We Belong Together is song of the decade

Billboard announced today that the most popular song of the decade is Mariah Carey's We Belong Together. The song was the second single from the multi-platinum hit album The Emancipation of Mimi. It spent 14 weeks at the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 (best achievement this decade and second only to Mariah's "One Sweet Day"). This universal smash hit won two Grammy awards in 2006 and received nominations for Record and Song of the year. It was certified 2x platinum by the RIAA for selling over 2 million copies.

We Belong Together is also the #1 Hot 100 Airplay song of the decade. It was released to radio in 2005 and broke the one-week audience total in BDS history and spent a decade-best 16 weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart. Other achievements for Mariah on Billboard's Decade-End charts include:

Artist of the Decade - #11

Artists with Most #1 Songs - #3 (4 songs)

Songs with Most Weeks at #1 - #2 (We Belong Together - 14 non-consecutive weeks)
