Susan Boyle set to break records

Susan Boyle looks set to achieve the highest first week sales of a debut album in the UK. "I Dream A Dream" has sold 130,000 copies on its first day - more than the rest of the top 5 added together. As reported last week, Susan has already broken the record for Amazon pre-orders. Although these pre-orders do contribute to the huge first day figures, insiders still predict sales will reach 400,000 by the end of this week, and surpass the record of 375,000 set previously by Leona Lewis.

After performing the first single "Wild Horses" on The X Factor on Sunday evening, the single also looks set to enter the top 10. However this week's number one position is likely to be taken by a non X Factor related artist for the first time in 6 weeks. Peter Kay's official single for Children In Need has a 17,000 lead over the number two position. Meanwhile Mariah Carey's cover of "I Want To Know What Love Is" - which she also performed on The X Factor on Sunday, amongst a string of other top TV shows, is struggling for a position in the top 20.

Lady Gaga's album re-issue "The Fame Monster" looks set to make a strong top 10 debut, while Rihanna's and Mariah's new albums are just outside the top 10. Greatest hits compilations are aplenty in the run up to Christmas, with new packages released yesterday from Janet Jackson - which is inside the top 30, and Britney Spears, which is top 40.
