Mariah Carey fills the airwaves at this time of year - but she's not filling arenas, with thousands of tickets for her UK gigs this week still up for grabs. The 48-year-old singer plays Nottingham, Leeds and London as part of her European All I Want For Christmas tour.
But more than half the tickets on Ticketmaster for tomorrow's concert at the 13,500-capacity First Direct Arena in Leeds were still unsold yesterday. And there was still availability for Tuesday's gig at London's O2, with prices from £23 to £142. A source said: "It's been a real struggle."
Mariah is the best-selling female artist of all time, with over 200 million albums sold. On Friday she became the first to replace herself as No 1 on Billboard's Top R&B Albums chart as Merry Christmas knocked Caution off the top spot. And her hit All I Want For Christmas Is You is still a festive bestseller, 24 years on.
But last year, after her disastrous Mariah's World TV series aired on E!, her ex Tommy Mottola said: "She should hire more seasoned and respected professionals to help her with her career." Sources close to her say she had a "brilliant" 2018 and will return to the UK next year. Promoter Live Nation declined to comment.
