Mariah mail mystery

When you send an email to a pop star's website you don't really expect a personal response from the star in question, and you especially don't expect them to tell you to get lost! That's exactly what happened to blind 10-year old Mariah Carey fan Michelle Katz, whose Gran mailed the star's site and asked if Ms Carey could meet her Granddaughter when she came to town to play a concert. Mariah's been cancelling her tour dates and moving to more intimate venues, which had left the girl without a ticket, so her Gran wrote: "I know it is not very probable but you have no idea what it would mean to this child if she could meet Mariah even for five minutes. You would make one girl's dreams come true."

Imagine her astonishment when she recieved this response: "Miss with all due respect, I have my own problems. I have no time to accommodate everyone else's. My sister is suffering from HIV right now. Is anyone worried about my problems? Some people can be so damn selfish. Next time you email me with any requests, you will be reported. Have a great day! m.c."

Carey's publicist immediately insisted the mail was a total hoax, and said that: "Mariah is looking forward to meeting Michelle and her family backstage at a concert during her Charmbracelet tour." Indeed, Mariah apparently phoned Michelle the second she heard what had happened. So if Mariah didn't send the email, who did? Suspicion must fall on the people who run her site, one of who seems to have a few "issues" with Ms C!
