Mariah Carey officially leaving American Idol

Mariah Carey is officially saying "so long" to American Idol (and Nicki Minaj) for good. This afternoon, the diva took to Twitter to confirm the news, after months of rumors. She retweeted a post from her publicists, which said: "With the global success of #Beautiful (#1 in 30+ countries so far), Mariah Carey confirms world tour and says goodbye to Idol."

Carey's time on Fox's singing competition was largely characterized by her feud with fellow judge/diva Minaj, sparking her husband Nick Cannon to speak out on the matter earlier this month. On LA's KTLA-TV, Cannon, opened about the pair's fighting, stating that his wife "didn't sign up for" the cat-fights. He also said that he believed that that things could have been mended between the two divas much earlier in the season, but "someone behind the scenes was perpetuating" their issues.

Idol staple Randy Jackson also recently announced that he'd be leaving the panel come next season - since then, daily reports have surfaced that Fox is looking to not only give Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj the boot - but long-time producer Nigel Lythgoe as well.

The confirmation also comes just a week after reports emerged that Idol execs were on the hunt to replace all of the current judges with former contestants, notably Jennifer Hudson and the show's first winner, Kelly Clarkson. Last week, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Hudson had entered final negotiations to settle into a judge's chair - as of now, there hasn't been any confirmation as to if her deal is dry or not.
