Mariah loves the Latin style

Latino culture has invaded every nook and cranny of the United States. And that includes the exclusive catwalks at the New York fashion shows, where it's no longer unusual to see models - many of them Latina - strutting to the beat of conga drums and pulsating horns. Whether it's in the pages of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue or the showrooms of Madison Avenue designers, Latinos are changing the very face of fashion in America - not that our influence wasn't always present.

That carefree, devil-may-care attitude may not always translate into high style, or the perfect of-the-moment look, but give these Latinas credit for originality and for wearing - first and foremost - what makes them happy. "Mariah Carey once put on a pair of pants that looked like a Dali painting, and I told her 'Oh my God they're going to kill you if you wear those pants'," recalls Bloch. "And she said 'I don' t care, I love them'. This happens because she identifies with Picasso and Dali. I believe that Latinas whether rich or poor, have all been raised around art, music and nature. Look at how Frida Kahlo has influenced Salma."
