More thoughts about the album covers (109,981)
by Dove from United States
| |
|
|
Mimi L, I was thinking about your comments about the covers (mostly because you're the one who had the most thoughts about them). It's funny to me how your opinions are so opposite to mine. (Not saying my opinions are right or better, just interesting how people can view things so differently.)
I actually really like the black leather looking outfit because it looks good on her and sorta looks like a superhero costume. I like all the diamonds because it makes me think, "She earned those diamonds." Celebrities are American royalty and not everyone can pull off wearing a huge diamond necklace. It suits who she is. Also, most people borrow jewelry for photo shoots but she actually owns those.
I get what you're saying about the power stance (and I somewhat agree now after reading your comments), but she's already done that pose on a few album covers. The easy breezy one is different than all of her other album covers. The one with the all black background looks blurry and that's why I don't like that one. My problem with the power stance picture is that her face doesn't look like her face to me. But otherwise I wouldn't mind that being the album cover.

Album cover (109,956)
by Dove from United States
| |
|
|
I just got an email to preorder the new album and there's an alternate cover. I don't like it. She looks like a robot and her face looks weird. I like the original one much better. I would just pan it out a bit so that the top of her head and her waist showed. But her face looks more relaxed and pretty in the original. It looks easy breezy. Sorry to be negative.
Also, I'll probably buy the mp3 on Amazon but wait a year until I buy the physical CD because by then it'll probably have the max amount of tracks included. Unless Amazon still does AutoRip, then I'll just do that. I know they're available on Spotify but I like having them in my digital library in case they ever get removed. (Like the movie Glitter did. I should have bought a digital copy when it was available. )

Apparently, the cover Mariah will do of Paul McCartney’s song is "Live and Let Die". In several cities, ads featuring parts of song lyrics or the names of the tracks are being displayed.

Today on "my" station they were playing "Without you". It still amazes me, when I hear the first few seconds of the piano and then the magic happens. The radio-man said an absolute classic and wonderful version by Mariah. So true.

Mariah Carey announces new album "Here For It All" (109,879)
by Dove from United States
| |
|
|
I like the cover art because she looks genuinely happy. I know it's posed, but it doesn't look posed. My favorite style of pictures are the ones that look candid.
I love the title because I'm also here for it all. For me, that means I'm here for the whole spectrum of emotions we experience as humans. I hope the album has at least a few songs that make me feel something.
I'm reminded of a quote I heard in the documentary Long Promised Road (about Brian Wilson). It's a famous guy (I can't remember his name) describing Brian's music. He said something along the lines of, "The beauty of it carries with a sense of joyfulness even in the pain of living." That's exactly the way I feel about Mariah Carey's music. You guys I'm so excited and here for it.

Christmas in July (109,802)
by Dove from United States
| |
|
|
The MC Fortnight [sic] skins news got me thinking about the Christmas ornaments Mariah sold on HSN when she was pregnant. They were only $50 and you got 24 in a sturdy box. I looked up the segments on YouTube and I love Mariah when she was on HSN. She was so funny. That's the classic Mariah I feel like I know.
I love that she was super pregnant but was still out there living her best life like it's golden. I don't think she's as vain as people think. Otherwise she wouldn't have appeared on television super swollen and pregnant.
Last year I saw Martha Stewart and Snoop Dog Elf on the Shelf dolls at Walmart. The whole time I was thinking Mariah should make one too. But please for the love of God make her face pretty. A lot of the merch doesn't even look like her. The inflatable last year was cross-eyed.

I like Type Dangerous (The Remix of the Gods) because it felt nostalgic to listen to those voices again. I don't listen to a lot of rap music, but I remember in high school my cousin and best friend did. So I recognize those voices. I wish they would have included her second verse, though. It's a remix, who cares if it's a little long?

I don't think Mariah comes across well on T.V. appearances, though. (Except to the lambs.) Everyone asks her the same boring questions that we've all heard a hundred million times over the years. Or they're shady to her, like Oprah was when she interviewed her about her book when it was released. If the interviewer is shady to you, it kind of makes you look bad to the audience. IMO. Especially potential new fans who haven't heard of her. I do want to hear from her but from her own platform. Tell us what you want us to know. Make blogs for us, or vlogs.
I think a better marketing strategy would be to feature her songs on popular shows or movies. But good songs and on well written shows or movies. Mariah's songs speak for themselves. We've all experienced watching a movie or show and the song perfectly encapsulates the moment and you're bonded to that moment from then on. One example I can think of is the song Breathe Me by Sia, which was featured in the series finale of Six Feet Under.
Or have young beautiful people with storylines in her videos (with inserts of her singing in glamour poses if she wants). For example: Beauty School Dropout was supposed to be sung by Elvis so she could wear an Elvis-esque jumpsuit (like the one Britney Spears wore when she was promoting Live From Las Vegas) and recreate the video. Walking down the white stairs and there can be a beautiful young up-and-coming actress with pink hair paying Frenchie. I'm imagining the young Queen of Hearts actress from the Descendants movie.
I mean, not that exactly, but something like that.

Unpopular opinions (109,667)
by Dove from United States
| |
|
|
1.) Boy (I need you) has grown on me over the years. 2.) I'm not super optimistic about MC16 being a success. (But I'm pretty sure I'll personally enjoy it.) 3.) I think she should drop Hero and We Belong Together from performances like the Summertime Ball and instead do album tracks that should have been hits. 4.) I know Touch My Body is super popular but I don't really like it. My young coworker (born in '99) asked me to make her a MC playlist. A few months later she came back and reported she only liked Fantasy, Honey, and Touch my Body. 5.) I really like Did I Do That? I think it's catchy and kinda funny.

Regarding only songs or albums, what are some unpopular opinions you all got? "Hero" still hasn't grown on me yet. "Thank God I Found You" was not #1 worthy and based on how many song I listen to from each album, Caution is my least favorite.

Type: Dangerous | three hating ass heauxs - they don't know the meaning of water nor soap (109,630)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End

Well, at least one of just might be JL according to Wendy Williams.
The gist of it is that when JLo came to the radio station for an interview, her people had told Wendy's people that there was no direct eye contact allowed with Jennifer Lopez - which Wendy went right ahead and completely disregarded. (Echoes of Tommy Motorboater.)
The second point was that her people had asked for the bathroom to be cleared meaning nobody goes in and out as long as JLo was at the station. So Wendy had one of her interns guard the bathroom and actually stood on the toilet and would push the door shut (if anyone attempted to enter) until it was JLo's turn to actually use it. And after JLo used said bathroom, they discovered she hadn't washed your hands. I'm guessing probably both the water and soap were untouched meaning not a drop in the sink. Wendy reiterated that it was all true several times as the audience went off in disbelief. It happened probably two decades ago but Wendy first said it on her tv-show in 2011.
Ever since I randomly remembered this Wendy episode, my list of the 3 hating ass hoes referenced in T:D - that don't know the meaning of water nor soap - has dwindled down to:
1. JLo 2. Jenny, From The Block 3. Jennifer Lopez
These things make me happy. Idc.

Heavy songs (109,602)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
Jaker20, I think Portrait on Caution is heavy so she'll do at least one. Languishing from Memoirs is heavy. Most of yall hate it but Memoirs to me is the closest follow up to Butterfly. I remember Mariah saying in the promos for Glitter, I'll never abandon my ballads they are a part of me. We will get something heavy on the new album. Any word on an album title yet? Dangerous? No MJ did that. Overhead Lighting? Anniversaries? Hey, it's one word. Beauty School Drop Out? The Reinterpretation of Mimi? How about, The Mimi Theorem, a2 + b2 = c2? Maybe, Mariah Nunez? Me. I'm Still Mariah. The Songbird Supreme. Ok ok I'll stop,
