About Scott from USA:

Mariah never lied or let anyone on (105,893) by Scott from USA
Randomly I watched "The First Vision" again last night. Let's just talk about how good that was. Her talking about herself was the highlight. I followed it up by watching a recent interview with Jennifer Hudson. Was interesting to see the contrast (and how stiff she seemed recently) but also that in the recent interview she spoke about the same reference point of pointing out when her mom hit the wrong notes. Old Mariah is still in there but wow has she changed.

O Holy Night (104,519) by Scott from USA
I have to say, with Brenda going number 1, what's really to stop at sometime some of Mariah's other Christmas hits going number 1? O Holy Night and others probably deserve that spot as well. Phenomenal vocals.

Re: Oh Mariah (96,803) (96,810) by Scott from USA
Mariah's in front because it's supposed to be Supremes like. She's the Diana. Well, she wrote the song, it's her special, etc. I also liked the Sleigh Bell part. So camp and fun. Also respect that she's owning her vocals. She's not trying to make it perfect in every song. In my opinion, some song's vocals were better than others. All I Want for Christmas Is You was great. But I keep listening to Oh Santa! I hope it is a hit. Certainly has gotten more views quickly on YouTube than some of her other songs lately.

Surely they are taking the piss. I hope so. But with the amount of bad Pop Idol, American Idol, Australian Idol, whatever idol auditions I've seen, who knows. The comments of support on that vid, whoa.

Re: Another take on the voice (95,178) (95,215) by Scott from USA
Interesting point, but I think there are a lot of people with extraordinary voices that are able to preserve and keep their voice in good form. That said, sure, everyone's voice is different, but I do feel there's more to it than that. As for the athletes, yes, we will marvel and appreciate the heights of their career, but imagine if they were still competing in their current form. Sadly, they would be hounded by the public. This is what is happening to Mariah and I think that's just the way it goes. I for one can appreciate her voice has changed and still enjoy mostly.

Yes, very much agree with this. Feels like trying to get one up on someone by throwing a shady insult. If you wouldn't like it coming your way, probably best not to do it back. Personality traits are very different to mental health issues.

Re: M's memoir (94,623) (94,626) by Scott from USA
How am I wrong? I'm not saying Mariah hasn't been inspired by rnb, I'm asking a question based on something she said back at the start of her career about what she was more inspired by.

Whitney was booed at the Soul Train Awards back in 1988 for what some considered her being too white.

Re: M's memoir (94,621) (94,622) by Scott from USA
Yes, agree, but she did make a point early on in her career about what music she was really inspired by, which leaves me somewhat confused when she ended up going very rnb. She was way more inspired by gospel rather than rnb which makes me think, was this true or just something she was made to say. Whitney was made to be "white" at the start of her career, which we all know wasn't a true depiction of herself.

Mariah's memoir (94,620) by Scott from USA
Mariah said very early on in her career (First Vision), that she was way more inspired by gospel than rnb. Walter said years later that she listened to rnb 24/7 and her music was always going to go that way. I've always wondered if she always did love rnb and if the record company just made her say certain things at the start of her career. Maybe the memoir will clarify this.

Lyrics (94,040) by Scott from USA
Okay here's a stupid topic, feel free to shoot it down, but does anyone know of any lyrics in Mariah songs that don't match the album book lyrics or just any lyrics they don't understand in general?

I always thought the first chorus in My All sounds like she sings "just one more night with him", rather than "you".

Also never been certain of an ad lib in Honey "gotta have another taste". Is that right? Think the subtitles on the Around The World Tour day she sings "love thy saints" or something. I don't think so.

Re: Ariana Grande butterfly tattoos (94,002) (94,007) by Scott from USA
I think while we all know a butterfly is synonymous with Mariah and is part of her trademark, it shouldn't mean that a butterfly tattoo or a like for butterflies is off limits for anyone else. Don't think she can claim a butterfly as her own.

That said, we all know Ariana is a big fan, so who knows, maybe it is related, maybe not.

Barbra Streisand has an album called Butterfly from many years ago, way before Mariah, although she didn't go with the butterfly symbol after that like Mariah did.

Re: #Justice4Charmbracelet is 18 on iTunes (93,924) (93,925) by Scott from USA
Charmbracelet, not the best in my opinion, but definitely not the worst. You've probably said before, but what's the best album in your opinion? Personally Charmbracelet has some songs that I love, but not a cohesive album I think.

Re: Mariah (84,476) (84,498) by Scott from USA
I'm one of the reasons she's become lazy? Can you and a lot of the other people on this board please grow up? As I said before, everyone is entitled to an opinion, but too many people here think their opinion is the only opinion. Insight needed. I think I'll make the wise move of abandoning this message board. It's become ridiculous.

Mariah (84,447) by Scott from USA
Well, everyone is entitled to an opinion. Mine is that With You is a great song. Very heartfelt, sang beautifully. I love it. If people don't like it, fine. But lighten up. There's certainly songs I haven't liked of hers recently, but that's alright, no big deal. Some people on this board are sounding like a bunch of Tommy's, wanting Mariah to do exactly what they think is best for her. If you don't like the song fine, but tone it back on the negativity and relax. Poor Mariah really cops it, she always has right from the start.

Nodules (47,332) by Scott from USA
Did anyone ever stop to think that maybe she did have surgery on her nodules and that's why her voice is now the way it is? Perhaps similarly to Julie Andrews the surgery didn't work and caused irreparable damage. Otherwise, why wouldn't she have the procedure now? Because apparently the nodules helps her to hit the high notes? I would prefer tobe, quality of voice and mid/belting register over those high notes. For me, her tone and belt was what set her apart from the rest. You'd think these qualities of her voice would be more important to her also. So perhaps the surgery's already happened and that's what she's now left with. Just a theory.

Mariah owing Sony (36,763) by Scott from USA
How exactly does Mariah owe Sony anything? I'm sure Mariah is thankful for Sony helping support and launch her career, but I don't think that means she owes them. They got what they wanted out of her. It was no secret that they thought of Mariah as a franchise and a way of making money for them. She certainly helped them with that. When she began to develop as an artist and branched out into RnB, Sony were worried about it. Sony hoped that after Butterfly she had the whole RnB thing out of her system. Then she started working on Rainbow and continuing down her creative path and further developing her artistry. I think they hoped she'd go back to being the Mariah they had created, the one that would may have assured some more years of huge sales such as with the Music Box and Daydream albums. Mariah's albums as she developed her creative path began to sell less albums, but so what? As she said herself even when making the Emotions albums she didn't care if it sold less than her debut. To her I'm sure it wasn't all about sales but being able to express herself the way she wanted to musically. Her struggle came with not being able to release the music she wanted to and not being able to be her own person, something Sony were holding her back from as they were more interested in keeping the franchise bringing in the big bucks. Now tell me who owes who? Does Mariah owe Sony or does Sony owes Mariah for forgetting that she too is a person and not just a cash machine?
