Mariah Carey - It's Like That review

It seems strange to be actually talking about Mariah Carey's music, which seems to have become rather peripheral in the light of her diva exploits in the last few years. Indeed, most recently she insisted on a candlelit red carpet to welcome her and her entourage at a Knightsbridge hotel at 2am.

Musically it's a while (two years) since she did anything, and arguably much longer since she did anything good. It's Like That, however, is the best comeback song she could have hoped for - sharp, to the point and crisply produced by Jermaine Dupri, which explains the occasional Janet Jackson similarity. With little to no vocal histrionics, and a good cameo from Fatman Scoop, it's a good "going out" record.

"I came to have a party, open up the Bacardi" coos Mariah. Well, just make sure the glass is diamond encrusted, and that she foots the bill at the end of the night.
