Mariah opens the ceremony (113,190) by Webmaster Eric from the Netherlands
"The critics from the press are pretty good, I've read only one that was not so nice. But most articles are very positive and nice."

Really? My newsfeed shows 33 negative articles about Mariah's performance and only a handful positive ones. And I agree with most of them. The performance was boring as hell.

What MC really needs moving forward (113,189) by Bobby A from United States
I have been thinking all day about what MC needs for that "big moment" in the spotlight for at least 6 months before she drops a new album. First, she needs a Diane Warren collaboration theme song for an upcoming new movie or sequel. Second, she needs a JD and Johnta Austin follow-up to We Belong Together without repeating the same formula. Third, MC needs a high profile collaboration this year. Finally, she needs a young manager who can put her back on top with her current voice.

More youthful hairstyle please (113,188) by John from USA
If she insists on being a statue, at least get a style update. The Cowardly Lion Mane has to go. It totally ages and dates her, makes her even less accessible. Bring back the honey gold blonde hair with more volume up top and maybe even side-swept bangs.

Performance (113,187) by Lara from Middle East
Olivia Dean, the Grammy winner for best new artist, has been grinding her way for 10 years. Among all new artists, I loved her. Also as most of new artists I don't think she's a vocal powerhouse, but she delivers. Which brings me to my next point: look at her Grammy performance, she's no dancer but she does move, her stylist is always on point, she has that "makes you smile" energy when performing and THAT was Mariah needs. Her voice might not be here anymore but there's a 1000 other ways to compensate other than bling bling accessories and designers custom gowns you're too afraid to break when moving. Mariah my girl you lost your peak voice but 10% of your voice puts you already above most current singers so don't let that kill your confidence.

Mariah opens the ceremony (113,186) by MusicfanJ from Germany
I believe only fans saw the sadness. Because we "know" her. Although I liked Mariah's appearance and the medley of the two songs, I "felt" the sadness too. Or is it just an imagination? And it was the pure stage fright? The critics from the press are pretty good, I've read only one that was not so nice. But most articles are very positive and nice.

Yes, my thoughts exactly. I felt sadness during the whole performance.

I agree totally with you, Shezz. I was just hoping for more of a longer epic performance. So now I think we are about enter a quiet low key period for MC from March-August. Who knows what will happen during the rest of the 2026?

Article: Mariah Carey nails Italian rendition of "Volare" (113,181) by MusicfanJ from Germany
I really enjoyed "Volare". It had the vibes from old Hollywood with Mariah's unique softly tone. She looked beautiful, yes also very tense but with so many people watching no wonder. I think the sound seemed sometimes a bit metal, I'm not so into technics, maybe it comes from the big stadium. (I noticed it with Laura Pausini too.) It was wonderful to see Mariah on prime time TV live in Milano. I hope she can enjoy beautiful Italy and stay maybe for one or two days before flying back. Italy is always good for a trip: the food, the friendly people, the culture, the magical landscape. I had so many beautiful holidays there.

The proof is that she hasn't sung a song fully live since 1997.

Olympics (113,179) by Lara from Middle East
I really don't care if it's lip synched. She had to record these recently to make it so already she made an effort. My issue is she only focuses on her ensembles and forgets everything else. The ensemble isn't enough to distract people from how you're performing Mariah. Keep calm and let go on stage darling.

Mariah opens the ceremony (113,178) by Shezz from Pk
Looked beautiful and the recording which is obviously recent sounded so ethereal and smooth. Lipping and no movement was expected but I wish she looked a little less vacant. She was totally animated and present in her recent Grammy videos so I was hoping that would carry through but I guess her stage fright is just progressing now at these major events where she's glued to monitors and scared to forget the words. At least the arrangement, vocals and the look were great. At this point we just have to take our wins wherever we can.

You don't need to be a vocal expert to tell she was lipping. Yes, she is that bad at lip syncing. For this specific performance, if you want proof, just compare the rehearsal video and the final performance video, same pre-recored track was used.

Mimi at the Olympics (113,175) by Tijl from Belgium
Vene, vidi, vici. She came, delivered and once again gets a lot of crap in return. I hardly doubt that it was lipped. Nor was she reading lyrics from a prompter. For that matter, those claiming she was reading lyrics from a prompter, have you seen the size of the stage? She was in the middle of it with the closest people far away. She is Mariah, not a mutant with eyesight surpassing human possibilities. Her tone was beautiful, on pitch with no slips. And yes, Céline in Paris was more dramatic and full of pathos. But Céline always overperforms. She must believe she is still on that sinking ship. Mariah did fine, not wonderful but fine. 36 years in the business and yet with every bloody performance she gets the bloodhounds sent after her. I am proud of her. Basta la commedia.

Never mind the performance. She looks absolutely stunning in that ensemble. Perfection. It looks like the Italians are satisfied with her rendition. Way to go, MC.

I'm sorry but I need more proof of fer lipping than "trust me, bro". I need an Ashley Simpson like video. I doubt anyone here are vocal experts.

Olympic performance (113,172) by Hanno van Leeuwen from The Netherlands
Sorry but what have I been looking at... Mariah looked great, sounded great but hey it was completely lipped and pre-recorded. No energy at all, stiff and in my opinion a waste of time. Why not a little more uptempo version of Volare? With some great dancers and stuff. So for me A No No.

Well, it was lipped. But so is every Olympic performance. So for once the ol' broad gets a pass. She's still absolutely dead behind the eyes though, and no amount of diamonds or feather boas can hide that. My poor Mariah. Please come back to us.

Mariah opens the ceremony (113,170) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I was so nervous during her performance I felt my heart beat faster, and I actually was a bit touched by the performance.

She looked absolutely spectacular, she was standing in one spot, not much movement, but in this case it actually could be part of the "choreography", it suited the performance well. Her voice was velvety and smooth, and her whistle notes ware perfection. It was prerecorded, but the woman who sang the national anthem also used a prerecorded track, so no big deal.

Mariah made the atmosphere ethereal, it was absolutely beautiful.

Grammy, songwriting, Adam Lambert, etc (113,168) by MusicfanJ from Germany
I searched the music on YouTube from Mr. Bad Bunny so that I know who is trendy right now. And didn't miss anything. I find the music and videos awful. I'm really too old for this luckily. I grew up with 2pac's "I ain't mad at cha", "Changes", "California love" and all the cool RnB and Hip-Hop back then, like Toni Braxton, Aaliyah, Boyz II Men, Shai, Angie Stone, Maxwell, Kenny Lattimore, Sade and so on. And with the King of Pop and Whitney of course. And all the legends that were still alive like George Michael. Yes, we also had the cringy bubblegum pop, Eurodance plus boybands back in the 90ies, but it was so much fun. "Macarena" and "Scatman" couldn't happen in today's music scene. Today's music seems depressing and interchangeable. Grunge was also depressing, but Nirvana was on another league than Bad Bunny. There's a reason why Mariah likes "Smells like teen spirit". She once said it on a show, I guess it was on MTV during the late 90ies or in the 00's. So I hope she releases her grunge album this year. Then Rarities part 2 and then a jazz album. I'm greedy when it comes to Mariah.

Winter Olympics (113,167) by MusicfanJ from Germany
I'm so ready. Yes, it's very popular here too. I love the winter games and will be watching everything I can. The opening ceremony is the highlight of the week. It's been a long, grey and cold one. So I need Mariah for a good feeling and positive vibes. The audience will love her for sure.
