Become a better artist (52,818) by StrangePilot from USA Personally, I hate top 40 music. Hate it. I stick with Mariah because I feel she makes interesting choices with her vocals. However, I really dislike all of her music in the past few years. Not because it's bad, because it's the same type of music she's been making for the past 15 years. My advice for the Mariah team is this. #1 Don't have an album cover with Mariah's face or body. Not that she doesn't look good or is not pretty, but like Oprah, seeing yourself on every cover is boring. She should have an artist draw something cool. #2 After the Vegas stint, quit the nostalgia. No more about when I was younger, how hard life was, and stop doing your old songs, especially your 18 #1's. Yes it's an amazing accomplishment, but time to move on. #3 Stop working with the same producers. Not that they suck, but it's time to experiment and try new independent producers that can create a new sound for Mariah. #4 And this is probably most import. Make an album that features your current voice. Maria's tone is so beautiful, that she doesn't have to hit the high notes in her regular voice. Sure, still hit those falsetto notes, but in her regular voice, hit the notes that you can only sing live. So in fact, you can sing them live. #5 Clothes, and this is a big one too. Dress sexy, but not slutty. You can get a new stylist. It's time. And it's time for Mariah to make better music. Stop with the same old sound. Forget the past, go for a new future (42,045) by StrangePilot from USA I understand why Mariah has chosen to do these latest round of songs. Ultimately, they are safe. Mariah's new music doesn't sounds new with the same big climax at the end. I love it, but it's been done so many times. An interesting direction would be if she decided to work with unknown indie producers. It's a really smart risk, and make Mariah more mesmerizing to those that aren't huge fans. In addition, Mariah should evaluate her current voice. Understand what she can do and not be afraid to showcase her new voice, even if it could be lower and more husky. It will always be a very interesting voice. She should also stop the nostalgia talk. Again, her voice is still great, but she's trying to do the same thing she did 20 years ago. I know Mariah's old songs. We all do. Concentrate on the future. Mariah also needs a modern style update. The boobs hanging out (although sexy) all the time is very tiring. And she needs to stop the "look at me" videos. A video that shows a story involving only other actors, or Mariah in the video as if she's telling a story could be cool. Or another crazy idea that she has never done before. Nothing that shows her always touching herself. I am a huge Mariah fan and always will be. What I would thoroughly respect about her as an artist is if she did a major "I'm not afraid of what you think" fun and unpredictable change in her career.
