Carla I went back and read some of your posts to get an idea of what a "real fan" acts like because I keep an open mind and can entertain the thought that maybe I am being too harsh. Reading your posts seriously drained me. Almost all of your posts are putting someone down. You say American fans have abandoned Mariah, and maybe a lot of us have, but some of us are still here. If we didn't care about Mariah we wouldn't waste our time coming on here to read and post. You tell us to support her and promote her - I'll speak for myself but I did buy her album, I've bought some of her albums several times over the years, I buy pretty much every other item she puts out if I can afford to, and I don't do this for any other artist. I always talk about her music to my friends and family and post her videos on social media. I'm on vacation right now but normally I don't have time to go on every article to fight the trolls, I'm not 13. I don't know how else I can support her. To some of us coming on here is like fantasy football. We discuss her career and everything she does and discuss what we like or what we would have done differently. It's human nature to critique. She's been in the public eye for 24 years and I'm sure she knows how it works. I highly doubt the reason she's not promoting is because of us. She probably just wants to be with her kids. I haven't seen anybody on here calling her a dog and what I've read on here has been constructive. Discussion boards are a place to discuss, not all comments can be rainbows, that's boring. I like coming here to connect with other people who love Mariah and follow her career and to pretend I'm part of her team. I know what I say doesn't matter but who cares? If you don't like what's being said, change the conversation. Set the example of how you think fan posts should read.

They could use special effects to make just the dress look like a cartoon. Like to make it sparkle and move, but then the nightclub and her are real. I envision the part on top of the piano as a separate scene that it cuts away to. But maybe she could move around on it too during the performance in the club. Like in The Fabulous Baker Boys. That's why I said more support, so she can move around comfortably. No matter what she wears, one can tell she has huge boobs.

Album art (45,550)
by Dove from USA

I feel badly about what I said about the album art. If I met her in real life I wouldn't tell her to her face that I didn't love it. I am happy and thankful to have a new album and the music inside I do love. I guess I just meant that the album art is not horrible but it could have easily been better. When I see her on T.V. she looks radiant and happy and I like looking at her. The person on these covers is almost unrecognizable to me, they don't capture her essence and look more like paintings. The Japanese version was the best but even that one looked too much like the Charmbracelet cover. The full body one is my second favorite because it's different. They're not bad. I guess I just like her candid shots better.

Orkun and Mimi L (45,541)

Orkun, don't worry about it and thank you. Sometimes I do feel badly for saying negative things about her, because I love her and I'm not trying to tear her down, but this is a discussion board after all. I know what you mean about the real her shining through when she's talking about her babies. That's the Mariah I miss too. I know she doesn't put herself out there for her own protection but I miss her. Mimi L, I like what you said about the little dancing part. At first I didn't because I was thinking of the dress she wore last year on GMA when she sang Always Be My Baby. The pink sparkly one that bust open. Most of the time I don't like the way those dresses look on her. They make it look like she doesn't have a waist. But the dress she wore around the same time when she sang Looking In looked a lot better. Maybe it's just the fabric. If the dress was more like that shape, maybe with a slit up the leg? I also think of Cameron Diaz's little sing and dance number in The Mask. I think MC was going for a 1988 theme with this album, though. I don't remember what the styles were then.

Thirsty single (45,533)
by Dove from USA
| |

She should still make a video and release it as a single. It sounds better than that other song. I remember when Beyonce released Halo and it sounded like Kelly Clarkson's Already Gone. Kelly released it anyway and at the concerts she would make fun of the comparisons by singing a few lines of Halo and saying it was a great song.

I liked KP after I watched her movie the first time, because she seemed like a sweet person just doing her own thing, but then when I heard she wanted to mock her in her video it left a bad taste in my mouth. This morning I tried to watch that movie again and everything she did got on my nerves. That line posted down there is an obvious rip off. It makes me sad, why is everyone out to get Mariah?

The ideas I have for Money are too cheesy and cliché, I'm trying to come up with a better one. I like your classic black and white idea for MILG. When I hear that song I think of her on top of a piano like when she did YM(E). But I didn't like the dress she wore, I'm thinking a dress with more support. And the piano can spin like the spinning bed in Breakdown. Some parts can be of her in black and white with the old school microphone, like the picture that used to be on her website. I'm thinking about I Still Believe when she had the old school look. When she's on the piano it would be shooting her from the top, so it would mostly be the drama of her face that stands out. So when she sings, "Fantasize about the way you lick your lips etc." She would be looking up blissfully/lustfully thinking about her lover. Not directly at the camera. And without the slow motion that's later sped up effect. It looks weird.

Thoughts (45,523)
by Dove from USA

|

I like reading everyone's posts unless they're plain mean, constructive criticism is fine. Honestly, I just want one more hugely commercially successful era and I can die happy. I remember in 2005 even my then 13 year old cousins were into Mariah, one even stole all of my Mariah CDs. MC was already 35 then. Mariah still looks good. She can still make videos. There was a time when people of all ages listened to Mariah, she was the Adele of that time. I'm 31 and when I think of my peers, a lot of them don't have cable. Pretty much everyone streams through Netflix and Amazon Prime. Maybe she should do a film with music videos for all of her songs, or a documentary, and have them on Netflix. Katy Perry did this and it was a genius idea. She just needs to make sure she's presented in a positive light and that she looks the best she can. I watched Katy's movie and it made me like her, I even bought all three of her albums right afterwards, they were $5.00 each on Amazon. Almost all of Mariahs albums are $0.00 to stream on Amazon Prime and $5-$7 to buy except the new ones. The album is good enough to be wildly successful. I think when people see the album cover they're turned off because she looks worn out on one cover and like she's anorexic and being crucified on the other. The album covers are not very creative. Then they have an explicit label which would make one who doesn't know that it's full of the F-bomb and sexually explicit content. A lot of people don't care about that but a lot of people do. Then the videos, I liked them but a lot of people didn't. On FB when #Beautiful came out, people (friends and family) were saying she was trying too hard to stay young and sexy. I think it was the slow motion and faces when she's on the bike more than anything. I think the clothes were fine and the part where she's dancing is cute. Then YM(E) people didn't like that she was holding her boobs. I liked it, I thought it represented her being vulnerable and naked. I'm not trying to be mean. Just using this as a focus group in case her people do read what we write on these forums. Maybe she can have a Storyteller's type of Unplugged show and put that on Netflix. But only if she sounds good because otherwise people won't watch it. She sounded good on her Christmas special so I know she can still sound good. It has to be something people can and are able to watch over and over.

Sequencing (45,512)
by Dove from USA
| |
|
|
The sequencing does tell a story. But if it's from where MOIA left off, then it means these love songs are all about Nick. Like they're going back and forth in their relationship, then she gives him One Last Try to love her, and then puts it in God's hands. Thanks for the MV compliment. Ever since I was little I would make up videos for her songs. It helps me connect to the songs more. Orkum, I could've sworn I read "she should apologize", my mistake.

Mariah is an artist and not everyone is going to appreciate her art, single selections, music choices, outfit choices, etc. But she is being true to herself and maybe to her, taking those chances is worth more than commercial success. Especially because she's already had it. The singles she choose may have been the way she wanted to present herself to the world at that moment. Honestly, I don't think it matters that much, what matters most is marketing. The best example I can think of is Britney Spears, she is awkward and can't sing. Her songs are horrible but still managed to be hits. Even I'll listen to them now, just for the nostalgia. I don't apologize to anyone for my mistakes unless my mistakes hurt someone. I don't expect her to apologize for being her. A lot of us don't care if she can't hit the notes live, we just want to see her. If we want perfect notes we'll just listen to the albums on repeat.

One More Try (45,503)
by Dove from USA
| |
|
|
I read an interview with Walter Afanasieff where he talked about they were writing the Music Box album. He said she was really inspired by George Michael's Faith album and one song in particular, which may have been this song. The heartbeat makes me think of when you're in your bathtub and can hear your own heartbeat, it gives me the feeling of being alone and vulnerable. "Hold you, touch you, think that you're mine" makes me think she's afraid of letting herself fall in love because she was burned before. But then the next song is hopeful. Did she really say these were sequenced to show where she's at since last time we heard her?

Celebrities praise Mariah Carey: part 4 (45,489)
by Dove from USA
| |
|
|
I found this fanmade video on YouTube. Even though I know Mariah is one of the best selling artists of all time, sometimes I forget and I feel like I'm the only one, so when I hear other people are just as in love with her it makes me really happy. I especially related to the Mary J Blige part at about 7:13. When I was little Mariah gave me hope when it felt like I had nothing to live for too and I also felt like she was an angel. I want for her to keep burning her light and not fade away. I hope they do have a 25 anniversary concert to honor her next year featuring celebrities who love her as much as we do.

Dissing and politeness (45,454)
by Dove from USA
| |
|
|
I was thinking about politeness, and how I've said I want Mariah to be polite and not diss her contemporaries. Well I was thinking about it more, and for some reason I don't mind when Lorde does it, and she's dissed everyone. I think it's because when she does it, she states facts and she's right most of the time. And she doesnt try to be perfect and sparkly all the time. But for example, when I read Katy Perry was planning to mock Mariah by hiring a drag queen, that really bothered me. Because Katy Perry wishes she had the talent and longevity that Mariah's had. She's always showing off her body and trying to be perfect too, so how is she different? Mariah has given us her freaking life for the last 24 years and deserves respect. If she wants to get her freak on and wear a white gown to the park that's her prerogative. She's earned that right. I think it's different when we as fans say something on a discussion board because we're not publicly ridiculing her to our followers while being just as "ridiculous". Of course I wish Mariah was a fashion icon and I'll always wish that. But at the same time I respect that she doesn't care what we want and stays true to herself. I think ridiculing her or making fun of her crosses the line and is disrespectful. But I don't think aanyone here does that. Not that anyone has to "earn" the right to go to the park in a fancy gown, I just meant she has the right to not be made fun of by celebrities and the media for her eccentricities.

What she wears doesn't bother me, I just like seeing her in flattering clothes appropriate to the occasion. At this point I've already accepted she's going to wear whatever she wants whenever she wants so I'm letting it go. Just because we make comments doesn't mean we don't like her or we're going to stop buying her music. It's just something to talk about.

Record deal (45,431)
by Dove from USA
| |
|
|
Triumphant Get 'Em was pretty horrible but I think that's because she was hardly in it. The parts she sang were good. I really like Glitter and MIAM. I like all her albums and my favorites have changed depending on where I'm at in my life. She can still get input. I just think that she should be calling all the shots now. I don't know how the music industry works, or if she needs one for promotion. But the way I see it her record company barely promoted her last two albums anyway. It seems like they don't really care about her. I think she's the only one who truly cares and I think it's worth it to just go for it and try it. If she fails miserably she'll learn from her mistakes and grow stronger, and keep going, or if she decided she likes the record company better she can always go back. She should just relax and do it for fun now. She's been working pretty much her whole life. This is an honest question: What does the record company provide for her that she can't get on her own?

Stylist / photographer (45,417)
by Dove from USA

With all that money I don't understand why she doesn't hire a good stylist (who knows what he's doing) full time. And a photographer for that matter, someone she trusts who won't release bad photos to the public or Photoshop her to the point of looking like a wax statue. It would be Christmas for me if she released another EP.

That photographer seems like a creep. I was reading some of the aspiring models stories that have come out about him and they made me feel so sad and disgusted. I hope she never works with him again. He probably had something to do with the release of these pictures to expose and humiliate her but she doesn't even look that bad. Clearly the poses suck. But other than being a little too orange - she looks better in the originals. I screen shot the one where she's biting the necklace and lowered the saturation and it was fine. The one where she's holding the champagne glass - her pose was weird and she can't help that. I liked that her tiny bit of cellulite on her thigh showed. It's endearing and makes her look like a real person. The one with the kids, the only thing is her stomach and even that is not that horrible. Either wear a longer shirt or have them touch up the imperfections on it one by one so that it doesn't look too smooth and fake/waxy. That guy probably still gets work because he gets young models to have sex with his friends and people who hire him. When I said her stomach is the only thing I would change I meant in the picture where she's with the photographer and he has his thumbs up, not the one with the kids. And I wouldn't change the shape, just go in and smooth out the tiny stretch marks. I hope I'm not offending anybody, I'm just saying my opinion. For the record, I'm a mom too and my stretch marks are worse than hers so I'm not hating. I just want her to look her best without going overboard and looking like a completely different person.

Album experience (45,383)
by Dove from USA
| |
|
|
B I like your idea for the Faded video. It made me think of Bye Bye where she's laying on the yellow couch so I went to watch it. The whole 2005-2006 Emancipation era was pretty magical, right up there with the Daydream era. Even though I accept they're not promoting MIAM, it does make me sad because good videos, performances, interviews, photos, album art, etc. are part of the album experience that we remember. Those things become part of us just like the songs do. I don't want to be selfish and demand more, I'm thankful she gave us an amazingly beautiful album. But I do wish we had more. No matter what I'll always be a fan.
