Mariah and Patti duet on "Lady Marmalade"

Pop singer Mariah Carey will join soul legend Patti Labelle on stage tonight for a rousing rendition of Labelle's 1971 original tune, "Lady Marmalade". The performance is a part of BET's Walk of Fame program, which is honoring the diva for her contribution to the music world.

Patti broke out as a solo artist in 1977 and hit the R&B Top 20 with her signature version of "You Are My Friend", a song she co-wrote. In 1984, "New Attitude" from the "Beverly Hills Cop" soundtrack was one of her biggest single hits, and "On My Own" (with Michael McDonald) later that year no comma needed was even bigger than that, ensuring Patti's mainstream appeal. Once anointed, Patti didn't stop there. Sister Girl rocked Live Aid, won a Grammy in 1991 (and an NAACP Image Award), starred in her own sitcom ("Out all Night", '92), sang with Sinatra on "Duets II" (1994) and wrote an autobiography (1995's "Don't Block the Blessings").

Four decades later, Patti Labelle is on the verge of answering the Ultimate Question: "What becomes a legend most?" On October 30, (9 p.m. ET ) she will be honored with a star on BET's Walk of Fame. Patti wouldn't say this, but we will - it's about damn time. What kinda "do will she be sportin"? What's she gonna wear? Will she sing? What will she say? As always with Patti LaBelle, expect the unexpected.

Many thanks to MCWNO.
