About Otti from Belgium: I love bodybuilding and Mariah Carey!

Happy new year (48,914) by Otti from Belgium
Personally, I think it's not necessary to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her debut album or 25 years in the music business. I prefer for Mariah to work with CD singles. You know, release a single song is better than releasing a whole new album. Since the music industry is all about trends and image she has to work with a good producer and feature with a hot name, then promote like there is no tomorrow. Once she is back on top of the hot 100, then release a second single, and later a whole album. Ofcourse with hot video clip (like Honey, Heartbreaker). I remember when [...] came out, some people thought she was a new artist. And that is what we need. Start from scratch. Mariah has left manny projects like MC=E2, MOAIA, MIAMCTEC. Albums with potential hits, especially MC=E2 [...]. One more thing. I would not mind an album like [...], you know, with all the number ones, with some new tracks, and some covers. I remember when Ones came out. It was my chance to know Mariah better, I never had heard songs like Someday [...].

(Always be my) baby from Sweden (48,758) by Otti from Belgium
I have to say one thing I really love reading posts of B from Sweden. She nailed it everytime, with every post. It's reality, you can say it better than me. Just what I think, and you say it. You can see through the madness. And also that avatar picture, nice choice. From the Butterfly era.

Haters (48,726) by Otti from Belgium
I can be verry objective. I'm a fan of Mariah since Butterfly. And for me she has the right to lipsyn or miss a note. She is human. And I am thankful, for the way she keeps making music and performs. Since I know Mariah, I feel people always trie to count her out. But she keeps coming out on top. And that is also a reason why I keep supporting her. Like I said, she pays the price because she is still relevant. Why are the haters always comparing her to a younger generation like Beyonce and Ariana? If you want to compare singers than do it equal. For an example: Ariana 21 year old and Mariah 21 year old. At the same age, Mariah had four consecutive number one singles on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, from her debut album.

Signature song (48,721) by Otti from Belgium
Personally I think having a signature song is not that positive. It means like you are known for one big song in your career. It's like Toni Braxton has "Un-break my heart", Celine "My heart will go on" and Whitney IWALY. And if Gotye can't do better, than it would be "Somebody that I used to know". Signature song means you are a one hit wonder. Which Mariah would never be known for. Note: I know people who know Mariah by the song Heartbreaker. Even more "I'll be there" is one of her songs that's very popular here in Europe.

Songtitels missing (48,662) by Otti from Belgium
Why are the songtitels in my last post not visible? "Can't take that away" and "Through the rain".

They can try, but they can't take that away from me (48,657) by Otti from Belgium
I read someone's post this week on this board, that Mariah is not the same as she once was, and she's not the same girl that wrote songs like [...] and [...]. What would you do, if people are dragging you down, the last half year at least? Are you gonna release an album? Are you gonna do a tour? Are you gonna sing on the Rockefeller Center? Do 6 Christmas shows? Then songs like [...] and [...] come to my mind. With lines like "They can try but they can't take that away from me. Try to bring me down but I refuse to fall and I can make it through the rain, I can stand up once again." These songs has now I think for Mariah more meaning than ever.

Fans (48,636) by Otti from Belgium
I love reading posts of Jon from the Netherlands and Baby from Sweden. It's like they both know what it is all about. Bringing the right facts up, sharing their feelings about being a fan, and most of all, being thankful. I want to say something about the signature song, because we are talking about MC you can bring up 2 songs, one ballad and one more up tempo. And leave AIWFCIY out. I'll Be There and Fantasy are also verry popular over here.

We all know this is not her best year (48,625) by Otti from Belgium
The "problem" here on this messagesboard is that some fans are defending MC, because she did already so much for us, from the '90's til now, we never really had to miss her. Between studio albums, there was always another album. MTV Unplugged, Merry Christmas, Number Ones with new tracks, The Greatest Hits, MCIIY. She writes her own songs wich her fans can relate to. Mariah is always being honest about her voice, and that she needs rest to sounding good. And now seeing the media putting her through hell because her mic falls down, or because she misses a note is so painful for someone who puts her all in to her work. We all know that there is a problem with her label, marriage, her weight, her insecurities. Like I said before, give her a break. I know we want the best for her. With her talent, voice, writing skills, her looks, here is so much more to come.

Hate the game not the player (48,607) by Otti from Belgium
It's nice to read different views from fans. I was thinking, this is not the first time that Mariah is going to a turbulence of critics. I remember so well the "Glitter" era. Everything she did was wrong, the movie is a flop, the album is a flop, radiostatioins were not playing her music, she was called insane, and blabla. But still she was strong enough to manage and give performances around the world. But this time is different, it feels so rare that even fans are complaying about everything. What Randy said. I could not say it better. Beyonce knows how to play the game, that to me it seemed all fake. She is always positive to other female artist, every other female artist is in her eyes beautiful and gorgeous, she is always kind. On the other hand, I feel for Mariah, since she saw the day of light as a singer she is compared to other singers, Whitney, Toni, Christina, Leoan, Ariana. Mariah is in my eyes really brave. Does she has a label or manager at this moment?

Randy (48,589) by Otti from Belgium
I loved reading your last post. You appear to be a very nice and an intelligent person. The problem with MC is, she is still relevant (comparing to Celine, Janet) and that makes her after 24 years very vulnerable in the eye of the public. Everyone is wachting with eagle eyes, is she giving a concert, making a video, releasing a singel or album? It's like people are waiting for her to fail. Can you imagine if she stopped after TEOM? Then she was at the top of her game, even her USA tour was critically acclaimed. At that time she was only 36 year old. And now she is paying the price for being relevant. When was Celine Dion her latest Hot 100 appearance? Or Janet? Mariah did appear with #Beautiful in 2013. But on the end she has nothing to prove. And after all this years I think she is still underrated. Beyonce sings (I mean talking) Drunk In Love and she got a Grammy. Mariah sings her lungs out of her body and no recognition. Nowadays everyone can get a Grammy, no matter what you sing, how you sing. You can talk, use autotune. Beyonce is by the Grammies so overrated, I don't get it.

Randy (48,569) by Otti from Belgium
1. MJ was also acting "eternal 12", but he is a legend. MJ and MC said once, if your childhood was tough, then you gonna stuck there.
2. Thank God I Found You was a numer one hit because the predecessor Heartbreaker was number one, then it's easier to have people and radiostations waiting for the follow up single. The fans buying the singel plus airplay is number one. Why wasn't "Can't take that away" number one? Because it's popular by the fans. Like I said you need more than fans and lambs to have a number one hit. Randy can you define "signature song" for me? Do you need as an artist a signature song?
3. Glitter was a flop, because Mariah was broken hearted for Miguel, as a fan you should have know. Don't forget 9/11, since it was also the release date.

Randy are you serious? (48,539) by Otti from Belgium
1. Her hits are not hits? Do you think that We Belong Together is made number one by only the lambs for 14 weeks? I'm sure TEOM was a huge hit because not only of the lambs or fans. To stay 14 weeks at the top of the Hot 100, you need more than fans. The radio has to like you, the listener, people in general has to like your song. 2. Signature song? You can't put Mariah in a box. She sings a ballad, but she also likes to sing hip hop songs. She said once that it's boring if she only sang ballads. I'm sure that a lot of people can sing along with songs like Hero, We Belong Together, Fantasy, My All. The reason she is underrated is that she is youthful, sexy, succesful, the voice. Do you see Celine sing Touch My Body like MC did? Or the late Whitney?

Fan (48,527) by Otti from Belgium
I knew Mariah since Music Box, my oldest brother was a big fan, and back in 1993-1994 Without You was a big hit in Europe. But I became a fan since Butterfly. I remember when I was with my cousin, sitting home, watching MTV when the video of Honey came on tv. We were surprised that Mariah, who we know from songs like Without You, Hero, Endless Love, I'll Be There, is sitting with high heels and black short skirt tied in a chair, then jumping in a pool, to reveal that hot body in bathsuit. And I was like wow, singing ballads, then hip hop, she can do it both. And the hip hop community accepts her. What I want to say is, she can stand there in a long dress singing Love Takes Time and change up to a more sexy look and sing Honey, like it's nothing. And that's the reason why she is being hated. She can do it all. Something her generation can't, I'm talking Whitney (RIP), Celine, Janet.

Mariah Carey is one of a kind (48,521) by Otti from Belgium
Last night I was watching some performance Mariah did back in 2010 for Merry Christmas II You. And what came to my mind is how some fans can be unthankful. Mariah spoild us the last 20 years with many albums, 2 Christmas albums. Vocal performance like only she can do. If she is in a good place, then she is in full force. When MCIIY came out, she was pregnant. And I loved how she promoted that album. Her voice was on point, she looks verry happy and healthy. She even gave us a performance with her mom (I really love that song). Also when #Beautiful came out, she did at least 3 or 4 remixes. She did a lot of promo fot that song alone. I hate when people forget all the things she did. And start to hate. I can say, I'm really grateful for what she did in her career already. For me she has nothing to prove. That's the reason she did the Asia and down under tour, because she still enjoys respect in that part of the world, no matter how old she is.

Haters gon hate (48,303) by Otti from Belgium
I saw her performance of All I Want For Christmas Is You (Rockefeller 2014), can someone tell me what's wrong it? It was live and not bad at all. The hate needs to stop. It's easy to hate. It reminds me of school, when someone bullying on someone and the rest follow with no reason. At her worst still better than others in their best. The voice, sexiness, writting skills, number ones, global star. It's not the first time she is being hated for what she is, remember the Glitter era?

The voice of a generation (47,229) by Otti from Belgium
I think people are overreacting here on this board. Give this woman a break please. We all now that this era is not the best. I hoped that this Asia tour would turn out positive and make things better. Yes indeed she don't sounds like in the 90's, and I don't expect that, look at Whitney or Celine, they don't sound like the 90's either. And I think Mariah has a more fragile voice, what makes singing harder. She went on this tour in Asia, just because she is still respected and loved there. I think it's hard being Mariah Carey, everytime she does something bad, people are ready to bring her down. [...]

Tokoyo (47,155) by Otti from Belgium
I just saw on YouTube some snips from her concert in Tokoyo, and what I've seen was not bad at all. It was at least live, no lipsnych or autotune. Some parts were even flawless and some were bad and that's normal if you sing live and have a career of almost 25 years. I'm verry proud of Mariah that she had the courage to take the stage at this point of her life. Being in a divorce with two kids is not easy. I have to say that she looks gorgeous. And guys don't forget Mariah her songs are f*cking hard to sing, even for her. Jetlag, lack of sleep, stress, kids makes singing harder. Her voice is not to compare with any other female singer. She can't hide behind autotune or dance music like Gaga or Katy.

Ariana Grande (46,857) by Otti from Belgium
If you take a look (listen) to Mariah Carey her catalogue, from her very begin until now, you can tell that Mariah is a true talent, her written and singing ability where beyond her age. Ariana Grande on the other hand is just an imitator of Mariah, and she does it well, without no soul, realness or rawness. Her style is just like Mariah was in the mid nineties. She is so fake. Not so long ago I saw a video of her on YouTube, where she was imitating Shakira's voice and Britney's voice. At the same age Mariah was singing for an adult audiences and setting standards with big ballads like Love Takes Time, Hero, Without You.

I still believe (46,489) by Otti from Belgium
Nice to bring this up. I always loved this song, and the video. I think it's one of her best video clip ever. The concept, her style, her beauty. Although it's a cover, she owns it. She sings it like she did write it. It was a huge success in the USA, it went platinum. I was so glad that she gave the single a full treatment at that time. When the album #1's came out, and I heard the song between her older songs, I always thought that it was an old song of hers, from her first 3 albums, because I didn't knew those albums at that time. Until I saw the video on MTV. Number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, not bad for a cover. But I love the vocals, especially the fading part on the end, true emotions, like she sings it for someone special. Mariah Carey is still so underrated.

Just saying (46,410) by Otti from Belgium
She looks healthy on that video of TMZ, she even reminds of her performance at Pavarotti and Friends when she sang My All (heck Yout\Tube). It seems like this album is dedicated to Nick. The song "You're mine" is about Nick, especially when she sings "You make me feel our love would never end, how can I forget baby we were the best." Every fan knows the best songs of Mariah are the ones about her personal life. Mariah's music has soul and personality to it. I think it's sad that they compare Ariana Grande with Mariah Carey. Ariana is an imitator of Mariah, but she forgets one thing. Mariah, writes, produces her own work. It takes more than beauty.

Sales (46,146) by Otti from Belgium
When they state more than 200 million albums sold, than is it because Mariah Carey albums sold every second, you know. When they state 250 million than it is more specific. Remember in 2005, when TEOM did well on the charts, her back catalogue start to sell even more. Ex Mariah Carey the greatest hits and the remixes begun to sell even more than when they were released. Even more every year around Christmas time, her Merry (2) Christmas albums and single AIWFC start to sell again. So it's no lie that she is one of the best selling female artist ever. With timeless classics songs and albums under her belt, fans or not fans still buy her older music.

Re-release? (46,132) by Otti from Belgium
I think it's the rarest era ever, since I can remember. But then she is touring Asia with this album. What means she did not give up on this project lately. So why not, when she got everything on point, re-release this album with a few new tracks and remixes? And promoted like it's all new. With interviews, talkshows, performances. Maybe with a new coverart for the album. And tell us her story, so people and her fans understand what went wrong behind the scene. It's Mariah, the voice, the talent, the beauty. She got everything to stay relevant. Many singers out there have the sexiness but lack of talent.

Absence of Mariah (46,081) by Otti from Belgium
I remember when Mariah released an album, she was always in full force. You saw her everywere, talkshows, magazines, awards shows, radio. But with this album she did an appearance in NYC, the opening of the World Music Awards (but it has never been broadcasted), a tv interview with Matt Lauer, and then left the album for what it was. No videos, not talking about the album or songs, no interviews, no performances, no communication to the fans. That's not the Mariah that we used to know. But we asked for it. She was not ready for this album to be released. It's not her second album that we're talking about. She spoiled us with many beautiful albums the past 25 years. Give her a break. I know she is coming back like she always does. You can tell when she released the single #Beautiful last year, she was in shape, made a hot video, did several performances, she was in a good place. And #Beautiful went platinum.
(Sunday 17 August 2014; 2:57)
MIAMTEC (46,030) by Otti from Belgium
The problem with this erea is that Mariah wasn't ready at all to release MIAMTEC. Although she was ready in 2013, but then she had that shoulder injury. If you take a look to the coverart of MIAMTEC and her performances at The Today Show 2013, she looks the same there. But due to health issue she gained weight. Everyone was complaining that she looks different in real life, and photoshopped on the coverart of the album. Mariah wasn't feeling right, that's why she postponed the album release date serval times. And when the fans get mad, she felt under pressure and suddenly she did promotion a month before the release, using pictures from a year ago. Everything in a rush, you can see that she was not that happy. And left the project. You can't expect from Mariah to make videos, perform or do promotion when she is not feeling comfortable in her skin. She is human. At least the reviews for MIAMTEC were one of her best in her career. Her promotion team didn't even pick on that.

Katy vs Mariah? (46,026) by Otti from Belgium
It's unthankful that someone like Katy Perry, who can't sing, makes music only for kids (that's why she is popular, it's the biggest market), thinks that she is in a place to bring Mariah down? I want to see her 25 years from now. If you take the autotune out of her songs, there would be no kid on this world to buy or listen to her music. On the other hand, she uses the same blueprint that Mariah once made popular. Who worked first with Snoop? Mariah did Crybaby featuring Snoop in 1999. Who worked first with Kanye West? Mariah did work with him on TEOM. So respect the master.
