Yes to an acoustic rendition of My All. Ugh. It would be eargasmic.

Re: Biggest concern (77,061) (77,072) by darrian liu from taiwan
I agree with your post Bill, but you made "re-arranging" her songs sound bad. In fact, I think it's what will save her reputation as a singer and as a vocalist. Re-arranging her songs will show the general public that she is creative and at the same time, it will allow Mariah to pick which aspects of her voice to be showcased and which to be hidden, which then leaves her with nothing to be lipped or faked. Of course she still needs to retrain her voice so that she would be able to do more things with her voice, but re-arranging her songs would be a really great idea. Maybe she could strip it down to just a guitar. Maybe she could do a full-on jazzy version of her songs. Maybe she could blend a live orchestra and give it a little hip hop spin, a la Lana Del Rey. Maybe she could slow it down and give a more tropical feel. The possibilities are endless given her talents. Problem is she seems to be stuck in a creative rut and is quite uninterested in performing nowadays.

Rest (77,044) by darrian liu from taiwan
Maybe it's best for Mariah to get an extended break. At this rate, if she keeps on going, she's gonna make even more mess. Then again, with the leech extraordinaire stuck under her armpit 24/7, it wouldn't be great for her finances. By now I'm convinced Stella got Mariah under some voodoo influence or something.

Re: More Circles (lead vocal only) (77,008) (77,035) by darrian liu from taiwan
Simply stunning. I've never heard anyone jump 2 octaves in their range with such agility and precision besides Mariah. Circles's vocals still blow me out of the water to this day.

Recent performances (77,034) by darrian liu from taiwan
There's something off recently, starting with Baku, and now onto the first dates of the final Vegas shows. She seems so wooden and uninterested, she doesn't try to hit the notes (Vegas's Emotions this year so far had no E5 belts, unlike usual), and overall she looks tired and detached. That SSFT bright, smooth vocals and confidence are gone. Is this because of NYE? She better get herself together (yknow, like what she should've done this past 3 years).

Completely unrelated to Mariah but (76,797) by darrian liu from taiwan
Germany legalized same-sex marriage, and I couldn't think of a better way to end this Pride Month. I hope y'all in the LGBTQ+ community will continue to love and continue to spread positivity and self-love, because we're born this way and we're all beautiful people. I hope the spirit of Pride Month will continue on through out the year, and not just in the month itself.

Re: Thanks for Nothing in Baku (76,711) (76,731) by darrian liu from taiwan
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Cruise Control was meant to dominate the airwaves in summer. It's the potential song of the summer. It's got "smash hit" all over it. It could've been Mariah's 19th number one after TMB. I'm still bitter about it lmao.

I wonder where the hell did those SSFT wonderful vocals have gone. I facepalmed listening to Baku vocals. Is she seeing a vocal coach? It really doesn't sound like she is. She really needs to.

Re: Mariah's voice was fab in Vegas, but... (76,495) (76,497) by darrian liu from taiwan
Confidence contributes a lot in performances. In Vegas she was surrounded with an almost-exclusively lamb audience. In televised settings, or in settings like Glock, Jamaica Jazz, etc, the audience is quite different, hence her nerves will be kicked up a notch. That's actually a sign that she's not confident in her voice and her technique in general, which is why it's a good idea for her to take some time off and intensively train her voice with a really really good vocal instructor, so that her vocal health can rebound and that her technique will be back at a point where she can count on her voice reliably.

Glitter era vs now (76,437) by darrian liu from taiwan

Re: Mariah has got to stop (76,399) (76,436) by darrian liu from taiwan
Her voice is too damn chesty for her not to be straining. In the Glock performances she's not even comfortable within her usual comfort range. Her belts are too chesty and too heavy, and she's not using enough head resonance. I doubt she would want to remove the nodules, but the least she could do is see a good vocal trainer. No, not just good, he/she should be able to rehabilitate her voice. We need Gary Catona, the guy who managed to salvage what's left of Whitney's voice in her last days.

Re: Feuds? (76,374) (76,380) by darrian liu from taiwan
Mariah's gotta do it, especially with Nicki. Nicki's solo work is... questionable (well, aside from some of the songs from the Pinkprint and her earlier works), but her features? That's another story. Remember that remix of Up Out My Face? That was a bop right there. I want another Mimi x Nicki collab.

Re: The lack of style (76,136) (76,145) by darrian liu from taiwan
But Mariah, being the beautiful woman she is, could look much better with the right clothes. Imagine if Rachel Zoe styles her. Or Andre Leon Talley. Stella's style is seeping into her and Stella isn't exactly a fashion forward person.

Beyonce, Jay-Z and Mariah? (76,101) by darrian liu from taiwan
So apparently there's a number circulating all over NYC. It's 4:44, and it's rumored to be a hint for Beyonce's and Jay-Z's joint album. And this IG post speculates that Mariah is going to be involved. What do you guys think?

Re: Battle of the albums round 1 (75,811) (75,850) by darrian liu from taiwan
It's almost impossible to pick between the eponymous album and Emotions. I feel like debut album has the higher highs, the best moments of Mariah Carey outshines the best moments of Emotions, but Emotions is a more cohesive, consistent album, whereas Mariah Carey almost sounds like it's trying hard to show Mariah's multifaceted quality as an artist because it dips on many different genres. It's a tough one but I'm currently leaning more to Emotions. (If I were to think about this a few days ago, I would've answered Mariah Carey. It changes with my mood tbh.)

Re: Daydream (75,745) (75,754) by darrian liu from taiwan
Hmm, interesting. A lirico-spinto soprano is just another name for spinto soprano, it basically means "pushed lyric". Mariah is not a spinto soprano, she's a light lyric coloratura soprano. This is because her voice sounds girly, youthful and light. Mariah also has a ton of agility in her voice, a hallmark quality of a light lyric coloratura. Mariah can resonate to great volumes, but it certainly isn't to an extent of a spinto soprano. A spinto soprano would be Whitney Houston in her prime, and as we can hear, her voice "slices" through loud instrumentation (see her performance of One Moment in Time in 1988 Grammys). Her belts also have this metallic quality to it, a similar quality that Celine Dion and Monica Naranjo has. Instead, Mariah's belts sound warmer and sweeter, and she doesn't have the ability to just slice through loud instrumentation like what Whitney has demonstrated (1992 If It's Over Grammy performance, amazing resonance, but at times, her voice almost drowns in the loud backing sounds, even with her enormous resonance), an indication that she is a light lyric. Both Whitney and Celine doesn't have the agility that Mariah has in spades, and all three are developed vocalists. This means that Mariah is in a different vocal fach from them. Yes, in Daydream, her voice was thinning out, but it just emphasizes the lyrical quality in her voice, as her voice was at its lightest, at its warmest and at its most youthful, girly and yes, buttery (along with Merry Christmas and Music Box). I don't really hear the metallic quality in Mariah's voice, could you point out examples of this? And Christina Aguilera isn't a spinto as well. She's a lyric mezzo-soprano, there's literally no metallic quality to her voice whatsoever since her debut until now.

Re: Martyn who? He is not the only victim (75,698) (75,714) by darrian liu from taiwan
You did not just post that. Martyn is a member of our family here. He's one of us. Of course we are gonna be shocked and grieved. By the way, I live in Jakarta, and yes, another bombing happened. It's horrible, just so horrible. So many people injured. To think this only happened a few days after the terrible Manchester bombing. Such a senseless act of violence. This is unacceptable. Again, we all have to be united in this. Let the deaths of those victims, and Martyn, be a fire for us to stick even closer together, because love will always win over terror and hatred.

I just can't believe this. I don't know him well but still, it's such a terrible loss. I hope that his family and friends will go through this very difficult time. Such a beautiful soul. Rest in peace Martyn. Will play Till The End of Time in his memory.

Re: Mariah loosing a lot of fans thread (75,554) (75,571) by darrian liu from taiwan
Yes, tabloids and media still talk about Mariah, which makes her relevant as a celebrity, but not as a musical artist. Well I guess you could say she's still relevant, but not in the way that is beneficial to her reputation and image. Her relevance as a musical artist has diminished so much since 2013.

Manchester (75,570) by darrian liu from taiwan
My heart goes to those living in Manchester, and whose family members, friends or relatives attended Ariana Grande's concert, as well as the Arianators. Please, stay safe and be optimistic. Those bombers got nothing on us if we're all united.
