What a lovely respons. The weather is sunny and 10°C, absolutely perfect, you can hear how nature is coming alive, and with the soundtrack of my life to set the tone to it all.

How Mariah has helped me (99,959) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I just recently moved into a new apartment, with a balcony facing south, third floor, with a view to the old fortified town of Fredrikstad in the south east of Norway. It's my first real apartment, and Mariah has been with me this whole time.

This morning, while I sat and had my morning coffee on my balcony in the early spring sun, I played Make it Happen Live at Madison Square Garden, her best performance ever, on my vintage Phillips 60's record player, and then I cried the tears of joy. I had "Don't let go, don't ever, ever let go" as a mantra since a was around 16 years old.

I have had hardships in my life, also being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and has always known Mariah was in a manic state in that infamous TRL episode during the Glitter era. I have found great relief in Mariah's music, especially MIH, UTS, ABMB, WBT, TTB, Butterfly, IBT, and IIO, but have listened to all her music, have all her physical cds, many physical singles, some concerts on DVD, and a few singles on vinyl, every single from TEOM, and a UK Dj exclusive of the CC Music Factory of AYNAF, two discs with remixes, my absolute treasure of a Mariah item. On my bookcase from the 1800s, a Mariah Funky Pop figure is placed, and every Christmas I play Merry Christmas on vinyl.

I love you Mariah.

Re: Rank the (US) #1s, it's too quiet (99,951) (99,952) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Yes, TJ, I know, don't understand how that song became a #1 hit. In the Wikipedia article about TGIFY, one critic believe it's chart success was based purly on Mariah's reputation.

Thank God I Found You is the song I absolutly like the least of all of Mariah's songs, I actually hate it. I rembember when "The Greatest Hits" was released, I used to play both discs at a friend of mine. He didn't dislike Mariah's music, but everytime that song came on, I believe it is the last song on the first disc, he always commented that the song was s**t.

Re: Memoirs is an attempt at Butterfly II (99,943) (99,948) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I feel Memoirs is the album when Mariah started to make bland songs without melodies and impossible to sing along to, and she hasn't stopped since. She needs to go back to make songs with good hooks you can sing at a karaoke bar, like Dreamlover, Always Be My Baby, My All, Heartbreaker, We Belong Together and I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time. The Distance was good, though.

Mariah's birth year (99,931) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I just noticed Wikipedia only list 1969 as Mariah's birth year. Is it confirmed now then, that she is soon to be 53 years old?

Watching the "Tommy Mottola's Mariah" (part 3), and I wonder, was the last time Mariah wore trousers during the Rainbow era?

I have a theory (99,574) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Listen guys, I think the reason why Mariah's voice has declined the last couple of decades or three, is because she started out completly insecure of herself, but through the years, she has somewhat recuped herself.

I have had the similar journey, also bipolar, also the first breakout around my 30th birthday.

iTunes top 100 (99,513) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Does anyone here check the iTunes top 100 charts regularly? I do, maybe once a month or something, but just the R'n'B charts. What I have noticed, is that Whitney, Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner and Alicia Keys are always present with a few songs on the chart, Whitney with the most, almost always at least four songs.

But the last few months, Mariah's Fantasy has been everpresent quite high on the charts, surely because of Free Guy. But Always Be My Baby has also been on the charts regularly the past few months. Besides those, Mariah rarely makes it to the top 100 a part from Hero or Without You occasionally.

The countries where there's a chance of finding Mariah on the R'n'B top 100 are USA, Brazil, Greece, UK, France and Australia

Re: Through The Rain/AYNAF (99,476) (99,479) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Randy, it was a success outside USA, not a huge hit, but it actually performed better than the songs on TEOM here in Norway. Also a modest hit in the UK. In Asia it was a huge hit, especially in the Phillipines, there I think it's Mariah's biggest hit of her career.

Back to Norway, people here recognize TTR more often than WBT for example.

Charbracelet came out just after I moved to Oslo to study when I was 19 years old. Have so many memories from that album, when I listen to it, it takes me right back to those times.

I rarely listen to CB nowadays though.

Last really good vocalist (99,376) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Just a question: is Christina Aguilera the last really talented and good singer? Ariana Grande almost [has]the same register as Mariah, but I feel Aguilera is more of a raw vocalist.

Another question: it has been 32 years since a really great vocalist has debuted, and we all know that's Mariah. Will there ever be as good of a singer as Mariah, Whitney or Celine ever again? What is the reason that there hasn't been a female vocal goddess after 1990? Is it because that image is more important than talent these days? Or [were] we just very lucky, the ones who are live today, to have witness three extraordinary vocalists like those three, is it like the chance of life itself, we just hit the jackpot with three extremely talented singers being alive and active at almost the exact same time?

Why the ugly clothes? (99,290) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Why does Mariah dress like she really just want to show off how much money she has got. Especially the outfit when she is out on a stroll with Bryan, she looks like some people here in Oslo in Norway, rich, but with poor taste, mixes and matches the most awful expensive clothes.

James Cordon interview (99,114) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I actually liked the interview. This maybe seem strange, I found it relateble that Mariah seemed very fragile, but not in a bad way. It looks like this pandemic has taken a toll on Mariah, she has become a bit down to earth again, and that is a good thing.

Yes, she behaved like the diva she is presumed to be, but she loves to do that, and she has sticked to that routine for over two decades in spite of constant criticism from the public. I love people who just do what they want to do even though everybody has an opinion of it, and many people thinks it's a ridiculous act.

But she seemed extremely self-conscious, couldn't focus in the beginning, and it took a long time before she put her gard down. It wasn't until she threw the shoe, that she felt a little relaxed, it seemed. She felt human.

About the weight, I'm bipolar myself, and have been that since 2008. Mariah's meltdown on TRL in 2001 is exactly how my behaviour became the first time I got sick, completely in a manic state. Mariah had a worse time than me, obviously, since her life was written about in every newspaper around the world. I live in Norway where Mariah's success has been limited, but that breakdown and the fact she got sacked by Virgin, was a huge story in the biggest newspapers in this country. I had the luxury that my first episode of a manic episode only was seen by family and friends.

Ok, I loved the interview, Mariah was insecure, but seemed happy, like many of us, and it was a delight to see her out and about again and actually likeable.

Everybody likes Mariah, but nobody wants to admit (98,971) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Ok, hear me out, this is a fan biased theory, and my posts are usually really long, but this one I will keep short.

Since Mariah became a house hold name after "Without You", when she really captured the whole world for the first time, but then became a house hold punching bag pretty much since 1997, and at least since "Glitter", many people have her deap encaptured in their memories. I think most people in the ages 24-65 years, who experienced Mariah when she was heard all day on the radio for a decade straight, actually have an inate feeling of wanting her more.

People who grew up with Mariah on the radio, or had kids listening to her on the radio, will never forget her.

But it has become unpopular, bad taste, even tacky, to just like Mariah and her music. Most people listen to Mariah without nobody knowing, whilst others not only listen to her, but actually love her and even discuss Mariah on a Mariah-platform, you know, like us.

I have a theory that says that the reason AIWFCIY have become so popular, is because if it had been tasteful or cool to listen to Mariah year long, people would have done it, but it's not. So the only time the general public can really put on a song, sing on the top of their lungs, and just love Mariah, is during Christmas. Then they can, without a doubt and without shame, absolute love Mariah and her voice and love one of the greatest songs ever written. People can shamelessly love Mariah, it makes people happy (and no difference #1).

I have listened to "Merry Christmas" on LP this evening, have a lovely Mariah season everyone.

Mariah McDonald's (98,907) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I honestly thought it was a joke. Mariah's net worth has decreased with 200 million dollars the last few years, and she isn't exactly selling loads of concert tickets while on tour, only pushing a few thousands a show, so I can understand she needs to be creative when it comes to her income. But, why couldn't Mariah promote a bit more healthy life style or a bit more classy endorsments? She has promoted coockies, sweat and creamy alcohol beverage, and now fast food.

We all know that Mariah is living on the unhealthy side of the spectrum, beeing a bit overweight and drinking sparkling wine whenever she can, but is this really a life style she should push on other people?

I just feel promoting a deal for McDonald's is a tad tacky, and not a brand I want to associate with Mariah Carey.

Anyways, Christmas is always a special time, and Mariah has been a huge part of Christmas for me the last couple of decades. I just wished Mariah would keep it classy. All I want for Christmas is a McDonald's free Mariah season.

Latin inspired Christmas song? (98,845) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I don't feel this song at all, doesn't have a Christmas feel to it, actually it's one of the few Mariah tunes I really dislike.

Vocal coach reactions (98,808) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I don't know if this guy has been referenced to before, but he is the absolute best vocal coach on YouTube, especially when it comes to Mariah. He is the "Mariah" of YouTube vocal coaching.

He is extremely articulate and detailed, he explains everything, every second of many live performances by Mariah, and all the performances he's watching are the definitive fan favourite performances. Some of the performances he is watching are dubbed, but he doesn't know that. Those reactions are still fun to watch, because the explanations he's giving us, can easily be translated to Mariah singing in the studio, because his vocal coaching seems to be very technical.

Here is one of the reaction videos. Enjoy.

Adele taking over Mariah (98,783) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I know many people here are writing about Adele, and I have to admit I was one one of us starting it. One on this board even said that Adele will encapsulate Mariah's Christmas season. I will assure you, with very few words, why we have nothing to worry about. The very few words I'll be using will be are: All I Want for Christmas is You.

The only words you want to be afraid of are these. There will never be, at least in the next six hundred years to come, a greater icon of Christmas than Mariah. She's the queen, she's the voice, she's the drama, she's the queen of Christmas, she has become the equivalent of Santa Claus, she is Mariah Carey.

Believe it or not, more people believe in Mariah during Christmas than Santa Claus, that is her legacy. I absolutely love my Mariah.

Easy on me (98,744) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
My all time favourite artist of all time is, obviously, Mariah, but I love Celine, Whitney, Anita Baker, Nina Simone, Chaka Kahn, all the "big voiced"-ladies. The only one who can be compared to these ladies the last decade, looking at you Ariana, is Adele. She doesen't have the register, but her voice is sublime and so soulful. I was really looking forward to "Easy on me".

"Easy on me" has, at least what I have read, got universal acclaim from music critics. And I have to admit, it is a solid song, quality, easy to listen to, true Adele, not at all what music sounds like generally today. But let us be real, I can't say if this was released from her debut album, 19, her sophomore album, 21, her third album, 25, or her latest album, 30. "Easy on me" is like all Adele songs blended together.

In reviews of Mariah's "Don't Forget About Us", critics talked about Mariah hitting a creative wall, the song was too similar to WBT, too similar to everything she has done. I just can't understand why most critics are not making the same point about Adele's latest effort. Adele has clearly hit a creative wall, the song is boring, nothing new, no excitement, no bravoure, it's just Adele. I'm really disappointed. I have listened to "Easy on me" two times, and I think it will be the only two times I will ever listen to the song.

I wonder, why are music critics, and the general public alike, so crazy about this song? Is it because music these days is just manufactured mainstream bubble gum pop/rnb from Ariana, Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift, that an old school jam from Adele is all the world needs to just praise her as a genius?

How come a generic piano ballade, quintessential Adele song, with nothing new to offer, get so much praise?

Why concert in NYC 1993 was the best (98,579) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
There is nothing much to say. Has there really been a moment in Mariah's career that a concert has been released without it being dubbed?

Mariah's Music Box Tour concert at MSG in 1993 is the only example we've got of a whole concert of Mariah not being dubbed, it's just Mariah and her voice, and personally, I have never heard her better, or seen a human being belting out that many difficult songs back to back with perfect pitch for one and a half hour.

That concert is what I'm going to refer to if anybody else in my future life ever questions Mariah's talent.

The Rolling Stone Charts (98,464) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I every now and then check the Rolling Stone Charts to see which artists are the most streamed in the US, and obviously looking for where Mariah is at any given time. I know the charts don't represent the world streaming patterns, and if anyone here can give me a site to go to where I can check worldwide streaming numbers, please tell me.

Mariah has since the Rolling Stone Charts launched been somewhere around the 200's, but during Christmas, she has peaked at #4. While I'm looking for Mariah, I also look for Brittney, Whitney, Celine, Madonna, Beyonce and Adele, the women artists I have the most respect towards. Interesting is that Beyonce and Adele's streaming numbers are decreasing, but Brittney and Whitney charts where they're usually charting, Brittney often a bit higher than Mariah, and Whitney quite a bit lower than Mariah. Celine and Madonna have always charted, although very low, but when I checked today, they didn't chart at all.

My question is; I have a concern that Mariah is being forgotten by young people, more than Celine, Whitney and Madonna, and I also have friends who tell me this, that Mariah will be a forgotten artist by the next generation, if we are not talking about AIWFCIY. But why are Celine and Madonna cashing in on tours, getting huge crowds willing to pay good money to see them in concert, but not streaming them while they are at home?

Has Mariah become an artist that people stream at home, maybe without people wanting to admit it, but nobody wants to see her live in concert? Why aren't Celine and Madonna amongst the top 500 streaming artists in the US, but people flock to their concerts?
