About Lexingz from Estonia: Mariah fan since 1998.

Re: Classic Mariah (84,545) (84,557) by Lexingz from Estonia
This is exactly what I want - an album which is predominantly produced like the examples you gave (all of them great songs). True jazz is something a little bit different. I don't need her to go there, there is no reason.

Re: Classic Mariah (84,527) (84,534) by Lexingz from Estonia
I agree May. Doing something with jazz and live band arrangements would be awesome for her career and image right now. And might be that this kind of thing would even sell way more than the music she is doing right now. I am not even talking about doing covers. I wish for her own songs and then maybe a couple new songs in that vein. This would restore her credibility as a musician tenfold.

M should work with Solange (84,495) by Lexingz from Estonia
You know what? I think MC should look into working, writing, dueting with Solange. She is super talented and their voices and sensibilities should mesh brilliantly. Also, she is one of the most "current" and "cool" female singer/songwriters around right now. And Solange is one of the artists who has great artistic vision and clarity about what she portrays. Just check out her songs like "Cranes" or "Don't touch my hair". I don't want Mariah to work with Beyonce, I prefer Solange because I find her way more interesting artistically and even vocally than Bey (who is powerhouse performer and great singer but whose studio albums I find boring and unlistenable).

90s Mariah if you were talking to me then yes, basically that's what I mean.

Re: Maybe it's time to pass the pen (84,471) (84,483) by Lexingz from Estonia
Very interesting point. In my dreams Mariah is one of those artists like David Bowie (or even Cher or Tina Turner) who keeps moving with the times and releasing new and fresh material in their own signature style into old age. Bowie released some of his best material at age 50 and way beyond - he is also one of those great singers whose voice changed dramatically over the years. Fingers crossed, excited and all that.

Re: Messages here (84,479) (84,482) by Lexingz from Estonia
You know what? To me it isn't even about being a whore or not. I don't care. Rihanna and J.Lo dress buttnaked all the time and that's fine by me, they pull it off and it looks like an artistic statement. The thing is that Mariah's "whore" looks were never very well executed and they just fell flat for the lack of context and vision.

Mariah used to be next to naked in many videos, like Honey, The Roof, Crybaby, Breakdown and so many others. And wearing swimsuits and bra tops and booty shorts during Glitter and videos like "Loving You Long Time" or "Touch my Body". Nobody called her a whore then, because they were obviously just fun, well thought through stage costumes. All of those looks were done with style and taste.

It's not about being naked. It's about lacking style and artistic direction and vision of what the hell the artist is trying to portray. It becomes a problem when the visuals start taking away from the music, which has happened repeatedly for the last couple of years.

Re: JLo at AMAs: shoes (84,423) (84,436) by Lexingz from Estonia
I couldn't agree more about the shoes. It is hard to watch someone you love teetering on shoes that are impossible to walk in. It makes her whole stage presence way more awkward than it needs to be. Please ditch the platforms Mariah, you might think they make you look taller and slimmer but all I see is someone always afraid of falling over. And I don't want you to fall over. Please bring back the amazing, classy, flattering shoes. (For example something like in the Honey or Sweetheart video or 1999 Billboard music awards.)

Re: Give it a rest (84,425) (84,435) by Lexingz from Estonia
I think her first alcohol reference was in The Roof (Moet) which is one of her most praised songs.

Re: The Guardian article (84,420) (84,421) by Lexingz from Estonia
Good one Joachim. I find the whole stanning and mocking thing goes for female artists in general though. If you are a female doing anything, you are praised as long as you meet the standards. Stop doing that and you will be basically annihilated. This is what society in general is like to female leaders in any walk of life, it would be a bit unfair to put it all on the gay fans. The article was a very enjoyable read, thank you.

Re: With You "I Don't" (84,367) (84,374) by Lexingz from Estonia
Yep I thought I Don't was a good one, music-wise and vocally. The video ruined it. She looked young and pretty but the styling was wayyyy too trashy.

With You on repeat (84,310) by Lexingz from Estonia
Ok just listened to the song on repeat for 2 hours now I'll take a nap. How about you?

With You is catchy (84,297) by Lexingz from Estonia
I like the song very much. It has very memorable melody bits in it and the overall production is very good. She has made the best of her current voice. I genuinely like the song exactly as much as I hoped. Happy and satisfied fan here.

Re: With You (84,233) (84,236) by Lexingz from Estonia
Shezz I agree completely. I snickered when I realized that earlier (the Tanaka thing) but there is something to the "balls to the wall", childish sincerity. I am going to accept and love her for it.

Re: With You snippet (84,216) (84,224) by Lexingz from Estonia
I feel like this is the first time I am actually very much looking forward to a new song from Mariah since Glitter (which is an album I love btw). What a weird realization for someone who has been a fan for 20 years.

Re: With You snippet (84,207) (84,209) (84,222) by Lexingz from Estonia
At least it sounds like something she might pull off nicely when she performs live. It sounds pleasant enough.

Re: Big Jim Wright (84,154) (84,191) by Lexingz from Estonia
He will be missed. One of the greatest people to lend her talents to Mariah's music and legacy. I hope his family knows how many people deeply appreciate his work and contributions and how much joy his efforts and talent has brought to so many people.

Re: (84,171) (84,190) by Lexingz from Estonia
I really hope she does perform this season. Especially because her voice seems to be entering a good phase again. Fingers crossed.

With You black and white promo pic (84,188) by Lexingz from Estonia
Who else absolutely loves the promo pic that was posted on Mariah's instagram for With You? She looks freaking gorgeous. I have always loved the left side of her face (the shape of it and the mole). It is in my opinion one of her best features and I hate that she has been made to feel insecure about it. I have also thought she looks breathtaking in all of her black/white videos and photos (for example videos for My All, Anytime You Need a Friend and ABMB remix and photos - her #1s cover). I am happy.

Re: With (83,993) (83,999) by Lexingz from Estonia
I agree wholeheartedly. I for one was very grateful for the chance to see her put on a decent performance on iHeart. I wish I had not taken for granted the quality of her performances when her voice starting to slip in the early 00s but was still pretty great. I wish I had been more grateful for the voice she still had then. Perspective.

Re: Vocal analysis (83,996) (83,998) by Lexingz from Estonia
The emphasis is on "crazy" melismas (like VOL). I get your point though, I was thinking about it after I wrote the comment.
(Tuesday 25 September 2018; 09:44)
Re: Vocal analysis (83,989) (83,990) by Lexingz from Estonia
Great ear. I never thought about her melismas that way. I took them for granted, I guess. I was always more mesmerized by the overall richness and tenderness and lightness and emotion in her voice because the ability of achieving all those things together at the same time is what set her apart in the first place. Her biggest hit worldwide until this day is "Without You" and she used neither crazy melismas or whistle notes to sing it. Many many pop singers can do amazing melismas nowadays because they practiced them listening to Mariah since they were children.

She still has a lot to work with. GTFO was a good song because it makes use of the voice and the control that is still there. I just want her to work with what she has and stop straining.

Re: iHeart set (83,968) (83,979) by Lexingz from Estonia
I feel it was a solid set. She is obviously not fully back to her confidence yet but she will get there. I was very pleasantly surprised by the condition of her voice overall. It sounds like whatever she has been doing to her voice, it works. The styling was good (the only thing I wished for her was more comfortable shoes to walk in), the make-up and hair were perfect. I loved seeing her with the old back-up singers. The choreography was great and didn't overpower her. Nobody goes to a Mariah gig for the dancers. I am glad someone finally realized that. They are there for her voice, talent and spirit. Let's be real. Her voice is still there. It might be damaged, but it is still there.

Re: "Without You" the live version (83,969) (83,978) by Lexingz from Estonia
I completely agree. I never listen to the studio version. The live version is the first song I heard from Mariah (I am European so this was her first big hit here). This was the first ever song I remember being completely transfixed by. I was watching TV in 1994 and the song came on and I was being called to do some chores or something but I just could not leave the TV room until the song was over. I had never had such a reaction to any singer. The song came on 10 years ago on the radio (studio version) and I remember my mother asking - "Is this Mariah? Doesn't sound much like her."
