Mariah on "Extra!" - the transcript

Last Monday, Mariah was featured on "Extra!" and here is the transcript:

Leeza: And now, the couple that is reigning over Spain’s pop music charts. It’s American songbird Mariah Carey and Latin heartthrob Luis Miguel. They are making beautiful music together without even singing a note. Doug Ruffner has the Extra Exclusive.

Doug: You are looking at an Extra Exclusive. Footage of sexy diva Mariah Carey and her love, Latin heartthrob singer Luis Miguel in Spain.

Mariah: I’m in a very good place in my life right now. I feel very blessed.

Doug: And in more ways than one. The multi-platinum pop queen is riding high again. Finally free of her ex-husband’s record company, Columbia, Mariah just signed a record-breaking deal with Virgin, for a reported twenty-three million dollars per album.

Alan: This deal puts Mariah right at the top of pop’s biggest money earners.

Doug: And Spin Magazine’s Alan Wright says Mariah has a recording rival: Janet Jackson. Miss Jackson of course, is Virgin’s other pop queen. And she’s reportedly fuming. Mariah’s deal is twice as fat as rock-hard Janet’s.

Alan: Will they get equal attention? Will they get jealous of each other if one has a bigger hit and the label pushes that a little bit harder?

Doug: Mariah will soon be pushing something else, too: a movie. In a somewhat autobiographical film, Mariah plays a pop star in the lead role. And she came to Spain to record the soundtrack.

Mariah: I like singing in a place where I can sleep and relax and where it’s not so crazy.

Doug: Not until she actually tries to go anywhere. On this night, Mariah could barely get to her love Luis, who was waiting for her on this yacht. Her bodyguards got her their safely and it was worth it. She later step off the yacht wearing a gift from Luis: a Van Cliff and Arpells bracelet reportedly worth 1.5 million dollars. The same bracelet Julia Roberts borrowed for the Oscars.

Mariah: I’m just thankful for everything that I have in my personal life and in my professional life. [laugh]

Doug: But Spin’s Alan Wright warns all good things could have their downside.

Alan: The movie has been pushed back and changed titles. The movie can be a setback if it’s really disastrous.

Doug: Wright says Madonna has survived bad moves and movies, so it can be done.

Mariah: I would like to do more acting. And I’m looking for my fans to hear this soundtrack and see the movie.

Leeza: More talk about Mariah and Janet. Janet Jackson apparently has more on her mind then Mariah Carey’s record deal. Jackson tells a German publication she spends a lot of time thinking about sex. She also says her upcoming album is loaded with explicit love making references.
