About Carlos Jaramillo from USA: I grew up in a home where everything was the work of the devil, in their opinion. It was almost worse than being Amish. I was Jehova's witness.. The only thing I was ever allowed to listen to was Mariah Carey, as back then, she was very "seemingly" clean and pure, covered in clothing from head to toe, we now know, instructed by her label.. She has been with me my whole life.. its weird.. its like she's my best friend but, doesnt really know it.. lol

First time ever (best day of my life) (42,339) by Carlos Jaramillo from USA
I was 13 years old and was at my aunts house with my Jehovah's witness family for dinner. We weren't really allowed to be very exuberant or expressive but, being the young, brewing gay boy that I was, I was stopped in my tracks in the hallway on my way from the rest room to the living room where everyone was. Emotions was playing loudly. I vividly remember opening the door to the bathroom as she hit the first high note of the song. I was only 13, didn't understand the complexities of the human "voice", but was instantly mesmerized. I remember I stayed tucked in the hallway dancing around like a maniac, hoping not to get caught and beat.. Lol (oh life lol). I just remember thinking "power, how does she use so much power? Also, I never really thought about vocal runs and melisma at that point but the flexibility she demonstrated in that song, even as a little boy, I understood was immeasurable. Obsessed ever since then. Lol.

Stream (Ryan from Canada) (42,337) by Carlos Jaramillo from USA
I'm taking your advise. I just started streaming the song at work right now. There is a great majority that come on here as "lambs" to talk caca about Mariah's successes. Lets stop talking caca and take action. Please stream the song, then post that you participated in helping elevate our queen.

You guys can't be upset at Isaac. If you read his other posts, you will find that he munches on immaturity crackers all day and is the personification of "delusions". He is so steadfast on all his opinions and is incapable of separating fact from opinion and as a result gets a bit "testy" with his replies to people. My advice is to just give him the "thumbs down" he always brings upon himself and rightfully deserves and, lets keep focusing on the fabulosity that is Mariah Carey and, despite all our different opinions and view points, good or bad, we cant get enough of our musical supernova.

Get over the "singing live" thing #4 (41,840) by Carlos Jaramillo from USA
Lets just get over it and come to terms: Mariah's voice has to be appreciated in recording now, where she can take time to masterfully paste together the few, random moments she is able to produce pitch perfect sound to a track. Why is that a problem? Its still her and "only" her. We gotta give her a break. Those whom are "real" Mariah fans and can understand the magic that was/is her voice and how immeasurably and unequivocally incomparable it was, and ever will be, to any other artist that has, or ever will live, know what I'm talking about. I don't even say this as a super fan. I say this as biological, scientific fact. Mariah Carey has won a "once-in-a-race" vocal lottery. We can sit down and tear her apart all we want and make fun of or criticize her seemingly peculiar behavior but, if you are over the age of 30 and "lived" the era of "Mariah Carey", when you saw, live, her healthy voice annihilate her competitors at the time and studied the detail of her vocal artistry and produced sound, this woman has "nothing" to prove to us anymore. You understand that we were privileged to have lived in the same era as this goddess of song. Let her go on stage and lip synch the hell out of a song. In fact, we should enforce it. The less she sings on stage, over and over again, the more "voice" she will conserve to produce and record "pitch perfect" music we will be able to listen to for years to come. Stop expecting her to sing live. It will happen less and less, understandably.

Get over the "singing live" thing #3 (41,839) by Carlos Jaramillo from USA
Ever heard the song "Butterfly", Acapella version. Look it up. Sometimes it sounds like she produces two voices with one breath. At 1:45 seconds, even an untrained ear can distinctly hear it. You can literally hear the air/sound escaping through the nodules. Sounds amazing, but sad. Now, as the voice changes, a gifted vocalist understand how to manipulate their vocal mechanism to "deal with and compensate for their vocal "lacks"; to an extent. Over-drying your voice and, worse, singing and forcing high notes in-between extended whispers and all the other incomparable vocal intricacies of inflection Mariah is able conjure whilst force-drying her vocal folds with alcohol, damages the integrity of the voice, weakening its "air-support" strength. This renders the voice "inconsistent". Mariah can still sing, and "she" does everything that you hear in her songs but, its done in takes. Many, many takes. Most people know this but, dont understand the magnitude in which this audio operation aids the great majority of the artist's career. Mariah's voice does not have the "strength" to support "vocal perfection" for 4 minutes straight (I'm sure that after vocal rest she'd sound amazing, my comments are based on her current actions and way of living). She is definitely able to do a few seconds worth, which, if caught, pasted, edited and mastered, sounds like she's singing the whole thing in one breath. So, "its not that she cant sing". She just never knows when she will sound good or bad.

Get over the "singing live" thing #2 (41,837) by Carlos Jaramillo from USA
Mariah has spoken about her nodules in the past. In fact, she mentions that she uses those nodules to produce the notes in her whistle register. So, basically she is manipulating "damaged" tissue by forcing a strong, thin, steady stream of air through it which is, obviously, causing additional friction to this already callus-built-up area of the vocal fold. A nodule is none other than scar tissue. It's an area where the voice has been damaged or suffered a form of trauma, and thicker tissue has sealed over it. That "sealing" tissue, is damaged tissue which, additional stress to that particular area will only cause that tissue/nodule to grow. If you hold your two index fingers tightly side by side, thats basically what your larynx looks like. You see where the edges of your fingers meet? its a smooth line. Now, your folds, when healthy, are the same; smooth on the edges where they meet. They flap hundreds of times per-second and the air that squeezes through each flap is what produces sound. Now, the nodules make the once-smooth edges have gaps where air escapes, making the voice sound breathy, with less timber and power. Listen to her whisper songs from Music Box, like the song "Music box", compared to the whisper songs in Butterfly album. In Butterfly, the voice is much more breathy. It actually "sounds" cooler but, it's clear proof of beginning stages of vocal damage for those whom understand it. Link.

Get over the "singing live" thing #1 (41,836) by Carlos Jaramillo from USA
Its unfortunate to read everyone's take on Mariah's need to sing live and realize that 99.999% of the comments come from a place of lack of knowledge of the vocal mechanism. Mariah has not "forgotten" how to sing. Her vocal folds have to work much harder now to support the sounds she is trying to produce. If you remember back in the days, it seems like Mariah was able to hold notes a lot longer, with out taking so many breaths. The vocal cords thicken as you age and, overuse accelerates and worsens that natural physiological change. Not to mention, people don't realize whispering is horrible for the voice. It dries the vocal folds making them work extra hard to produce sound. Mariah "always" whispers, if not the full song, a large portion of the song. Then, her "whistle" register massacres her voice. Imagine that small, thin stream of air searing through her vocal cords as she squeezes out those notes between the folds. Also, Mariah is a heavy drinker. She has every right to live her life as she wishes, but when you drink and you sing, your vocal folds literally hemorrhage as you sing. Alcohol is a super drying agent to all our organs. The larynx is one of the last organs to hydrate when you drink water. Other vital organs take precedence. Mariah is constantly drying her voice. Think about how great she sounded, again, in the MCIIY. Why? She was pregnant and didn't drink, hence her chords got a break. A much needed, never before seen period of detox and relaxation for them.

MC will never sing with a female (41,418) by Carlos Jaramillo from USA
You guys. I think Mariah will never sing with another female singer, especially all the greats you guys have mentioned, because then she would have to sing that song "live" with them. Mariah is still incomparable when it comes to studio singing, but singing live has become a bit of a challenge for her. She would not go through the embarrassment of a flat/sharp note with another charting female presence on stage.

Hello, sir. Just a question. Why are my comments substituted and interrupted by brackets? The parts you are editing don't say anything wrong or incriminating so, I'm just wondering what I'm doing that renders pieces of my comments "unprintable". Just so I can change whatever Im doing because, the end result of what you print makes my comment seem incoherent. (Webmaster: Please don't write half of the words or complete sentences in capitals. It looks like you're trying to yell at us.)

Rambling on and on (41,307) by Carlos Jaramillo from USA
There is a method to her madness. Everyone is upset she doesn't answer questions. She does this on purpose people. Mariah is one artist that people [...] to hate. [...] she says is put under scrutiny, over analyzed, taken out of context, criticized, belittled, is condescended to or been made fun of. She is now in [...] control of what she speaks. The reporters and interviewers she only sees as her medium. Her "way" for expression. She doesn't allow being cornered anymore. She just digresses, dances around the subject, and then embarks on some random, distracting tangent of her choice. The reason it seems incoherent or detached is because, as I mentioned before, [...] Come one, we all know that cool or funny person that, after a few drinks may be a bit over the top, full of themselves, though they may be a great person. [...] All her other antics (divanisms) are only a smoke screen to dealing with her insecurities; talking about bad lighting, adjusting in her chair strategically hiding what "she thinks" is her fat, nervously twitching her hair (but masking it behind diva antics), wearing her glasses [...] a studio, hiding behind the radio host for picture time. These are all just manifestations of her insecurities and her attempt to hide them "in a way that no body can tell (supposedly)" because the just brush them off as, "oh, diva lady". Unfortunately, she is sadly mistaken, we can all see it and feel concern.

?Insecurity: the dismantling desease (41,306) by Carlos Jaramillo from USA
It is very sad to see how the older she gets, the more her insecurities obvious. We have to think though, can you imagine having the best voice in the history of recorded music, where she, at one point, could literally do whatever she wanted with her voice [...], while now, that is no longer the case (though, even with whatever damage her larynx has endured, she can still out sing even if only in the studio 95% of the other artists out there). It didn't matter what was on the video, who was dancing on stage or what the props were. When she was belting a-la Vision Of Love, Love Takes Time, Forever, Dreamlover [...] cared what was going on around her. They just wanted to [...]. We know she can't dance, she's a bit awkward in front of the camera and her acting skills are still in question. [...] She has too much compensation to undertake in an effort to achieve the same level of interest we showered her with when her voice was at its peak (Daydream). Unfortunately, that is [...] going to happen. Her voice has set the bar to unattainable levels. That being said, even though she's always acting fluffy, effervescent, happy-go-lucky and bubbly. I can assure you that in her core, this inevitable and continually unraveling truth concerns her within. She, like most of us, is just not dealing with her realities correctly. Her response to this problem should be to [...] the alcohol. Come on guys. Open your eyes. [...]

I feel you, girl and appreciate your opinion. I actually appreciate your delivery. Now, to clarify, I never hoped for similar "music" as the 90's. I specifically referenced her singing style. My reference to TAOLG was that she "sang" in that song. Not that it was a good song or a "chart topper". However, she was all-over-the-place vocally, in a good way. She has this need to sing very "urban" now. Thats where my "staccato" comment comes in. The fluidity is gone. It doesn't matter what the beat is, or what "time" we live in. If she still "sang" the song, like only she can (even still with whatever damage her voice has endured), she could add any kind of music, artist, vibe, instrument or collabo that she wants. It's not the music. Look at Adele, or many very current artists that still "sing" and are chart toppers, using ballads or slower, mid-tempo songs. If she was still doing amazing "vocal work", like I'm certain she can still do, our impression would be different. I think she "blands" her songs out now so that she can sing them live without everyone bashing the shit out of her, rather than dubbing, editing and pasting together a masterpiece like onlyshe can deliver. I think if we want Mariah to hit a number 1, she needs to relinquish all her artistic liberty to someone newer and fresher and then, with instruction, layer the vocals, again, [...]. If she wasnt clouded by the need to write her own stuff, I think we would have what we are all looking for.

6.8 out of 10 (41,156) by Carlos Jaramillo from USA
Maybe it's because I'm old (34) and I've been listening to Mariah from jump, when her singing was not as staccato. When every note was wonderfully and exaggeratedly over extended and ended in an unrepeatable majesty of melisma. Well, to me that is Mariah Carey. My point is, this song is great, it's just missing "something". It's missing the "Mariah" effect. Maybe the layering of vocals that usually accompanies Mariah's masterpieces? She sounds like she's talk-preach-story telling-singing. I miss the roller coster ride her vocals used to take you on. I mean, I even felt that ride on TAOLG. I don't know why this song has an element of "bland". Regardless, it's Mariah. I bought both versions and have the original on repeat (17th time so far). Mark my words, not a #1 but, I'm so happy "the voice" is gifting us again.

?Edward, in my opinion you make some of the most insightful comments on this message board. I actually log looking to read what you post. It's evident that you have actually "followed" and experienced "Mariah" and have "gone through" her many metamorphosis stages and phases. It's obvious that you are reasonable and grounded and able to set aside your love and admiration for Mariah enough so to make coherent, logically sustainable comments or observations and even predictions, about her life and career. I value your opinion and appreciate your consistency.

Isaac, Isaac, Isaac... (40,825) by Carlos Jaramillo from USA
Isaac, daling, I can't even be upset at you. Cutie! You can't be more than 17 years old or something "childish" like that. Now, you've never commented to me because I've never posted a comment so astronomically ridiculous that it drew you away from the actual attention and point of this site, which is to speak real "Mariah". Like you said, you've never disrespected me directly, you're right, but every time you speak and you keep that "dummy-stick" in your mouth, and you speak your diluted comments, which don't even pass as "opinions" but rather psychologically induced distortions of the reality around you, its like a straight slap in the face. I feel totally disrespected! Lol. In other words, you dont make any kind of sense, hon. You called me "irreverent". You obviously also use words you dont understand. For me to have acted irreverently, you, personally, would have had to be held in some type of high regard and clearly, thats not the case. Considering the fact that you are the one person that receives the most rebuttals of any other member of this blog. Also, I'm not upset at anything at all, as you claim. You are totally entitled to your own ignorant opinion, as I am entitled to shedding light on said ignorance.

Every time I read your postings, I give thanks that the internet offers potentiality of space for unlimited messages. If not, we'd really need to vote you off the message bored. It seems like you have a Mariah Carey "trivia" deck of cards in your hand and you are randomly selecting little pieces of information from each card and meshing it all together to construct an "incoherent" message to put on this board. Your levels of "delusion" are mesmerizing to me. "Almost Home was not right for Mariah's voice." Really? You make the most hysterical unsubstantial comments relative to her career. I guess we all have the right to our own opinions, be they ignorant or not but, wow... Lol.

Alex from England and Isaac Ortiz / USA (40,592) by Carlos Jaramillo from USA
Isaac, how dare we call you a "so called fan"? Lets start by the fact that you couldn't have heard "Without You" by MC 21 years ago, because it hadn't been released. If you're going to defend your "fanaticism", get your facts strait. Alex, amazing. Eough said. This happens to us Americans as a whole. We are shady. The majority are "fair weather friends" and those that are offended by that comment, it's because it probably most supposed to be directed at you. Yeah Mariah has all the money in the world and giving away a "tiny" (by her standards) diamond neckless is equivalent to us dropping a few quarters in a homeless person's hand at an intersection while we wait for the light to turn green. Why do we even go there? Because we are greedy, self absorbed and lack realism. The real MC fans, from actual 21 or so years back, know that Mariah is a person of sentiment, emotion, almost feeble in her social dealings with a lack luster impression of whom she really is on this earth. Things, possessions, dates and scenarios that are close to her or represent significant passages in her life are "priceless". She is giving us the opportunity to attain something of hers that is as close and personal as any of us can ever or will ever get to the incomparable MC. It's shocking and disgusting how people proclaim their love her in one line, only do dissemble her morbidly in the next. Alex, your concise comment is perfect. It could sit on this message board all on its own. Thank you.

Songs never before heard by the queen (40,314) by Carlos Jaramillo from USA
So I was able to do some research and found literally [...] of songs written and recorded by MC that are filed and active through ASCAP that none of us have [...] Songs written/recorded as early as 1987. [...] Well it says that Tommy owes the right to many of these songs and, certainly she must also have a hundred songs she prerecorded to select the "best" from for any given album. We love Mariah but, you can hear a "total" different voice in each album. Her voice, though amazing, seems to be very delicate or, um, "abused". Either way, songs she probably didn't like then, must sound [...] now, considering the incalculable vocal abilities she displayed in her youth. Give me ideas. [...] I have funds, I'll do all the leg work and pay for the necessities, but I don't know where to start. Help me. It'd be the [...] gift we could give ourselves in this life time (for us ol'school lambs).

[...] (39,923) by Carlos Jaramillo from USA
So, I was thinking guys, those of us whom "really" know Mariah Carey and her work antics know that before she releases a final product, she records many songs, so she has her favorites to select from and ultimately come up with an album. My point, I know she had to have been doing this always. This must be a practice she started in her early years. I did some research and found that Tommy the dictator is owner of many, many completed Mariah Carey unreleased songs. She has to have many of them as well. Imagine if she released these songs. Even if only as a media gimmick to sell individually; release them little by little as she did with the 5 covers of #Beautiful. She can take the vocals and update the music if she just feels they may be dated. Even though we always see this "diva", big personality, persona, I can assure you that she doesn't quite "grasp" the magnitude of the quality, perfection, unexplainable dynamics and unequivocal intricacies of her vocals. Weather you like MC or not, there is no denying that in our lifetime, we will never hear a voice that is even similar to the real MC. We have to relive the experience of hearing new music, but with the vocal prowess that was unleashed during her vocal peak. [...] If enough of us beg and plead, we can have the "real" MC back. I'm sure there are albums worth of flawless MC we can hear. That album would sell [...]. All the [...] would purchase this album.

The Art of Letting Go (39,769) by Carlos Jaramillo from USA
Part 4: It's not like anything you'd expect for it to be but it's perfect. It sounds more like a "charm track" that you find on a great album. I'd say this is like "track number 5" on any given amazing MC album. But one that ultimately becomes a fan favorite. If you know the Mariah I'm talking about, you know what I mean. This track has the stunning amazingness and the emotional and eternal likability that envelopes you when you hear "Till the end of time", which was never a single but truly a literal gem in the incomparable repertoire of the most perfect voice in the history of recorded music: Mariah Carey.
(Tuesday 12 November 2013; 22:37)
The Art of Letting Go (39,768) by Carlos Jaramillo from USA
Part 3: The great majority of her recent music was just not allowing for the toke, cradle and rewind session to be the body tingling "religious experience" that was effortlessly delivered with every track on her earlier albums. The last time for me was actually one specific fly away track on her Glitter album which, to this day I still say is her best recorded vocal performance: Lead The Way. That was the last time I lit one, lifted myself to elevated places and was able to soar with the highest of her vocal unleashes and felt shivers and tingles in places that only a physical touch should be able to manifest. Lead The Way makes you feel things, honestly. Like I said, especially if you puff, puff and don't pass. Well, it happened again. As I was saying, when I heard the first few chords, I turned off the song, went home, constructed my essentials and prepped my mind, as the bluetooth connected. All I can tell you is that all the years of being a Jehovah can't prepare you for the emotions, the internal churning, the spiritual reverberation that beckons the activation of the very nerve endings that force the manifestation of goose bumps and, in areas where you didn't even know you had nerve endings.

The Art of Letting Go (39,767) by Carlos Jaramillo from USA
Part 2: Anyway, fabulously there after, I discovered marijuana. Ok, have you ever listened to Mariah after a toke or two? A religious experience. (Now, when I say "Mariah", I mean album Mariah Carey, Daydream... When Butterfly hit, though amazing, her voice and style were changed for ever. For us real fans, we stuck through it and will love her no matter what. But we are always hoping for a realization on her part that, though she may not appreciate it much, she is and will always be the ballad queen. And we miss her.) [...] When I started to play the song and realized that the first few chords had no bass, no rappers, no electronic musicality or instrumentation and that, on the contrary, there was an [...] playing and awaiting her "butter-melt" of a voice to complement its perfection, I turned it off immediately and went home so I could roll one up real quick. Its been a long time since I had a new "religious experience".
