Mariah and friends head for Capri
My grandparents had pictures of themselves on the Isle of Capri in the '50s. It looked idyllic back then. But the party is over. Next week, dozens of record industry execs are headed there to be guests at the wedding of L.A. "Antonio" Reid, the new head of Arista Records. And not just execs are going. Lots of artists including Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds and his movie-producer wife, Tracey.
Meanwhile, the soon-to-be former head of Arista, Clive Davis, will be yachting in the area. Davis is about to leave for his annual summer tour of Italy. He will most definitely not be doing the Hora at the Reid wedding.
Then there's Mariah Carey and her boyfriend, singer Luis Miguel. Fresh off her near-naked appearance on the World Music Awards, Carey has been frolicking with Miguel on Capri's wonderfully white beaches. Press accounts, attributed to no one, claim that she's busy recording a new album there. But a Columbia Records source says that no one has any knowledge of Carey doing a new album. Her last album, Rainbow, is barely off the charts. So why do people think Mariah is recording when she's really on vacation? Can you say tax deduction? Hey, Mariah, just kick back and relax.
