Celine gets her name back

Celine Dion has won back her domain name. She sued Jeff Burgar, who used her name to re-direct visitors automatically to Celebrity1000.com. Recently, Bruce Springsteen lost a simular case and that's why the Canadian singer and her record company Sony Music Entertainment this time brought the case before the The U.N. World Intellectual Property Organisation.

Arbitrator William Cornish said that Jeff "must demonstrate positively a legitimate interest in retaining them (the domain names), as for instance by providing an established fan club, or, for that matter, a site for criticism or satire. It is for him to show that the new use of the site is substantial and genuine." He was unable to demonstrate this and that's why the domain name was awarded to Celine.

Last year, Mariah Carey sued Jeff Burgar also before a federal court in Las Vegas. She won the case and Jeff and his partner Justin Lumsden, who operate and manage General Webgroup and Internet North, had to relinquish all rights they hold in the domain name MariahCarey.com. They had give the name back to Mariah and forbade them to use any domain names that bear "Mariah Carey" or intentional misspellings of the name "Mariah Carey". Now there is a flourishing website of Mariah herself on MariahCarey.com, which she uses to interact with her fans.
