Mariah Carey: Why I don't have sex
She's arguably the sexiest singer in the world, but Mariah Carey has been celibate since she split with Latin singer Luis Miguel almost two years ago. Carey explains that she's super-cautious about getting involved with a man whose intentions may be less than honorable. "I haven't had a relationship since Luis. But that's my choice," says the songbird, who turned 33 on March 27. "A lot of people I meet are only interested in me as a notch on their belt, a celebrity. They don't want to know me as a person."
The divorced diva was married to much-older record-company mogul Tommy Mottola, 54, from 1993 to 1998. Her next high-profile romance was with Yankee baseball great Derek Jeter, 28. She denies having a physical liaison with Eminem, 30, despite the bad-boy rapper insisting they were intimate. "I spoke to him on a regular basis, but it was not a relationship," Carey insists. "I find it pretty surprising that he would misrepresent something like that."
All told, Carey, who had a breakdown and was twice hospitalized in 2001, says she can count on "less than one hand" the total number of men she's slept with. "I have never had a one-night stand in my life or had a fling with someone that I didn't really know," she declares. "Tomorrow I could meet someone, and off we go, but I doubt it."
