Mariah Carey downsizing tour
Mariah Carey is completely revamping her North American tour plans. The arena trek, which was due to begin July 18 in Anchorage, Alaska, is being downsized to "something more intimate", according to a spokesperson, who also promises "something different than what Mariah has ever done before".
A new routing is being assembled and could be announced as early as next week. A post on Carey's official Web site instructs fans to "hold onto your confirmations/ receipts as we will be providing additional information shortly".
Carey's upcoming dates in the Far East will continue as planned, beginning June 21 in Seoul, South Korea, and wrapping July 15 in Nagoya, Japan. Beforehand, the artist will be on hand June 1 in East Rutherford, N.J., for New York radio station WHTZ's Zootopia concert.
"This is not a 'greatest hits' show. This is mostly about songs the fans connect with," the artist told Billboard earlier this month. "I have such a wealth of material, if I feel like it I can go into different songs than two nights before."
As for Carey's Monarc/Island album "Charmbracelet", sources tell Billboard the label will relaunch the set July 29 with four new tracks. Carey is currently No. 4 on Billboard's Hot 100 with "I Know What You Want", a duet with Busta Rhymes. That song, which appears on Rhymes' J album "It Ain't Safe No More", will be added to the new "Charmbracelet".
The set will be rounded out with two new tunes and a remix. It will also carry a different cover from the original. "Charmbracelet", released Dec. 3, 2002, has sold 1 million units in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. First single "Through the Rain" fizzled at No. 81 on the Hot 100, while second single "Boy (I Need You)" failed to reach the chart. Island declined comment on the revamped album. (Reuters/Billboard)
