that Mariah cannot possibly go to every country, and that a lot of other fans are also missing out, Australia is the only country that has shown so much support, and got so little in return".

Rising costs against a lack of interest to promote Mariah in Australia is another deciding factor in the closure. "Running a comprehensive and professionally-designed website not only takes a lot of money, but also endless time and energy. For years I didn't mind the effort as I felt it really helped promote Mariah in Australia and it gave Australian fans some feeling of unity. However, in recent months it has become increasingly clear that Mariah's management and label feel they do not need to promote her in this region, so why should I?" Neil says.

He says he finds the lack of Mariah's presence in the country disappointing. "The fact Mariah has been so successful here and yet has only been to our country once is disappointing. Instead of attempting to reconnect with those fans who delivered endless hits in the early to mid-90s, Mariah's management and label continue to alienate them even further".

Neil sites Mariah's success as a recording artist as all the more reason she should have included Australia in the current tour. "Mariah's success in Australia is unparalleled by any other female artist" he says. "The statistics speak for themselves: 4 million units sold; three No.1 albums; one No. 1 single; 28 platinum album certifications and 21 top ten singles and albums. In recent years Mariah's popularity has been in decline, however this is no surprise - in fact it's only logical considering no promotion is allocated to Australia".

He also says although Charmbraclet has been a big success overseas, it went virtually unnoticed in Australia. "When Charmbracelet was released, Australia was granted only three media interviews as promotion. As a result the album debuted and peaked at No. 42, the worst result by far for any Mariah Carey album" he says.

Neil says the reason he is shutting the site is not Mariah's fault. We wanted to make it clear that this negativity is in no way a reflection of how we feel for Mariah. It is not Mariah's decision and we will always love, appreciate and enjoy the woman she is, and the music she makes".
