The only negative fans are the ones too fragile to speak the truth (47,156)

I'm really negative about Mariah at the moment because her decisions for the past four years have been shocking, disappointing, offensive. But this is completely irrespective. "Stick with her?" I love her for what she has been in my life. But she can't sing anymore. Anthony was spot on with "amateur karaoke". I would love her to prove me wrong. But then I want her to not drink so much and look after her vocal cords, I want her to not airbrush everything and to lose weight If she wants to look thin, I want her to record songs in a register she can actually sing in now, I want her to put on shows that don't involve a chaise longue and standing next to trey Lorenz, I want her to not make her only PR doing embarrassing things like wearing a dress into a subway for a photo, I want her to write relatable universal songs do that everybody can relate to them and not have to pity Mariah's feelings or have to 'really know he in order to comprehend, I want her songs to not be so heavily produced that they lose all hook and simplicity. I want her to be an artist I can respect. I totally agree with Anthony's comments about being "mortified". I can't hold my head up high and scream about her like I used to. She's embarrassing. And it's her fault. So tell her like it is or keep kissing her ass and watch her fail. It's only getting worse. Perhaps it's time to bow out and not damage the legend. It's happening.

Don't you know we won't make no more apologies We're not getting no sympathy All we're asking for is no lip-syncing We heard half this before When we played the CD's Oh it isn't fair Your voice is not right But if your cords are shot Shut this sh*t down tonight If it's over, if it's over

Listing lazily to the left (46,964)

List people list. Rage against the machine. 1. "I would shower you with love and drown within your soul." 2. "Still I feel like a child as I look at the moon, maybe I grew up a little too soon." 3. "And I, truly inspired, finding my soul there in your eyes." 4. "And after all these years of enmity, envy and years, it's a shame you don't know me at all." 5. "Thunder precedes the sunlight, so I'll be alright." UK bonus track. "No no no no no no, don't worry, don't you ever fear, I'm by your side, don't worry, don't ever be lonely, it's alright." Shakespeare in song. The title of the list is your to make. Doesn't have to be boring. Right? artyn, you are awesome as you are passionate. And the rest of you, list. List against the machine. "I don't care if I keep saying it over and over." I may hate a lot of your comments. Love is.

List like you've never listed before (46,944)
by Andrew from UK

Considering that everybody posts on to a site where one sole person decides if he likes what you have to say in order for it to be shown to everyone else, this probably isn't the place to talk about "freedom of speech". Most first world countries have freedom of speech within a legally permissible framework. You siding with someone saying lists are "boring" and stoking an us-vs-them battle is immature at best. That's how infants try to make people like them. People are writing lists to express joy at their idol at a time when there's really not much reason to express joy. Let them write lists. Let them eat cake. List people. List. "Never ever listen to anybody when they try to discourage you; they do that. Believe me." List list list. Tick boom.

I would give the world away (46,484)

The Time article is poignant. And it probably goes to what realistic fans feel. We didn't buy everything and follow Mariah based upon the records, awards and titles. They were just a qualification of why our taste and ear was true and qualitative. The virtues which we extolled due to the amazing pop genius, truly resounding tone, vocal ability, lyrical genius and creativity, wonderful and humble personality had a defense in: "See. Look at the success. It's real. It's f'ing amazing, witness it. Feel it. Listen with me. Understand." Now every song, every album title, every nuance ("the fans will understand this line") is not sellable. People miss accessible music with an accessible persona and genuine talent. Mimi worked. Imperfect Angel? Fell into the "know-my-story" rubbish that people left behind. Elusive Chanteuse is beyond. The general public don't listen to Mariah Carey music anymore because, to listen to Mariah Carey music, you have to invest heavily in her story. You all debate her life, her divorce, her marriage, her kids as if it enlightens you as to her music. Great. But that's why she doesn't sell anymore. She is isolated and inaccessible. The Time article is really poignant. It's not selling out to give the people what they want. It's selling. People listen to good music without wondering what someone's pain is and "oh do we feel for them". It's not that I miss the records and awards. I miss it being... jaw-dropping and simple.

That rainbow's end (46,408)

I think the reasonable among you probably understand that Mariah can't go on forever, and doesn't the end feel nigh? I think most things could be forgiven but the endless lip-syncing is now a global joke. Does anybody believe she really hits these notes in the studio anymore when she struggles to get an octave lower when she actually does pop a live note out? Don't question my fan status: it's a little "argumentum ad hominem". I've followed Mariah all my life. My point is this: it has to stop sometime, for her sake also. Is the amazing legacy not being damaged now? There is absolutely no sign of anything changing and yet "next time she'll do it, next time she'll be good". It's becoming a very familiar sentiment. Having said that, I just watched A Home For The Holidays from 2001. Never Too Far/Hero and I'll Be There. Loved that era - was when I first moved to University in London. Absolutely loved it. I miss the singing, the look, the presence, the "accessible" music, the "non-elusive" (ie. cared about her career) Mariah; the Mariah that would interview and be sweet and funny and not recite dreary rehearsed lines in monotonous, fake accents. Really good memories. Check out Mariah presenting The Friday Night Project and tell me you don't wonder what went wrong and when ax.

"That rainbow's end" (46,363)

I think the time has come that we, Mariah Carey fans, have to accept that a lot of things are over: the stellar music career is at an end; the voice is irreparable and preventing live performance of even a whole song; her popularity has disappeared to the point of barely being able to chart; the sympathy for her - which was the building blocks of her career from Looking In onwards - has gone. And now her marriage. I never thought I'd say it: should we not rationally debate, as fans, whether it's time for her to do a "goodbye" era? It may be better for her and everyone can move on. *Remembers a childhood spent listening to Mariah whilst staring out at the ocean and is reminded that all things end.* Teenage me would kill me for saying this. Everything ends.

Back up (46,336)

Okay I don't like Nick Cannon. Never have. Especially when he constantly says "my wife" instead of "Mariah" as if he has something to prove. However, Nick and Mariah's marriage problems do not, all of a sudden, mean that she should be more respected for the disaster that was MIAM. Nick didn't cause her to release terrible videos, release the worst song on the album as a single, hire yes-men as managers, [censored], lip-sync badly, guest-star on her own songs, make wearing a dress in a subway the only promotion or an album you spent years on, neglect the fans.

This project is already dead in the water. She's even talking about it since 2011. So far there's been one disaster after another: 1. Jenny Craig (really superstar stuff) 2. Home Shopping "moments" 3. Same-old tired and lipped concert performances in Oz, Morocco etc. 4. AI (comes across as arrogant and aloof; fighting Nicki Minaj, then calling Barbra Walters? Tell the teacher as well?) 5. Triumphant (out-of-date sounding flop; rapper-only verses objectifying women and boasting of lamboughinis? Groundbreaking.) 6) Almost Home; no promo at all? She was on television twice, yet hardly mentioned it. What was the point in doing it? Two consecutive singles not charting on the hot100. Fans need to really wake up and start being realistic about how this career is crashing due to no-one else but her bad career decisions. We all deserve better. This is going to be worse than Memoirs. I that possible. She won't ever recover.
