About Badr from USA: Became a fan in 1995.

TAOLG advocate (39,729) by Badr from USA
"WBT part 20"? It sounds nothing like "We Belong Together" or anything she's ever done. It actually reminds me of "Vision of Love", and I think this is how she had wanted it to sound. Back to TAOLG, I have absolutely no objection. I don't understand why some people complain about the "lack" of a "hook". She's experimenting with the structure of her songs, trying it to make it more poetic and leaving behind the typical form of popular songs.

The Art of Letting Go (39,720) by Badr from USA
Astonishing new song. Great vocals, powerful and insighful lyrics, first-class production. This is the type of music I expect from MC.

Favourite albums (39,056) by Badr from USA
My favorite albums from the 90s are Daydream and Butterfly. I can't decide which one I like the most. From the 2000s, I must say The Emancipation Of Mimi was superior. E=MC2 and MOAIA have great songs ("Migrate", "Side Effects", "Bye Bye", "H.A.T.E.U", "Obsessed", and a few others). Unfortunately, I feel they're both weak compared to Mariah's previous work. I think her priorities changed. Rainbow showed a different side of Mariah's personality. With Memoirs, I found myself skipping songs, something unusual.

J. Lopez back in American Idol does not prove MC didn't get along with the producers, it means Mariah has better things do to.

You do pay attention to her lyrics, don't you? You also seem to believe everything she writes is literal.

Re: Jaker20 (38,725) by Badr from USA
I applaud constructive criticism, and I'm sure Mariah herself does too. I believe it helps people grow, evolve, and improve. However, some people take it too far, and turned this site into a public Mariah Carey bashing site. I remember someone asking if "Mariah's rhinoplasties affected the quality of her voice". Someone else claimed that "the excessive drinking, the parties, they all contributed to the decline of her voice". I also read a post claiming that she was old, and that was the reason for her "declined" ability to sing live. I didn't know so many intimate friends of her post here. In regards to her voice, I've seen her perform live 4 times, including one in 2010. I noticed her voice is still strong and versatile. Mariah will not always sound perfect, but eventually she shuts haters up with astonishing performances.

Mariah's videos (38,642) by Badr from USA
I agree with some people here. Mariah has made many stunning videos: Honey, Heartbreaker, Through The Rain, It's Like That, The Roof, Butterfly, Fantasy, Vision Of Love, Sweetheart, Say Somethin', Obsessed, Touch My Body, Shake It Off, etc. In regards to Nick directing her videos, I've always thought he shouldn't mess with her career. I think he has also become some sort of unofficial spokesperson. Well, back to the videos, the "I Stay In Love" video is awful. To be fair, I recognize he did a really good job with "Angels Cry", and "Triumphant" wasn't bad either. In my opinion, the worst videos she's done are "Someday", "Can't Let Go", "I'll Be Lovin' you", "I Want To Know What Love Is" and "H.A.T.E.U." I've come to enjoy the simplicity of "#Beautiful", and it's become one of my favorite ones, despite my initial reaction. I hope she gets better soon. Her hard work has paid off as "#Beautiful" might be certified platinum in the US very soon.

#Beautiful remixes (38,550) by Badr from USA
First of all, I really think parts of the song were sung live during the BET Awards. I really think people are too harsh, and they forget Mariah is a human being trying to balance family and work. I admire her ability to stay relevant after 23 years; I haven't heard a Mariah song on the radio so many times since "Obsessed". I also really liked the hip-hop remix, and the Spanglish version is growing on me. I just need to comment that "culo" might be a little too strong for native Spanish speakers. I hope these remixes and the TV appearances push the song to the top 10. This song is so great, it deserves to shine.

Re: Brad / #Beautiful remix (38,401) by Badr from USA
I will start by saying the "remix" released today is #awful. It completely ruined the song. It's so predictable and lame. That being said, Brad's comments, "People are no longer interested in her singing or music," are pointless. Whereas some people like it or not, #Beautiful is a worldwide smash hit. I don't know why you say that. You also say that "her music career is pretty much over," says who?

Re Meriweatherc86, negativity, #Beautiful (38,339) by Badr from USA
Although the people commenting on this board may not be marketing executives, I believe they are entitled to have an opinion and comment on Mariah's management decisions. Their opinions are worthy, and perhaps the label's executives should be paying attention because, at the end of the day, they are the ones who buy the product. Yes, Mariah has been in the business for 23 years, but I'm sure we can all agree that, with her last 2 projects, a lot of bad decisions have been made. Having said that, I do applaud Meriweatherc86 because sometimes there is a lot of negativity in this board. News flash: Mariah isn't perfect and cannot make everybody happy. It's great being critical, but let's not forget this is a Mariah Carey fan site. In regards to #Beautiful's performance, I hope Mariah is preparing something, because it would be a shame this song gets wasted. It deserves to be at least in the top 10. It's not because I am a fan, but #Beautiful is a great pop/r&b song that contrasts with the tons and tons of shit I find on the radio nowadays.

Album covers (38,176) by Badr from USA
For the most part, I've always liked Mariah's albums covers. I remember thinking how mysterious she looked on the Daydream cover and sexy on Butterfly and #1's. Rainbow, to me, reflected Mariah's fun side, whereas I enjoyed the simplicity of Charmbracelet. The artwork of TEOM simply surpassed my expectations, and E=MC2 was a vintage version of it. The only cover that seemed, in my opinion, amateurish is MOAIA. The shadows always bothered me, and I gotta say the title is a bit lame and corny, too. I have no problem with Memoirs, but the " Imperfect Angel" part...

New album and #Beautiful (38,091) by Badr from USA
I wonder why there is still no news about her new album. Wasn't it supposed to be released in July? It's basically June, and we still don't have major information, title, cover, etc. I haven't seen her so focused on one project since The Emancipation of Mimi. I hope the new album meets our high expectations, just like #Beautiful did. In regards to the single, someone here suggested she should be calling radio stations to promote it. I think that's a good idea. The promotion is starting to slow down, and the song can easily become a top 10 hit; releasing an alternative version of #Beautiful was such a good idea. I personally enjoy both versions. I'd like to hear a solo version so she can perform it more often. It's been a while since I've heard a Mariah Carey song on the radio, and listening to #Beautiful in my local radio station is both refreshing and exciting.

Re: Jaker (38,066) by Badr from USA
What's wrong with performing hits from the past? It's not like that's all she's been doing. Her last two studio albums, E=MC2 and MOAIA, both generated smash hits, "Touch My Body", "Obsessed" (within the US), and "IKTKWLI" (abroad). Plus, she performed a brand-new song, "#Beautiful", which we can consider a worldwide hit. I don't see the "has-been". She cannot perform new songs because her album isn't ready. I believe it's time to cut Mariah some slack. Many people go too far with critics, crossing the line. Let's try to see things objectively, that's all.

#Beautiful video on second thought (37,804) by Badr from USA
Perhaps I was a bit too harsh with my previous comment. There are a few shots that went a bit too far, in my opinion. My point is that Mariah is much more interesting than those so called pop stars who expose their body too much. That's why I was expecting more. To be fair, the theme is cool, and so are the locations. There are some nice shots and Mariah seems to be having fun. She surely looks awesome, too. I hope people focus on the positive aspects of this video.

#Beautiful video is not that #beautiful (37,775) by Badr from USA
One word to describe Mariah's new video: "Yikes". I wonder if this trashy video could become detrimental to the song's performance. I hope not.

Mariah's #Beautiful (37,724) by Badr from USA
I actually wasn't expecting a back-to-basics, yet edgy, retro, single. I believe the production is the best, for a Mariah Carey lead single, since "Honey". Of course, I want more Mariah, but Miguel's voice suits Mariah's so well that it makes me forget my little objection. Because of the apparent "simplicity" of the song, it reminds me of classics, such as "Always Be My Baby" and "Dreamlover". In my opinion, the song has a Daydream-esque vibe. On a personal level, I loved it, one of the best Mariah Carey songs I've heard in a long time. I really hope to see Mariah back on top of the charts. So far, the critics seem to love "#Beautiful", now it's up to us to make it a hit.

Mariah Carey's career in 2013 (37,392) by Badr from USA
We should be more concerned about the quality of her music. I'm, too, a bit disappointed that her last singles have performed poorly. I don't think MC actually thought "Triumphant" had the potential to be a hit. The song sounds too urban for the pop market. "Almost Home" does have that commercial potential but, for some reason, it doesn't seem to be taking off. "AH" seems to take little advantage of the Disney association, and IDJ is simply not interested in Mariah anymore. She urgently needs guidance, a new management team; Randy Jackson is much more concerned about Idol than anything else. MC's a talented artist, whereas she wears the singer, songwriter, or record producer hat, and there's still interest in the media. I hope she comes back more mature to contrast with the legion of trashy, bubble-gum, idiotic music acts that dominate the charts nowadays. I would find it a bit depressing to see a 40+ year-old singing nonsense tunes that aim to attract teenagers or people with bad taste. Mariah is focused on her music. I noticed she lost interest during the E=MC2/Memoirs eras. As for AI, I wish she uses it as a platform to promote her music and leaves that sinking-boat soon. I can't discuss her performance on the show, because I don't watch it. On the same note, the feud, whether real or staged, might be detrimental for her image. I'm not the hardcore fan I used to be, but I must admit I enjoyed "Triumphant" and "Almost Home" and look forward to listening to her new music.

New music, there's still hope (36,557) by Badr from USA
Mariah and The Dream did create some great songs: "H.A.T.E.U" and "Touch My Body". That being said, I'm not excited about Mariah collaborating with The Dream for one simple reason: he's not an authentic musician. He's just, in my humble opinion, one of those people who creates a catchy loop in a mac and then calls himself a musician. Also, I think there'a major problem with Mariah since TEOM: poor management. I don't think IDJ knows how to manage Mariah's career. They just make too many dumb decisions. This is also a tough climate for a real artist to release any music. I listen to the radio nowadays, and 99% is disgusting, which makes me think if that's a requirement to succeed in today's industry. I know I'm still a fan because I bought Daydream and Rainbow all over again, because the old records have worn out.

Your comment, "if it wasn't for her, there wouldn't be a Mariah Carey", completely overlooks the legacy of artists like Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder, true R&B legends whose careers have lasted decades.

"My" first vision (36,197) by Badr from USA
I remember hearing about Mariah Carey, but I wasn't really exposed to her music until 1995. I heard "One Sweet Day" on the radio and saw her "El Amor Que Sone" video on Mexican TV. I was shocked when I realized it was the same person. "One Sweet Day" redefined my concept of good music. I had recorded the song straight from the radio. I loved her dynamic and expressive voice, moving lyrics, and soulful sound so much that I asked my brother to buy the Daydream cassette for me on his way to work. There had never been an album that got me the same way Daydream did. I listened to it literally hundreds of times. I found out Mariah Carey was responsible for another hot track I loved called “Someday”. Still, I didn’t consider myself a “hardcore fan” until “Honey” and Butterfly came out. After listening to Butterfly, I bought the Daydream CD and continued discovering her superb catalogue. Like many people in this board, I do not always agree with her decision-making but, in retrospective, Mariah has created part of the “soundtrack” to my life. Therefore, I am still a loyal fan.

Triumphant (36,065) by Badr from USA
I am actually enjoying the song, and for those who keep complaining, "Triumphant" is much better than most tracks being overplayed by radio nowadays. The video is cool, too. Obviously, Mariah is confident enough to let others "do the punches"
