Mariah Carey shows some skin on SNL

Apparently, Mariah has become an unabashed embarrassment to herself. She recently replaced Janet Jackson on SNL and, needless to say, much hype was built because Mimikins hadn't performed on the show in over ten years. Unfortunately, she dressed like she was ten years younger, too. Carey wore a tiny skirt that showed off her well-toned legs, but was it really necessary to wear a skirt so short that her panties could be glimpsed?

She has garnered quite a reputation for wearing clothes that are a little too small for her voluptuous frame. Her stylist really needs to grab a hold of her. It's possible to envision her in a few years, 50 lbs heavier, squeezing into spandex, like a certain famous old school soul queen who will go unnamed. But, I guess when you're a diva, you can do whatever the heck you want, damn the consequences.

Mariah Carey is known as one of the best vocalists of her generation, yet the material she's singing now seems trashy compared to her early singles. With current songs like "Touch My Body" and "Migrate", it seems she has seriously lowered her standards on lyrical content. In the early 90's, Mariah was primed to be the next Whitney Houston, particularly after the golden Butterfly album. Then, by the late 90's, she veered off onto the road to self-destruction, which so many promising artists seem to take. Odd incident after odd incident kept being reported about the chanteuse.

Recently, Mariah Carey spoken candidly about her low self-esteem and her need for a "famous" partner. She's slimmed down a bit, but it's rumored her weight loss has been caused by the use of an unsavory white powder. Can an intervention be performed with Mariah, much like with what happened to Whitney, to return her back to the glorious singer she was? Let's hope so. The world is in need of true songbirds.
