Re: The Netherlands (89,637) (89,646) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Yes, and Madonna once and for all proved she cannot sing. It was one of the most cringe worthy performances this century.

Congratulations Webmaster for winning Eurovision.

Don't steal other people's quoats, Andrew, Mariah wouldn't have liked it.

Cannes Film Festival (89,628) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Many here might be tired of all the gowns Mariah wears, but she is rarely on "worst dressed" lists anymore, and I actually think it's a very good look for her and age appropriate.

The gown she wore at the Cannes Film Festival was just absolutely amazing, she was shining. I think the Billboard Icon Award has done wonders for her confidence, she's nothing less than radiant.

I think the rendition of Vision of Love was beautiful at the end, never heard I that way, so classy.

When I became a fan (89,619) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Wow, suddenly this board got a positive vibe.

Honey was my first impression, but Divas Live 1998 was when I became a fan, still have the reccording on VHS.

I remember the commercials, VH1 advertized with Emotions, and I got goose bumps by the whistle tones. After the show, I was a die hard fan, and the rest is history.

Who here is a digital engineer, or computer scientist? Could you please make that board? For us all? Now? Please.

New start (89,604) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Hey, I agree with most here, but should we try to start over, like Mariah did with Charmbracelet? Why don't we start and tell each other the very first memory we have about Mariah? We don't say what we don't like about other's memories, but are free to explore the memory.

I start: My very first memory was when the Honey video came out. Funny, because I didn't like the song, but loved the video. Today I absolutely love Honey, the song and the video. I think you can say Honey brought me to Mariah.

Nonsense (89,565) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Us arguing about Madonna has come to the level of us argueing about Mariah. Can all the Madonna fans take their sh** to a Madonna Archives board, please?

Let's be honest, a 60-year old in teen clothes is never sexy. Look how classy Mariah have become, beautiful gowns with sexy slits, what an act.

I doubt Mariah will perform in a bikini when she's 60. But what do I know.

Madonna BBMA so called performance (89,548) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Ok, so I took a look at Madonna's performance. First I will say that I don't share the same hate for Madonna as many Mariah fans do, I love some of her songs. As a child I listened to Cherish, Like a Prayer and Vogue, I have respect for her. But as I have said here before, I actually think Madonna has an anti social personality disorder.

I honestly think her performance was horrible. It was like looking at my own mother trying to be sexy and flirtatious. The performance was cringe worthy.

Mariah made the venue into a church, the roof lifted under Hero. What is Madonna trying to express with that song? Really?

Mariah BBMA Icon Award speech and performance (89,544) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I have been offline for a month, and didn't even know Mariah recieved the Icon award until yesterday. And wow. Her voice sounded amaziing, low key and strong, no doubt about it being live. She ownd the stage.

The speech brought me to tears. After all the negative press the last few years, she practically rose like a phoenix, I don't think a single person can say anything negative about Mariah that night.

She has helped bringing me through difficult times. She had so much integrity. She made it tabu to not like and respect her. What a woman. You deserved this, Mariah.

Memoirs (89,080) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Yes, she should publish her memoirs before possible legal action with her medical information exposed. Keep ahead of time, tell them your story, then nothing will bring you down.

Re: Reception (88,975) (88,978) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Yes, Andrew, your opinions are completely objective, while my opinions are completely subjective. What you are saying Mariah is depended on, is quite normal for people to be depended on. If Mariah drinks to much wine, or smoke some weed, that is totally normal.

In the case of other superstars, the dependencies have become so severe, they have become clinically depressed or died.

So, Andrew, how come you have turned in to this person who believes he is the holder of the truth, and firmly believes that other people who believes differently are delusional.

Re: Reception (88,952) (88,967) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Anthony, I couldn't have said it any better myself. Thank you for the elaboration.

Just to add something to your elaboration. I think the reason why people are starting to appreciate Mariah, is that she is on the level of Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Prince, Madonna, and other greats without having turned her life into a selfdestructive mess. Just think of all the others that has been eaten up by their own success, Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain, Justin Bieber, Demi Levato etc.

She has stayed away from drugs as coping mechanism, and she hasn't developed an anti social personality disorder like Madonna.

People have critisized Mariah for her divaness, crazy statements, too lavish lifestyle. But I think people are starting to realise that Mariah is one of the few greats that has actually her sh*t together, and her personality has pretty much stayed constant after the late 90's. I think people now think it's an achievement to just be alive considered her level of success, and if that means that we have to listen to crazy statements, witness cooky and odd behaviour, a bit too much chardonnay, well that has just become charming compared to the alternatives.

Reception (88,948) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Since nobody here is talking about how Mariah is praised in almost every review, then I will.

I'm so proud of Mariah when I read the reviews, even though she's not the energetic live artist most superstars are, I think it's very nice to see that she gets the recognition she deserves. Mariah has actually turned into a critics' favourite. When she was here in Oslo three years ago, all the reviews in the newspapers were just so wonderful to read.

Mariah has turned into solid live performer with solid concerts.

Re: MOAIA (88,923) (88,928) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Obsessed is maybe the one Mariah song I almost can't listen to. Yes, the message is fierce and the video is fun, but the song is ugly and doesn't sound good when performed live.

Daydream (88,889) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
What I like about Daydream is the whole package. Her voice was on peak, I don't think it has any bad songs, my favourite deep cut, Underneath the Stars, is on it, the lay out is classy (she is sexy in calssy way on Butterfly, but on Daydream, she is classy in a classy way), it just feels so cohesive, the whole album and the videoes, it's solid work in every way.

Since the Daydream Tour is her best tour, no question about it, the concert in Tokyo Dome is my go to live perpormance whenever I want to enjoy a masterclass in singing.

I became a fan during the Butterfly era, but Daydream has come to be my favourite piece of work by Mariah.

Dividing the people on this board into two categories is too simple. You have many people in between the two stereotypes you just made up, and I am one of them.

Re: 40 million on YouTube views for Caution (88,659) (88,666) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Seems like many here, including the webmaster, think you can compare sales today with sales 20 years ago. Besides Adele, there aren't really many albums that have sold on a Music Box-level in over a decade.

Albums today don't generally sell as much, just a fraction really. So for Mariah to sell 200.000 copies of Caution in this stage in her career, it's not bad at all. Remember both her last two albums sold less. So it's actually a turn to the better with Caution.

I must agree with some here, I believe Caution is the best album of her career. Her older songs are the ones I'm listening to the most, but I'm proud of Mariah and the universal acclaim she has gotten for Caution.

Re: A No No getting no airplay (88,548) (88,551) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I agree with you. You can go to Spotify, and look how many people are listening to Mariah each month. There are more people listening to Mariah than to Madonna. Of the 80's and 90's female music stars, Mariah is one of the most streamed on Spotify. I don't remember exactly the figures, but Mariah has more streams per month than Madonna, Janet, Toni Braxton, but I think Britney, Celine and Whitney have slightly more listeners than Mariah, but the streaming numbers are almost the same.

Of course, Mariah can't compare to Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Adele or Demi Levato. But if you look at Beyonce, she has much bigger numbers than Mariah, but then again, a lot less then Taylor, Ariana, Adele and Demi. So Beyonce is also experiencing what you are talking about, her popularity has started to decline. She had a good run though.

As for female artists, old or young, Mariah's Spotify streaming numbers are decent, cementing her legacy. That I think, is a barometer for success these days.

Re: A No No getting no airplay (88,543) (88,546) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Would you rather see Mariah in concert, or listening to her on the radio?

She hasn't had a hit since #Beautiful, all her singles after that have been flops. Is then A No No a flop, if a flop is the standard? No, A No No is the best single and video Mariah has released in years, for us fans to enjoy. I don't think many here think that Mariah will have massive hits again. I don't even think Mariah her self thinks that.

So, if I understand you correctly, a new single, a cool new video, a tour, is not enough for you. She has to be everywhere, omnipresent, in the US and in Germany at the same time, on every magazine cover and on every talkshow. Don't you think Mariah her self is a bit tired of this? Don't you think Mariah herself is enjoying her millions of dollars, while still have the opportunity to express herself through music, getting the critical appraisal she has deserved for years?

This is not enough, is it, for you?

Tell me, what kind of standards do you have for your own life? I hope you are busy doing everything you can possibly do to get the most out of time. I guess you don't have minute to spare, succeeding on every level in your life.
