About Darren from .: Second Coming of Mimi, let's make it happen y'all.

Not happy (105,442) by Darren from .
As someone who is in the 18-24 demographic, I can say that generally, we are very open to any good music, no matter if the artist is well-established or new. The only problem is Mariah is fully promoted as a legacy artist now - and at a very specific time at that (Christmas). But take the Caution album for example - the songs itself have hit potential, it's just that the team picked the wrong singles and the promotion seemed a little lacking. The way I see it, Mariah is back in the good graces of the public, seeing how well-loved even her AI cover of the JT song I posted earlier (it is currently on its way to blowing up on TikTok), as well as just how often her back catalogue blows up on TikTok. Her songs still resonate with the public and it shows, and the public even loves her current voice (see my point about the current AI cover that is blowing up - the AI model was made with Mariah's current voice). As long as her team plays their cards right and Mariah stops being so wooden on the stage, I believe a top 10 hit might be in the works, in the shape of a catchy midtempo R&B song that our Mimi seems to love so much.

An AI Mariah cover of JT (105,432) by Darren from .
I know it's controversial to post or talk about AI-generated content, but this just reminds me of Caution album so much and honestly? Mariah's version fully outdid the JT original version. She sounds so pretty here, even though it's just AI.

Re: 8th Grade (94,243) (94,249) by Darren from .
I see it, but I think the title kinda relates to the mindset of the "voice" she's portraying in the song. The lyrics are as if they were written by someone with this indecisive, flimsy, kinda timid mindset, a lil bit like an 8th grader. I think Mariah was trying to harken back to her middle school days with the cig reference too. It might be a little bit of a reach, but it kinda makes sense to me.

8th Grade (94,239) by Darren from .
Can I just say how much Mariah struck gold with this song? Ever since Caution's release, it never left my regular playlists on Spotify. The melody is beautiful, Timbaland's production is impeccable, and Mariah's vocal performance is subtle, yet still packs a punch. I love the classic Mariah sound it has infused with lil twists here and there, truly one of Caution's highlights.

Re: Millennials (91,624) (91,661) by Darren from .
I think I vaguely remember WBT as being my favorite song when I was around 5 or 6. And back then Obsessed and TMB were really big hits so I grew up with those songs, but the song that made go all "oh shit" was #Beautiful. Been a lamb ever since.

AIWFCIY's chart position next week (91,609) by Darren from .
Early predictions say that she's gonna go number 1. I can't believe this. She's gonna end the decade with a number one, and open the next decade with a number one. Legend tingz.

Hi, Gen Z here, born in 2000, and very very much in love with Mariah.

BBMA's (89,470) by Darren from .
Words cannot express how much I'm so proud of Mariah. Her performance, her speech, everything, even the interviews afterwards. Her performance had hiccups, it had some mishaps, she obviously wasn't in the best shape vocally, but she pulled through the whole thing like a champ. It wasn't about her vocals anymore, or how she looked, or how she acted. For that whole performance, we were all united by the music, the nostalgia, the awe that comes with a career and a talent of this magnitude, and most importantly - how resilient she is. This isn't a celebration of a successful, flawless idol; this is a celebration of her redemption. The free humor, the humility, the humanness; that's why we fell in love with Mariah and her music. Truly an iconic moment.

AIWFCIY hitting a new high (87,337) by Darren from .
I couldn't believe it. It defied my expectations of it not scratching the top 5. I did say it could hit top 5 at first, but seeing the chart predictions, they all predicted it would peak below the top 5. Turns out we didn't only get a top 5 peak, we got a top 3 peak. This is amazing. What a way to end the year. By the way, happy, happy new year to all of you. May all of you have another year of love, light, and happiness.

Re: Caution drops to #163 on Billboard 200 albums chart (87,011) (87,022) by Darren from .
If they wanted a commercially successful album, Mariah would've loaded the album with more tracks (although that would compromise the quality of the album). Her team would have staged a rollout campaign aggressively focused in streaming services, like Spotify and Apple Music. They would have to release the singles with the most recognizable features as the lead (a wise choice would be a remix of A No No with Cardi B and Lil Kim, which I'm still waiting on despite of my dislike of Cardi, followed by The Distance). The bundles that she did was great. Nowadays, you have to focus on streaming. We in the under 18 and 18-24 group don't really listen to the radio anymore, although I would say that radio is crucial for longevity. For the initial debut though, streaming is where it's at. I do get the feeling that her team's main focus was damage control, a subtle image change (notice how all the interviews have been centered on her songwriting, how she toned down the shade and usual diva jokes?) and critical acclaim, and they didn't have any expectations for commercial success. But yeah, I gotta agree, Mariah's hit making days are pretty much over (I hope she proves me wrong). And I don't have a problem with that. Not anymore.

AIWFCIY at no. 7 (86,981) by Darren from .
Y'all this could actually reach no. 1 this year. It debuted in November. November (all caps). Then it went on to reach the top 10, at its highest peak thus far, and we're barely even have 2 weeks in December. Ari's Thank U, Next is definitely a pretty strong no. 1 (congrats to her, a no. 1 is difficult to get, not everybody has that) with the video being a massive hit, but with AIWFCIY continuing to gain in all metrics, plus the massive streaming numbers it will get in the days approaching Christmas and Christmas itself, it truly does have a chance. Y'all in the US, please stream, stream, stream. Don't forget that paid streams are weighted more than free streams. But at this rate, a top 5 placement is definitely guaranteed. I would even say that a top 3 is a guarantee, especially with the rest of the top 10 being quite weak. Let's go lambs.

Caution's commercial performance (86,979) by Darren from .
On one side I'm bummed that the public didn't embrace the album as much as I wanted to, but on the other, I'm just happy Mariah released an inspired, cohesive body of work. Caution is already in my list of favorite albums, and I'm glad that even though she didn't achieve commercial success with this one, she got the critical acclaim that she gets way too little in her career. I'd rather have her release 3 flop albums that are critical successes than 3 huge albums with dud songs.

Re: GMA (86,258) (86,281) by Darren from .
She did though? The performance was clearly live, save for a few lipped lines at the end. What she did was piece together two performances together, which is unnecessary tbh, she sounded great in the audience video.

With You on GMA (86,229) by Darren from .
This was a stunning, subdued performance. I could even say that it's 99% live, from the belts to the airy vocals. She sounded well-rested, slightly raspy, and there's a nasal quality to her voice that I actually like a lot. The only thing she lipped was possibly the last sustained run "with you booooooy with you, with you, with you, with youuu" but she even did the climax nearly completely live. I'm so proud of this performance.

Caution vs MIAMTEC (86,104) by Darren from .
I feel like this slightly like debut vs Emotions. The highs of Emotion doesn't quite reach the highs of the debut album (aside from The Wind), but the debut album is less cohesive than Emotions. This is a similar situation. The heights of Caution doesn't reach the heights of MIAMTEC (so far, no song on Caution could beat Faded, Make It Look Good and YDKWTD for me), but MIAMTEC is a far more cluttered album, with too many fillers stuffed in it. Caution is a more concise, cohesive album than MIAMTEC.

Caution (86,038) by Darren from .
Hands down, her best body of work in more than a decade. The album's sonically more experimental, less formulaic than her usual, yet still preserves the Mariah signature sound. The album is cohesive and concise, the hooks are strong without being too in-your-face, and the productions great. Her voice no longer sounds as artificial and engineered as how it sounded in MIAM. I should note though, her whistles here are used really sparingly and in a way I have never heard Mariah do before. For example, in 8th Grade we can hear her whistles being chopped up and reversed, making it an actual part of the music instead of an additional embellishment. I do have to say though, Caution is not as melodic as MIAM. However, it more than makes it up by its cohesion and experiment. I've never heard Mariah do a song like Giving Me Life before. The album feels current, fresh, and inspired. Very impressed with it. (You know something's good when you go "Mariah? Mariah this is a serve" with nearly every song lmao.)

Favorite tracks (in no particular order): GTFO, With You, Caution, A No No, The Distance, Giving Me Life, Stay Love Love You, Portrait.

Re: Album bundles (85,244) (85,252) by Darren from .
I agree wholeheartedly. This team really isn't playing around. I actually love that they're going with the standard promotional plan, because it has the least risk and it's pretty much a tried-and-true formulas that has always worked. Album bundles? Check. Cover art reveal? Check. Promotional single? Check. A performance at a big awards show? Check. High profile TV appearances? Check. With Mariah's recent commercial failures, it's wise to just go with the traditional rollout instead of going with more unconventional album release strategies that would only work with artists with a great fanbase and support from the general public. The only thing I would wish is that they push The Distance into pop and urban radios and With You into AC radio (I think they did this already?). The Distance really is a great single, probably her best single since #Beautiful. And maybe book an appearance at the MTV EMAs to perform the song, or another award show, or daytime TV. Will she be offering tour ticket album bundles? That's the most effective album bundles ever. This era will be her most successful era since 2008/2009, I could feel it.

Team Mariah (85,241) by Darren from .
I gotta say tho, this team has been doing wonders. They really promoted her with the same gusto they would do to a promising new act. Did y'all remember the mess that was Infinity's rollout? One of my least favorite moves that her old team always made was constantly mentioning Mariah's accolades, achievements, etc, and to be honest, to the younger demographic, it makes her feel old to us. Like she's this untouchable relic from the past. Constantly mentioning her 18 no. 1 hits were not doing any good for Mariah. Now, her team doesn't even bother mentioning it. They're booking her at the right places, giving out the best rollout campaign she's ever had probably since TEOM/E=MC2, and I'm lovin it.

The Distance (85,214) by Darren from .
Damn, the more I listen to it, the more I love it. I've been listening to it nonstop and I didn't feel obligated to. Whereas I Don't, I was playing it on repeat just to support Mariah. The Distance, this song has been on a loop in my head all day all night, I hum it without even thinking, it's a good sign yo. She gotta get that Clear Channel radio deal to push this song even more, I could see "hit" plastered all over it like those pink tapes over the album cover before the reveal.

The Distance (85,033) by Darren from .
So far, my favorite track off Caution. I live for the current sound, mixed with her signature Hip-Pop sound. Ty's feature also sounded good. One of my main criticisms of the track is that it lacks buildup to a good climax, leaving it feeling like it's unfinished. A nice bridge after Ty's verse would've completed this song nicely, or perhaps the chorus, sung stripped down before the final hard-hitting chorus. But overall, again, although not her best, it's a respectable addition to her extensive repertoire.

Caution plus Go the Distance (85,015) by Darren from .
Go the Distance sounded like a full-blown bop. Love the more current sound, although from the snippet, her vocal stem sounded too "dry" for my liking (With You's vocal production sounded better). I've been loving the snippet so far though. I think that Caution will be an album geared more towards the younger demographic, and I don't know if it's a good thing or not, but so far, I've been liking all the sneak peeks to the album.

AMAs (84,680) by Darren from .
I was so deeply disappointed by the performance. We're not talking about pre-recorded or dubbed vocals here. We're talking her literally standing still on stage, singing the first little run live, and then just sticking the main studio vocals over the music. Mariah, your voice was fine in iHeart Festival. Your voice was completely fine in that first line. We all know you could do it. This is her laziest performance to date. I don't even know if this could be considered a performance. I could handle 3 takes of the performance pieced together. I could handle partially pre-recorded performances. But this one? Damn Mariah, this is the most wack shit you've done this year. Anyone could stand there, look pretty and mime to the mic. I sincerely hope her team is working to clean up this mess because chief, this ain't it.

First of all, I don't appreciate some of y'all blasting Mariah's clothing choices and videos by slut-shaming her, calling the videos "prostitute-style" videos, or her high heels "prostitute shoes", calling her "trashy" and stuff. It's misogynistic, and incredibly disrespectful. It's her body. And y'all have absolutely no say in another person's choices. I could never understand how people could be so casually sexist in a public messageboard without any form of guilt and remorse. You don't like how she dresses. Fine. You don't like the style of her videos. Fine. But never, ever, ever slut-shame someone, no matter how famous, just no. Some of y'all can take a page from this_is_qhm in how to criticise and express your opinions without being disrespectful.

Second of all, well, this is a bit lighter, but I don't understand why some of you dislike the swearing. Some of the best songs I've ever heard has swear words in it. Personally, I just thought that the swear words in GTFO and With You were kinda out of place, because of the atmosphere of the songs she released, but I have no other problem with it. Do you just dislike swearing in general, or is it just specific for these two songs?

With You (84,284) by Darren from .
It started off completely gorgeous, with loads of textures, an understated beat, and her signature airy vocals. It does drag quite a bit in the middle though. However, towards the end, she unleashed her whistles and belts, which picks the song back up into a stunning finish. It's what I would call a classic Mariah song. For some reason, it reminds me a lot of her songs in MOAIA, combined with a little of DFAU. Overall, again, not her best, but nonetheless a respectable addition to her repertoire. I could already feel the song growing quickly on me even on my second listen. It's not necessarily something new or experimental from Mariah, but this time, her formula doesn't feel tired.

GTFO (83,770) by Darren from .
For me, it's a step towards the right direction. I looove the chill R&B vibes and how muted everything is, yet still retains that signature MC sound. It's def not her best, not an instant classic, but a huge step forward after I Don't. She managed to making cussing so pure and angelic. I hope that With You would be in the same vein, but with more dynamics and with more lush melodies. 8/10 for me.
