About David from Australia: Favourite Song: Butterfly

Favourite Album: Butterfly

CD:UK video (41,897) by David from Australia
The good thing about that video is that it once again emphasizes her view about what happened with Eminem, which is unfortunately still one of the main reasons the general public talk about her, rather than the music she makes. Plus, it also reiterates the fact that she writes her own songs, which she is extremely adamant about making known. Not sure how many people will see this video though, apart from the fans.

Edward from USA (41,665) by David from Australia
Edward from USA, you are hilarious. Whilst I don't mind Mariah's constant use of "dahling" and her obsession with lighting, your post gave me a good laugh. Although I do think she could focus on the question she's asked a little more rather than going off on a tangent so often. It makes for great entertainment though. She has such a fun personality.

Recording two possible covers? (40,635) by David from Australia
Not sure if this has been posted, but apparently Mariah is recording two covers. I wonder what they could be and if they will make the album.

No label (40,498) by David from Australia
I'm hoping she might go independent like Macklemore and have no label telling her what to do with her music. No one telling her the type of song she should record or release, or the type of song that they think fits an album. That way she'd be in control with no one telling her that a certain style or type of song doesn't suit her. Of course she would have people giving her advice, but she would be able to make the final decision.

When I Saw You (40,461) by David from Australia
Lazy vocals? Each to their own, but I find it amazing how she hardly takes a breath in the chorus and just sings line after line so effortlessly with barely a pause. Skill like that is what makes the song so amazing. Also, the way she drags out the "knew" at the end of the second verse and belts out the "know" at the end of the bridge before the final chorus; then she dives straight into that chorus and once again hardly takes a breath. Unmatchable. Some of her best vocal work ever right there.

Songs that didn't make it (40,413) by David from Australia
Everything Fades Away and Slipping Away are two of her most amazing songs ever. I also wish I Feel It had been chosen instead of To The Floor. That would've made TEOM a perfect album as the duet with Nelly is the only song I don't like from the album. But I read somewhere that I Feel It was initially going to replace Joy Ride and that would've been a real shame if I'd never heard that phenomenal song as it's my absolute favourite from the album. Therefore, I'm glad we got Joy Ride instead as it's far more superior, and we still managed to hear I Feel It in the end. I'm also glad Imperfect didn't make the cut on Memoirs as I dislike the auto tune. On another note, I hope that the future singles from this upcoming album have a few B-sides added as I'm sure she's written a countless number of songs over these last few years and some of them must be amazing and won't make the cut. I'm sure there's some other amazing songs hidden in the vault over the years that we'll never get to hear. Every time I think of Joy Ride almost not making the cut, I wonder how many other amazing songs we may have missed out on that weren't chosen in favour of other songs.

My thoughts on a few things: Triumphant, the new album (40,397) by David from Australia
I'm glad to see some love for Triumphant. I love that song, except the second verse, in which MC should perhaps have had her own verse. I love her hip/hop stuff, as well as her more soulful stuff and I hope the album has a good mix of both. Another thing: there is nothing wrong with Mariah taking her time to release this album and making it perfect. Beyonceé's album really was nothing special. I agree with Linda Collins that there isn't much good mainstream music today. Most songs are geared towards the clubs and the quality of lyrics is missing. I could write better songs. Therefore, I would hate it if MC went down that dance route. I'm glad she does her own thing and I hope chart success doesn't bother her anymore. She should strive for it, but the most important thing is that the music comes from the heart and is timeless as opposed to just getting a number one. She has constantly delivered great music and I'm sure the new album is going to be something amazing whenever it's released. Her current catalog alone is more than enough to keep me satisfied. She works like a machine so I think she's entitled to have some time off or take it slow this time around.

Beyonce (40,204) by David from Australia
That move was absolutely incredible. Granted, it's a great way to create awareness and talk about the album, therefore aiding in sales which I'm sure was why she did it, but regardless it was something different. It would be cool if Mariah did something different like that to create hype for the album and help sales, as opposed to waiting for a single to smash before releasing the album.

Tree lighting ceremony (40,086) by David from Australia
She looked really upset and based of her comment she knew she didn't perform as well as she could. I hope she doesn't go too hard on herself though. She's an amazing live performer, even to this day. Just look at the Rockefeller Center performances or Jimmy Fallon. Better than many so called "artists" these days. Every artist has their bad days. I hope this doesn't make her feel the need to lip sing more frequently, because the beauty of this performance was that she sang live and she tried. It was real. Honestly, I'd rather hear her sing live than lip sing to a song, even if she doesn't always nail it.

Higher notes (40,074) by David from Australia
I think the struggle in reaching high notes is the only real criticism I can find in regards to her current vocal abilities. Otherwise, her whistles, low notes and runs are almost flawless. I still don't think her current voice is better than the Rainbow era though. Also, on a random note, I'm curious whether anyone apart from me prefers her Charmbracelet vocals over post Emancipation era vocals? I especially loved the belting and whistles in that era, for example Subtle Invitation and Bringin' On The Heartbreak.

She sounded amazing at Rockefeller Center (40,066) by David from Australia
She sounded amazing at Rockefeller Center. Both performances were great, but Joy To The World was phenomenal. There were even times where her vocals sounded like the original recording in that song. She looked fabulous as always.

Lambs (39,694) by David from Australia
You don't need to be a "lamb" to be a fan. That's just what Mariah calls her fans. Heaps of other artists have names as well. I don't call myself a lamb either, just a Mariah Carey fan, but there are other people who like being called lambs. That's their choice. Each to their own. You certainly don't need to be called a lamb if you don't want to.

Emotions (39,508) by David from Australia
Out of all MC's albums, that took me the longest to appreciate. I realize the beauty of it now, though. Phenomenal.

New album (39,497) by David from Australia
I hope there are some powerful ballads on this album that may go down as classics for MC fans, something which Memoirs lacked for me. The songs are good, but there's not a single song I think is a classic on that album. I liked the fun stuff as well, but there was too much of it on Memoirs. I'd like a good mix of fun and serious songs like Charmbracelet or Emancipation. I also hope she keeps that ghetto talk she's been using constantly throughout the last two albums to a minimum and uses correct wording and sentence structure in lyrics. I know I'll love the album either way and so far everything sounds promising. I'm excited to hear the new single.
