Swipe Mariah Carey's style...

BEAUTY

Mariah Carey's unique beauty is the result of mixed Venezuelan, Irish and African-American ethnicity. But there are a few other things you should know about the superstar's must-have "beautifying" accessories and special routines.

Skin

First and foremost, Mariah uses a Humidifier to keep her skin moist and fresh. "I'm into makeup and good at doing my own - I had 500 hours of beauty-school training in the 11th grade," she says. As for irritated skin, Mariah recommends you "soak a cotton ball in a mix of milk and ice, and then use it as a compress."

Hair

Mariah confesses that her biggest beauty blunder occurred during her teen years when she decided to experiment with dying her hair. Carey also admits to a close call when it came to plucking her eyebrows. "Once I used a razor to shape my eyebrows. I kept shaving off more and more to get them even. Pretty soon, they were gone. I stuck to tweezers after that," she laughs.

Eyes

To achieve Mariah's exotic look, try lining your upper lids with Perfect Points Plus Eye Pencil in Espresso. Then try One-Kit Professional Eye Enhancers in Swiss Chocolate on the lids up to the crease, and finish with two coats of black mascara.

Cheeks

For the Mariah look, try sweeping "Cheekers Blush" in Soft Sable on the apples of your cheeks.

Lips

So what exactly is it in Mariah's make-up bag that brings those luscious lips to life? "It's so full, I'm not sure, though I always carry a M•A•C Spice lip pencil," she says. For the Mariah look, why not try using a continuous Color Lip Definer in Brown tones. Then fill them with a Marathon Lipcolor in Café au Lait.

FASHION

In 1999 Carey caused quite a stir when the video for her single "Heartbreaker" premiered on MTV. The clip showed Mariah sporting a pair of Waistless jeans - which became an instant global fashion fad. Stars such as Christina Aguilera, Kylie Minogue, and Lenny Kravtiz were quick to capitalize on Mariah's new trend. So how exactly does one achieve the "waistless" effect? It's simple. All you need is your scissors! The jeans start at the hips... so the waistband, top button, and belt loops must be cut off to achieve the low-slung effect. The jeans (worn skintight so they don't slide off!), should be faded or old - this is part of the look. Thin diamanté belts are then slung snake-like right around the hips before being left to dangle.

DIET

Just how does Mariah maintain such an ideal figure? "Well, I'm eating much healthier now, having mini meals throughout the day since my work schedule is so hectic," she says. "I also work out more often with a personal trainer." According to MTV, Mariah requested Evian bottled water, low fat margarine, and even donuts and danishes during her last tour. Nowdays the leggy star limits herself to lots of salads with fish and skinless broiled chicken. Word has it that Carey has even traded in her favourite Crystal champagne for bottled water, and iced tea with a slice of lemon and no sweetener. Baskets of fruit are also a must for the dressing room. Mariah also has a personal chef and nutritionist.

EXERCISE

With this diva's busy schedule, it must be hard finding the time to work out. Carey confesses she often heads for water when it comes to keeping in shape - "I love doing an aerobic workout in the water. When I was vacationing in the islands, I would exercise with my trainer in the pool and it was such a great, strenuous workout."

Mariah also hits the treadmill to keep in shape, and says that watching TV while toning up helps to pass the time. "I have to say that watching comedies such as "Austin Powers" really keeps me laughing and motivated, which is great when you're exercising."

So does Mariah like to sing or listen to music while working? "I don't do too much singing, but I do listen to many different things while I work out. I look for something with a hot beat that keeps me going," she says. In 1997, the songbird revealed that she doesn't do aerobic exercise when singing - "It depletes my energy and takes the edge off my voice. So instead, I do sit-ups, leg raises, and push-ups."

Carey admits to not have a favourite exercise "move" - "Working on specific areas and seeing results really keeps me motivated to stick with any type of program," she says. Carey is undoubtedly toned. "I always have been a natural athlete, I love to run at the beach", she says. "Capri was marvelous. I spent a lot of time going up and down hills. When I'm on the road I walk a lot and I'm usually accompanied by my little dog Jack. When I have a break in my work agenda I go walking with him. To do the shows is also an excusing exercise. I dance a lot and I do a lot of training on stage. My oldest brother Morgan used to put me to raise my legs to do abdominal exercise since I was a little girl. He practices kick boxing and I was always imitating him." So just what is Mariah's long-term goal? "My basic goals are just to be the best person I can be, take care of myself and enjoy life to the fullest," she says. You go, girl!

Did you know that that singing along to Mariah's ballads may well increase lung endurance? Well it's true! According to Leisure, Health & Fitness Magazine, singing enables someone, of any age or gender to improve breathing techniques, without them knowing that they are doing it - thus modifying the time of the average work out by up to 20% longer. "The Mariah Carey 'Lung Work Out' does work, actually the fact is exercising to one song is equivalent to running 250 metres (for the lungs, not muscular composition). You will know it's working if you feel out-of-breath after a song is completed. Be careful if you have respiratory problems."

RELAXATION

So just when does Mariah take the time to unwind from her busy schedule? "When I'm not performing, I enjoy hanging out with friends, a bit of vacation time and swimming. Swimming is great exercise and incredibly relaxing as well." Carey even hired a masseuse who helps her overcome those aches and pains at the end of a long day.

SPIRITUALITY

Mariah's spirituality shines through her music, and is evident in her lyrics to songs such as "Can't Take That Away", "Make It Happen", and "My Saving Grace", which appears on her latest release, "Charmbracelet". Here Carey sings "Giving me peace Giving me strength when I'd Almost lost it all Catching my every fall I still exist because you keep me safe I found my saving grace within you And the bountiful things that you do Lord thank you For delivering me."

Celebrity Horoscopes had this to say about Mariah's astrological blueprint - The songbird was born on March 27, 1970: "Born under an Aries Sun, Carey is a feisty and independent woman who wants to be the best. Much to her credit, Carey has the enthusiasm and initiative to be front-page news. With her Sun Conjunct Mercury, Mariah's will to act on all her many ideas is further strengthened. Nervous energy is the order of the day here - mainly good. Carey's Sun and Mercury both find themselves Opposite Uranus, the Planet of Rebellion, in her chart. The Sun's Opposition to Mercury's Opposition to Uranus sounds off in the form of consistent ideas, and interesting points of view.

Thanks to her Mercury in Aries, Carey won't always think before she speaks. Mariah is fast on her feet, loves to mix it up and is a fighter when it comes to verbal sparring. With her Venus, Planet of Love, also in Aries, the singer is competitive when it comes to relationships, although she is also deliciously sociable and delightfully romantic.

Her Mars in Taurus brings Carey back to terra firma. The Bull's meeting with the Planet of Passion signals strength and determination, but of a more measured and purposeful variety. The songstress will get the things she wants, albeit in due course. Since Mars is Conjunct stern Saturn here, Carey will see to it that she's always got a plan and is working steadily toward it."
