Mariah Carey - "It's like that"
Oh, it's like that, is it? Just to keep you guessing about which musical cul-de-sac Mariah will turn down next, this song is comprised of about three different halves (work that one out, maths monkeys). On the one hand you've got Mariah sighing over some stark hip hoppy beats and a melody that sounds like it just fell dying out of an Egyptian-made calculator watch. All good so far.
Then, they spoil it a bit by sliding out the big R&B production trolley for that smooth-as-silk chorus. Then it's back to the cheap and chirpy Egyptian bit (yay). And then right, Fatman Scoop comes in and shouts all over the damn thing. What the hell is all that about? We don't know. And frankly, we could do without finding out. Way to ruin a perfectly good melody though, folks. (Top of The Pops)
