About MC1989 from Spain: I love music. From soul to pop. Mariah is my passion.

Re: There's got to be a way live (94,248) (94,264) by MC1989 from Spain
What a beautiful voice she has. So proud of her using her popularity to support the black community and speaking against the racism and police brutality that this case is bringing on to the table.

Re: #Justice4Charmbracelet is 18 on iTunes (93,935) (93,938) by MC1989 from Spain
I understand your point, but commercial success doesn't mean that it's better. In terms of relevancy, yes, Charmbracelet is less important than Rainbow in MC's career. I see it as an album for the fans, not for the general audience because it's not an easy listening album. In general MC's most popular albums and songs are also some of her best [in] terms of quality, but not always.

Glitter was a flop because of the movie, among other factors. They can say what they want about the movie but the album is one of my favourites and so diverse in styles and risky in some ways. Music Box is Mariah's most successful album but the lyrics are very cliché. In many ballads and musically (leaving the singles aside) she did a lot better with Emotions, Daydream or Butterfly.

Touch My Body became number one but Obsessed is better haha. And it stands as one of her post-prime most popular songs.

Caution deserved a lot more attention, though it received great reviews. A few friends (non fans) have told me they listen regularly to With You, A No No or GTFO. And to me it's [in my top] 5 favourites with Daydream, TEOM, Butterfly and Mariah Carey. I don't skip any song from the album.

Unforgettable with French Montana didn't get any attention and I believe if it was sung by any other current artist it would've been a worldwide hit.

I agree with Daydream. It's also my favourite and deserves even much more recognition. As much as I love the first album, Buttetfly, and TEOM, I think Daydream captures Mariah at her best. It was eclectic, and it was the last time Mariah went that pop with Fantasy, in my opinion one of the best songs in her catalogue. I didn't like it at first but through the years I realized how good it is and how much I miss Mariah doing a pop song. Daydream contains some of her best vocals, great arrangements (Daydream Interlude), it has an urban sound (Underneath The Stars, Long Ago, Fantasy), timeless ballads (Open Arms, I Am Free), classic catchy tunes (Always Be My Baby) and some deep lyrics (Looking In). I wish people would remember her for this masterpiece rather than for Merry Christmas. I would like that Mariah and her team would put the same effort in this aniversary as they did last year with the 25th aniversary of Merry Christmas. I love Merry Christmas, don't get me wrong. It's just that I'm tired of the anual AIWFCIY tour, reminding us she's the queen Of Christmas extravaganza and all that. But If she doesn't want AIWFCIY to eclipse a 30 year spanning career she should put the same attention and efforts on promoting the rest of her catalogue.

Re: #Justice4Charmbracelet is 18 on iTunes (93,924) (93,928) by MC1989 from Spain
No. It's not. The only thing that bothers me a little bit is the overuse of whispered vocals, but songs like Irresistible, Bringin' On The Heartbreake, Clown, etc make it a good r&b álbum to listen to at home. Not Mariah at her best but a good effort. I think that "Rainbow" is her worst, thought I love the singles.

Re: Article: Mariah warns her staff against April Fool's Day pranks (93,490) (93,503) by MC1989 from Spain
Amen Andrew. By the way, now that most of their schedules and concerts have been or will be cancelled, I wish Mariah could focus on connecting again with her musicality, with the art of singing live from her home and crafting music. Now that she won't be doing those boring residencies singing Hero and her number ones over and over again with tired vocals, only for the contracts and the money involved, I would love her to bless us with more moments like the recent ABMB performance. She can sing In her studio, do some acoustic performances taking her time, feeling comfortable and uploading the one she thinks Is the best, without all the pressure of being on a stage. Sing just for the love Of singing and gifting her fans, and proving the main publicado that she still got it, just as she did last Sunday.

Camon, she has a huge catalogue, and songs she only sang one or twice or even none. Vanishing, Alone In Love, All In Your Mind, If It's Over, The Wind, Music Box, Now That I Know, I Am Free, Looking In, Open Arms, Babydoll, The Roof, Close My Eyes... Go for the ones you hardly ever sing, Mariah.

Mariah Carey: Casta Diva (93,230) by MC1989 from Spain
Any French fans here? Has anyone read this book by Vincent Grimaud? I like the description and the cover with MC as Marie Antoinette.

Mariah tweeted about AYNAF original video (93,228) by MC1989 from Spain
She answered a man who posted a picture from the AYNAF shelved video saying he was one of the boy angels in the video, saying "Thank you so much for finding this. A good trip down memory lane. Too bad they scrapped this video though I do love my first blow out in the official video."

Re: AYNAF unreleased video (93,196) (93,199) by MC1989 from Spain
I think that's what happened. In the ET video she's complaining about her hair, the concept etc, so she probably did not like it. I hope she releases it someday for the fans. The AYNAF vídeo that we know is good and simple, maybe too simple and a bit boring. At least the original one looked more genuine by the few pictures we've seen.

PS: Can we say something about those few seconds of the AYNAF rehearsal? Simply wow.

We need an uptempo song (92,973) by MC1989 from Spain
As much as I enjoyed GTFO, Caution, A No No, With You, Giving Me Life or 8th Grade (I love the whole Caution album), I think Mariah should now move out of her comfort zone. That means move from r&b a little bit. I wouldn't like her to go on to EDM or electronic pop, or sound too commercial, but rather move towards a happy pop melody like Fantasy, which is not a fast song but has a lot of rhythm. We need a simple melody in a major chords tone, happy, with a strong beat and a summer vibe. No more We Belong Togethers please (we've had enough with Angels Cry, Inseparable, I Stay In Love, Bye Bye, With You etc). I like those songs but they are WBT replicas, with almost the same structure. I would love her to do a song with less ornaments, less minor tonalities, less background harmonies, less airy sounds, iii- iii- eee ooh in between lines or at the end of the words. Instead, a recognizable chorus (not like in Infinity or In The Mix) like she did in Dreamlover, Fantasy, Always Be My Baby or Beautiful. A catchy uptempo single with a good melody in a major key, so that the the happy sound is easier to achieve.

Mariah needs to recover her voice and stop touring (92,886) by MC1989 from Spain
I've been a huge fan for decades now. I've been very supportive even at her worst moments. I went to her Christmas show in Madrid in 2018 and when Caution came out I thought it was one of her best albums in her entire career. When she released Caution I was proud of her again. She gave us some really good live moments during The Caution Tour and she made a little effort by changing the setlist (Glitter medley etc), and the visuals were good for the first time in ages (With You live at The AMAs and the stage production of her Caution Tour). 2019 was a great year for her. As a fan, for the first time in many years I witnessed how she was gaining some respect back and public recognition for her long career and the living legend that she Is (Billboard Icon Award, 19th number one, Songwriters Hall Of Fame induction recently).

Yesterday watching the videos from her Vegas residency I cringed. The only one that I really enjoyed was Endless Love, where she manages to sing 99% live with a beautiful tone. But in most of the songs she sounds restrained and hoarse again except in some little parts, no belting anywhere, no sustained notes, playback at its worse. (There's a video during the medley where she's still talking while the first line of Honey comes in. Why? Just why does she needs to lip that first easy line?) She barely moves with that pink barbie gown (she even addressess it), what makes the experience boring. I don't need her to put out a choreographed show and dance as if she was Beyoncé because her talent lies in that voice, that beautiful tone and resonance, and the magic of that huge catalogue of songs crafted by her. But if the voice is at its worse, the lipped parts are so obvious, and she just moves badly around a stage I don't want to see it. It's painful. When she's focused and she works hard, she still can slay and own that stage. But what if for the first time she tries something new? Surgery maybe? Re-learn how to use her voice? But I'm afraid she's becoming lazy and the main reason for these concerts is not promoting anything new, not for the fans, but for the money.

I'm really tired of the chez-longue intros (really, who direct these shows?), the champagne moments on stage and the long tight barbie gowns and corsets that prevent her to move. I would really love her to finish this boring Vegas residency and focus on improving her singing. Focus on recovering her voice, go to the best doctors only people like her can afford, work with the best vocal coaches, train daily, learn new singing techniques because it's obvious that everything else is not working. Time to stop and face that "voice problem" that causes her so much insecurity and be with her family. Focus on new music if she wants to (music that she can replicate live) on her memoirs (I'm really looking forward for that release this year), but she really needs to move from the spotlight for a while, until she comes back with a renewed sense of confidence in her instrument, and can give a good performance with no need of lipping. And learn some easy dance steps would be great too.

If she doesn't stop, I'm afraid sooner or later we'll have another viral video like the one I mentioned before where she's badly lip-synching.

Love Takes Time in "Pose" (90,863) by MC1989 from Spain
So I just watched Episode 8 from the second season of one of the best TV series ever, in my humble opinion: Pose. I literally cried. Glad to see that they included Love Takes Time (almost the full song) in that way. They brought like a new meaning to the song. Just amazing.

I'm so obsessed with this song by Billie Eilish. How I wish Mariah would do a ballad like this, just her voice and a piano.

Oh my, what a voice. I wish they release these epic performances someday like they did with Whitney, in a CD + DVD album. Vision of Love live at NARM convention is one of my favourite MC's performances. I hope to see the whole performance of Vanishing in a near future like it happened with the Michael Bolton duet (first came the snippet and after a long time someone uploaded the whole audio). Thanks Bill.

Re: Mi amigo (89,563) (89,566) by MC1989 from Spain
First of all, it's obvious my English is not the best, but I would like to see you speaking in Spanish or Galician, Portuguese or French as I do, without any help from a dictionary. You made the Thessaurus joke before with other people so try another one. Apart from that, do you know me? Well then eat your judgemental opinions on me. I've defended you many times on thins board, so I don't get your offensive tone and prepotent attitude towards me, but I supose that's due to your lack of maturity. Sooner or later life will teach you a little humbleness. Lastly, after reading your post I realize that you know nothing about the real situation about sexism and women in the world, with that uninformed idea about men having even more difficulties than women (hello again, unadmited sexism). You know very little about the real situation in the queer community. Again, you speak from your uninformed point of view, speaking from your privilege as a white cisgender European man. May I remind you that Stonewall riots were started by black transgender women. You deny the existence of "cisgender" people and I bet that you think "genderfluid people" is another invention that sounds cool and enlightened. You probably think Judith Butler - I bet you don't even know her - and the gender theories are bullshit. You assume that I regurgitate other people's theories and opinions without knowing me, well, again, I feel sorry for you and your lack of knowledge and your prepotency. Gender, not biological sex, is a social construction, but I'm not gonna lose my time and bore you and some conservative people on this board because my aim is not changing anyone's mind. I was just demanding respect, and everything I said was related. And by the way, I'm not your friend.

Re: Please respect Madonna, avoid sexist comments (89,554) (89,555) by MC1989 from Spain
Gobbledygook? I know your act, dahling. I know how to distinguish sexist and ageist comments ("she looked like my mother trying to be sexy", "she's too old for doing that", "she moves like an old woman", "a woman must be classy", etc) from comments based on a personal taste. You can like or dislike the outfit, the song, her dancing, whatever, but when those opinions are accompanied with those kinds of comments, they're reflecting how our patriarchal society influences people on their vision of how a woman should or shouldn't dress depending on her age.

You know what happens? The funny thing is that a woman can be or act sexy while she's attractive to men and fits the conventional male gaze representations of women. And preferentially if she shows a submissive and girlie attitude. Madonna always played with her sexuality and she used it as a reclame many times, but the difference is that most of the times she did it with a very different attitude than most pop females singers do nowadays (just watch Madonna's "Express Yourself" video and then watch Ariana Grande's "7 Rings"), she owned her body and her message was that, do what you want with your body for you, enjoy your sexuality and have sexual pleasure (something historically denied for women, still a big taboo in many societies), and I believe most times she didn't do it for the male gaze but to provoke in a time where Catholic Church among many other conservative institutions had a lot of weight and power. In our gerontophobic and sexist world, when a woman has children, showing her body and enjoying publicly her sexuality is seeing negatively, unless you do it like if you're in a porn movie for heterosexual men. When female artists pass certain age it seems they must stop enjoying and expressing their sexuality or using revealing outfits otherwise general public will condemn and reject them. I can criticise Mariah for wearing a bikini while singing "O Holy Night" because it's the wrong context and the wrong song for that, but if she wants to sing "Honey" in a swimsuit it's ok for me. I can criticise the outfit if it doesn't look good to me (the angel wings during her Christmas shows), but not basing my opinion on how she should wear according to her age.

I would like to see some of you guys in, let's say 10 or 20 years, with your beautiful wrinkles and your grey hairs talking in public about how horrible is to see an old woman like *Madonna* (insert other artist's name) dancing and flirting the way she does, because she should be wearing a classy gown and move like a classy lady and then going home seeking desperately for sex in *Grinder* (insert any other App for meetings) to comfort your depression because you feel rejected by this ageist society.
