The ball wasn't dropped on New Year's Eve partying

Where and how did the rich and famous ring in 2003? Britney Spears may be taking a break from the spotlight, but she didn't sit home alone on New Year's Eve. The pop star co-hosted a party in New York with her new pal, Star Wars actress and Harvard student Natalie Portman. The two met more than a year ago at a listening party for Spears' latest album. They joined in the Brazilian carnival theme at Ian Schrager's Hudson Hotel. Among the guests: Denis Leary, Sam Rockwell and Keri Russell.

In Beverly Hills, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne renewed their wedding vows during a New Year's Eve party at the Beverly Hills Hotel with more than 300 guests. According to Entertainment Tonight, Sharon wore a cream-colored wedding gown and diamond tiara. Daughter Kelly was flower girl. The Village People provided the music. Guests included Justin Timberlake, Marilyn Manson and Chris Rock.

In Miami, a slew of hip celebs celebrated at Schrager's Delano hotel. JC Chasez of 'N Sync, Lenny Kravitz, Rosario Dawson, Shannon Elizabeth, Jamie Foxx, Tara Reid and Rashida Jones were among those who took golf carts to the beach to party till the wee hours at Schrager's Shore Club.

In the Caribbean, on St. Bart's, Mariah Carey celebrated the new year with pals at a restaurant. Sun Valley, Idaho, drew a slew of stars for the New Year's holiday week. A screening of Antwone Fisher got a rousing reception Monday from a crowd including Michael Keaton, Sylvester Stallone, Scott Glenn, Rob Reiner and astronaut Buzz Aldrin. Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry threw a New Year's Eve party at the posh ski resort, where he has visited since he wed Teresa Heinz in '95. Barbra Streisand and James Brolin, Shaquille O'Neal, Martin Short and Donna Karan also enjoyed the deep powder. Streisand was among guests at the New Year's Day "Food, Football and Fun" event at the home of lawyer Jake Bloom.
