VH1's "Great Debate" seeks answers on great questions

VH1'S new series "The Great Debate" asks the tough questions, like: Whitney Houston versus Mariah Carey: Who's the best diva? "For my money, I have to go with Mariah," "Debate"-er and comedian Chuck Nice told the Daily News. "Because anytime you have a slight mental meltdown on MTV, then follow it up with an episode of 'Cribs' where you are on the stair climber in a pair of Manolo Blahniks, you're not only the winner, but you've stolen my heart."

Nice's colleagues on the show will include Brooke Hogan, DMC (of Run-DMC), Gilbert Gottfried, Sir Mix-a-Lot, Hulk Hogan, Jerry Springer, Ray J, Omarosa, Salt-N-Pepa, Tila Tequila, Statler and Waldorf, Shanna Moakler and Perez Hilton. The celebs will go head-to-head with a smattering of real Ivy League debate teams on topics such as: Boxers or briefs? Best Van Halen front man? Does disco suck? And choose a side - Angelina or Jennifer.

The show is hosted by professional boxing and wrestling ring announcer Michael Buffer. VH1 will kick off five nights of "The Great Debate", premiering Monday at 10 along with an event in New York that night hosted by Nice called "Ivy League Throwdown". In this matchup, students from Harvard, Yale, Columbia and the University of Pennsylvania debate "Best Week Ever's" Pete Holmes and Amy Schumer on "Who's more Bootylicious: J.Lo or Beyoncé?" "Greatest Band Ever: The Beatles or the Rolling Stones?" And "Who would you call to save the world: President Obama or Will Smith?"

"If you loved the 'I Love the '80s' series, then you'll like this even more," said Nice. "It's not just a trip down memory lane. You have a vested interest in the discussion. Everybody's on one side or the other. If you're not with me, you're against me!"

"The Great Debate" is produced by the same people who did the series "I Love the '80s". "Watching the show, stuff you never thought you cared about suddenly becomes important," Nice said. "You get a little caught up in it. I heard myself saying 'Backstreet Boys? Oh my God, they totally blow away the Jonas Brothers.' Like, wait, what did I just say? But if you're a pop-culture junkie, you've already participated in these kinds of arguments," said Nice. "Superman versus Aquaman? There's no right or wrong answer. It's all subjective, but the most cogent case will win. It just depends on how much time you spent in your parents' basement and at what age you finally moved out."
