About Stephen from London, United Kingdom: Mariah fan since 1902.

Diamonds/videos (36,720) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
With all due respect, I think the influence Rihanna has on her artistic direction, image, styling, videos, etc, is very limited, if indeed present at all. So it's not fair to compare her to Mariah. However, I am of the opinion, and have said this on this board before, Mariah's videos in recent years have been lame and uninspiring. She definitely needs a new creative direction and should take a chance on a young, up and coming director. No more videos from Nick please. It is getting ridiculous.

Bring It On Home (36,694) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
Wow, Mariah totally surprised me with that one. It's such a good song, possibly her best piece of work for a number of years in my opinion. I really really like it. It's soulful, with a gospel feel, with a bit of jazz and rnb. It's a great song, with a great feel and a wonderful message. Songs like this can possibly be cheesy, but this doesn't feel cheesy at all. I'm very proud of Mariah for this and for the way she rallied behind President Obama over the past couple of days. I'm really glad she's got her political game on and is putting her immense fame to good use.

I couldn't agree more. Quality over sales any day. There's been a distinct lack of quality for some time now.

Fashion Police (36,585) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
Did anyone see Fashion Police on tv this week? It was a 1992 special, and they counted down the top 5 looks of 1992, and Mariah Carey was the number 1 must see look of 1992. They crowned her best dressed of the week for her 1992 AMAs outfit. They normally shade Mariah hard on Fashion Police, but they cheered her throughout. I can only assume it was a high five being thrown at her because of the whole Minaj incident. They still shaded her a little, but they do that with everyone on Fashion Police. Mariah looked banging btw. It was a sexy little number too. Not one of her high necked Tommy M requests.

This is true. It's called maturity. No two people have the same opinion on everything at any one time.

You almost changed my mind, so we're not that far off one another lol. No shade was intended.

Stacey/Nattalie (36,552) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
You make some good points. As a result I'll leave it there lol. Nattalie, great minds and all that.

Stacey (36,539) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
Nobody is saying she can't like somebody more than Mariah, well at least I'm not. That's not the issue. It's coming onto a Mariah messageboard and mentioning 11 other artists above her in a list. It's not necessary, as it's a Mariah messageboard, not a generic messageboard for numerous artists. I don't care if she likes Whitney, or anybody else for that matter, more than Mariah, it's just that this is a Mariah messageboard and therefore it's not really the forum for that kind of thing. I don't expect everyone to be all Mariah, all the time lol. I love plenty of other female artists, but I'm not gonna bang on about it on this messageboard. Well, not unless there's a very specific issue, a la Ms Minaj lol. This message isn't meant in a nasty way, just thought I should make my viewpoint clear.

The Dream (36,535) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
No Mariah, just no. This album is starting to sound worse by the minute. She needs a fresh approach and fresh collaborators. She should give Frank Ocean a try. I note that he's currently in the studio with Alicia Keys. She should also try Bangladesh if she's looking for a banger. What about Missy? She needs something fresh. I shouldn't judge the music before I hear it, but she's been leaving her fans down with music for quite a while now, so it's hard to be optimistic.

Desiree (36,528) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
You've been banging on about how you prefer Whitney in recent weeks, which is cool, because that's your opinion. Yet you place her at number 1, and put Mariah at 12. This may have lead people to jump to the conclusion that they arrived at. If it was not a list which ranked your favourite singers, then may I suggest you don't number it next time you choose to draw up such a list. Numbering lists usually equates to ranking items in order of importance, or as in this case, preference. I don't think your opinions are too outspoken for this board, I just think they are ill thought through, badly worded and clearly fail to represent the purpose for which they were intended. Don't shoot me for this response, it's just an opinion.

I wouldn't go on the messageboard of my twelfth favourite female artist. Perhaps this isn't the right forum for you. Just saying.

I was thinking the same thing. I've been wanting Mariah to do a jazz album for years.

BMI Icon Award (36,310) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
Congratulations to Mariah for winning to BMI Icon Award. It's more than deserved. Mariah should take note of the songs the artists performing sang for her, as they show the type of music people resonate with. It's a massive honour to have Karen, Fantasia etc sing her songs for her. I can't wait to hear them.

Nattalie (36,295) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
I would love for Mariah to try make an album purely for artistic reasons, rather than for a commercially viable hit. Either is fine if I'm honest, just as long as the material is on point. Maxwell is amazing, and a duet of Cold, Love You, Fistful of Tears, or pretty much anything in his back catalog would work. I agree re John Legend. His debut album was banging. Don't know what happened thereafter.

NFL performance (36,294) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
Triumphant was a joke. The live performance showed why Mariah shouldn't release such tripe. She couldn't perform most of the song because she barely appears in it and the chorus is just not up to it. The song can't be performed live. Mariah should have forgotten about that song from weeks ago. Put it to bed, and never let it be heard in a live setting again. She's lost touch musically, is out of touch with her fans, and needs to get a firm grip of reality. What people want isn't miraculous. It should be easy for someone of Mariah's vocal ability. Her voice can find melody in mumbling someone's name for goodness sake. All she needs is a simple song, well written, where she sings her arse off. She needs to go back to the drawing board. Her older material worked very well. She sang WBT amazingly well. The voice is clearly still there. She just needs to refocus or ultimately, not bother making music for a while. I don't want to hear any more of this kind of crap.

Duet/Nattalie (36,252) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
Maxwell is one of my favourite artists. It would be amazing for her and Mariah to work together. The idea of them doing a cover together is awesome. I'd like them to cover something unexpected, like a ballad/mellow version of Edge of Seventeen by Stevie Nicks. It's cool to see someone else shares my views on duets.

Special K (36,251) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
I know, after all these years it's great to finally put that fine face of yours to the messages Heartbreaker remix would be amazing btw. I love Missy and really want Mariah to work with her again. I asked Mariah to sing the I Still Believe remix on twitter. Bring Da Brat out too lol.

I'd love Mariah to work with Maxwell, Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder and Missy again.

Special K (36,212) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
I suspect Mariah will do a Triumphant medley, followed by something old school, to hopefully set the tone of her new album. I'd love for her to throw a curve ball and perform Vision of Love, which she hasn't performed for a while, as far as I can remember.

Triumphant video (36,062) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
I just saw the video. Mariah looks hot. The video is ok. Looks a bit cheap at times, but at least the theme fits the song. It won't be enough to change my opinion of the song. It's not an overly visual video. It's quite simple and is more or doesn't really offer much in terms of diversity of subject matter. Like the song, the video isn't really fitting of a comeback single.

March 2013 (36,045) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
I'll gladly wait until March 2013 to hear new music from Mariah if it means we don't get another single like Triumphant. I suspect Mariah knows she needs to go back to the drawing board and branch out with producers, writers etc. Kind of like when TEOM was pushed back so she could work with JD. However, this time its for the opposite reason. I think JD and Mariah have gone flat, and Triumphant is the latest in a long line of examples of this. Mariah seriously needs to get with the program. I know TEOM had JD written all over it and it was a great album, but some of the standout tracks were produced by Kanye, Big Jim etc, and not JD. Mariah needs to get someone fresh to work with. Working with Q Tip is a step in the right direction. I love old school rnb and hip hop, so I'm glad Mariah is going in that direction. I just hope its more akin to Butterfly/Daydream than anything we've received in recent years.

Collabs (36,028) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
I think the idea of Mariah collaborating with Miguel and Frank Ocean is a great one. I really like both artists and think a songwriting collab would be amazing, particularly with Frank. A vocal and songwriting collab with Miguel would work too. Adorn is a jam.
