Sam Smith scores fastest selling debut of 2014 so far

Sam Smith has scored the fastest selling debut album of 2014 in the UK so far, with "In The Lonely Hour". The singer's first LP went straight to the top of the Official Albums Chart this evening, knocking Coldplay's "Ghost Stories" off the Number One spot. The album has sold 101,000 copies since its release last Monday. It is also the third fastest selling album of 2014, following "Ghost Stories" and Paolo Nutini's "Caustic Love".

Other new entries in the Official Albums Chart this week include Mariah Carey's "Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse" which is new in at Number 14, whilst Neil Young's "A Letter Home" is in at Number 17 and Royksopp and Robyn's collaborative LP "Do It Again" enters at Number 20. Sharon Van Etten's "Are We There" is in at Number 27.

Over in the Official Singles Chart producer SecondCity has scored his first Number One with his debut single "I Wanna Feel", which sold 82,000 copies over the past week. He toppled Sam Smith's "Stay With Me" which is now at Number Two. Other new entries include Ellie Goulding's "Beating Heart" at Number Nine, and Lana Del Rey's "West Coast" at Number 21.
