About RibbonB from USA: I love Mariah's Music.

Rick Nowels producer (65,046) by RibbonB from USA
Now this is a type of producer Mariah should work with. All those wanting MC to work with Lana Del Rey, should look to this guy, who has produced a lot of her work. He has been putting out great records for a variety of artists for decades. I was reminiscing about Anita Baker's Body and Soul, which he co-wrote and thought about him. He knows his way around a song and likes to write classic ones tailored to the artist he works with. He is one that works quietly and impressively. JD is great for a couple of songs, but M. needs to find a real quality and versatile collaborator who can play instruments.

Re: Article: "American Idol" contestants react to Mariah Carey (65,035) (65,037) by RibbonB from USA
Yes, you said that about belittling the word abuse. Dahlink, she reallly must tone down the divahhh ahntics it's so ahbusive to her fans. Lol. Maybe she should switch to oppressive if she must be that dramatic, or like you said just move on from it.

Re: Anita (65,031) (65,034) by RibbonB from USA
I forgot to add that Anita "You Bring Me Joy" is so amazing, as is her "Body and Soul". That song slays me everytime. She is long overdue a new record. Since you like old school R&B you might go check out Phyllis Hyman or Angela Bofil, those ladies are amazing. The were doing the big vocal R&B diva stuff way before Whitney, Mariah. They are like the 70's and 80's foremothers of modern R&B big ballads. Or check out their "Unsung" episodes on YouTube. There may even be a Bobby Womack Unsung episode as well. That is a behind the music type show that focuses on R&B artists. Not sure if you know about it.

Re: Hozier / Brittany Howard (65,031) (65,033) by RibbonB from USA
Yes please let me know which Hozier songs you like. Sedated is my fave along with Work Song and To Eden. Look for the Work Song video it is kind of sexy in a way. And yes, the line "corny like fritos" from Mariah is not a stone winner. I don't know what she was thinking with Infinityyyyyyyyyyy.

Here is that NYT review, there is another one out there too, but this really hits on stuff.

Re: Mariah reminds me a lot of Aretha (65,013) (65,018) by RibbonB from USA
The truth will come to the light I am sure. You must read Respect, it came out a year or so ago. Google the New York Times review of it, it encapsulates a lot of what I was talking about. There are so many talented yet troubled divas. The bio really digs into Aretha's life and song writing and her contribution to music. The writer has receipts as he wrote excellent bios, on legends like Ray Charles, and Marvin Gaye and he has years of interviews. The parallels to Aretha and her family compared to Mariah and hers is staggering. There is love and closeness, yet great distance and distrust at times. Aretha was also very competitive with other female singers of her time. She could be generous, but cutting if you crossed her. Lol. It is called Respect by David Ritz. And yes, Miss Patti is truly unique and gifted though not one of my top faves.

Re: Will the real MC please step to the mic? (65,015) (65,017) by RibbonB from USA
Thanks I respect your opinions too. We both and most of us really just want Mariah to be ok. She picked this route, I hope it is not too perilous. Thanks for reminding me of those articles.

Mariah reminds me a lot of Aretha (65,010) by RibbonB from USA
That is both a good thing and a bad thing. Aretha's biography called Respect is an amazing read, though not approved by Aretha. It is by David Ritz I believe, the same writer who wrote the authorized sanitized bio years before. That book was boring. Years later he released a book including things he really wanted to address. Aretha led an amazing life, but came from a tough background with lots of unspoken sorrows as one producer said. That is probably what helped her soulful singing delivery in addition to her natural talent. But in the book her long time publicist revealed that Aretha had a tendency to manufacture stuff, to plant stories and even to imagine things that were not true. I am not saying they are exactly alike, but there are some parallels in the two with their talent and how they deal with fame. Many people even the most talented are not satisfied with that, they want to stay in the public eye and be perceived a certain way, even if it is not always true. No judgement, just an observation. Aretha, Mariah, Chaka and Sade are my faves, I always say, but there is usually a lot more to the people behind the music. I hope Mariah lives a long illustrious life and maintains the musical respect like Aretha despite the extras and the questionable fashion sense that they both share. Lol.

Re: Will the real MC please step to the mic? (65,008) (65,009) by RibbonB from USA
That sounded good my friend, but it sounds like she wants to be a dolphin swimming amongst the sharks. We know how that can go. But hey, the real MC might actually be a top sea predator coming up from the deep to swallow up the lesser species or something. Lol. Whatever her thought process is, she seems in it to win it, for the money, the fame or whatever. Strangely she needs none of that. Even stranger, neither does Packer allegedly. But a lot of people who are estimated worth this or that, actually have far less than that in their bank accounts and a lot of projections are far from reality, not to mention the heavy overhead Mariah carries with all the hangers ons and handlers. And people with money can still be greedy or insecure and thirsty for more. I might agree with you if she hadn't done so many stunts leading up to the release of this series, but her actions make her seem a little desperate and thirsty IMO. The other people I get it, even though I don't watch any of it. They make a real come up when their shows succeed, Mariah's is a comedown no matter how I look at it. Big, big risk with marginal reward for her. There is more to this than meets the eye IMO.

The View (65,000) by RibbonB from USA
It was funny to see the ladies of the View try to figure out why Mariah is doing this reality show. They played the clip. Only Raven was really excited to see the show. She doesn't care if it's a train wreck. The other ladies seemed a little or a lot concerned. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. I hope it ends well for Mariah, all things considered.

Re: Human chair (64,993) (64,994) by RibbonB from USA
Yeah I thought I read this and that M called them a human chair. It's just some over the top concept of luxury. I'm sure she will get lots of over the top reactions from the general public when they see it, if they see it.

Re: WTF (64,991) (64,993) by RibbonB from USA
I think she said they all represent a human sofa. This is the lady who is carried in on a chariot or whatever by her male subjects. The whole thing is over the top. The whole Complex cover makes her look like some kind of devilish dominatrix, but any racism is just subliminal if that. The seat may be a place of honor to her. Lol. Listen, this whole era needs to be decoded.

Yeah, the only reason I would really watch a Mimi reality show is to see her family and those wonderful children do not need to be shown on her circus. I hope it's very sparingly.

Nigel American Idol shades MC (64,961) by RibbonB from USA
Lol. Nigel Lythgoe threw Mariah back a little shade when he was asked about her comments on Idol at her press thingee. He said this "I'm looking forward to Mariah's new series and wondering if Nicki Minaj may guest," the ex-executive producer tells Billboard.
Lol, could be possible, people were talking about the Stellar connection to producing Nicki's TV show.

The show (64,943) by RibbonB from USA
MW is shown having the December 4, date on the E website and M was out in Hollywood doing upfront promo for it. She is even trending on twitter right now. I will say, good luck and I hope it is not as bad as many including myself predicted. The short footage of the kids was adorable.

Re: Hozier / Brittany Howard (64,932) (64,940) by RibbonB from USA
Wait, what, Womack? Wow. I love some of his music, obviously "If you think you're lonely now wait until tonight". Mariah gave up a lot just sampling that line for WBT. Womack etc. got co-song writing credit, for little or no lyrics, but that is a memorable song. The whole copyright sampling thing is a delicate and expensive issue either pay up front, or be sued and pay lots later, especially if it's a hit. Anita Baker is so smooth, she is a winner. But Hozier is one of my favorite of the new crop of singer songwriters, especailly of the males. I love James Bay too. Hozier has this very deep soulful, troubled quality, also vulnerability. I would love to see what he and MC could do, especially with those vocal arrangements. Of the new ladies, I adore Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes. Taylor got record of the year, when it could easily have been the Shakes. Brittany and Mariah could have some really cool, edgy and otherworldly collaborations too. "Sound and Color" is another record that I keep on repeat even after a couple of years. If Mariah could start writing the right songs, she could easily have her music in more movies or TV shows. Both Brittany and Hozier are getting a lot of play in both those arenas after only one or two records each.

A Street Car Named Desperate (64,925) by RibbonB from USA
Stella. I wonder if she is panicking right about now. Probably not. I wonder if Mariah is actually paying her a percentage for her services. Someone said Mariah's old team was draining her dry and that at least Stella has her own money. But Stella and her crew are also being towed around at great expense for MC. In addition, Stella must be getting her hefty "management" fee, not to mention all the salaries her family is earning as Mariah's accountant, and other various handlers. I can't imagine why Mariah wants or needs all of this and why Packer would want this either, but it's all just so weird, so until the next act.

Re: Hozier (64,900) (64,905) by RibbonB from USA
Yeah his CD is definitely worth having. I had it on repeat for months after I bought it. Take Me To Church was an instant classic, but other songs became my favorites. His voice is quite hypnotic. He also has an ecclesiastical singing background which comes out in his songs. That is a very interesting element he could also bring to working with Mariah. The vocal arrangements could be amazing, yet singable live. I have heard he has a Christmas song out or coming out for some movie and it is said to rival AIWFCIY in modern Christmas song classic potential. I have to listen to that.

Aww (64,894) by RibbonB from USA
This breaks my heart. These are actors, but the other people's reactions are real. There are many examples of "What would you do?" on YouTube. Just illustrates my point that we all see things and react differently. At least most of us anti stellars on MCA are reacting from a sincere point of concern for Mariah and her kids.

Edgy music - Hozier (64,885) by RibbonB from USA
If Mariah wants to go the route of modern edge, she should consider Hozier. He is a really great songwriter and he has the substance edge down pat. I actually love his song "Sedated" even if I don't love the sentiment about a drug user and his girlfriend who can't seem to leave it alone. Hozier is an excellent story teller and his music is good. He is Irish and she is part Irish, so there is that. This tidbit won't help any potential collaboration, but he has done an interesting cover of Ariane G's 99 Problems and made it sound better than her version. I would love to hear him and his band cover at least one Mariah song. Besides Sedated I love his song Jackie and Wilson, so the guy really knows some R&B too. He is also excellent at packing a lot of words within a song, but in a very musical way. M. still likes to pack her songs, but her melodies could use a little work of late. IMO.
