Carey to hit Portland with December show

Call it Divas in December. Two of music's top stars, Shania Twain and Mariah Carey, are headed to Portland for concerts during the second week of December. Twain will play the Rose Garden arena at 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, two nights after Carey plays the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9. Tickets for Twain's show are $20-$80 and go on sale at 9 a.m. Saturday via Ticketmaster. Tickets for Carey's show are $49.50-$150 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday via Ticketmaster.

Twain spent three years away from the spotlight but reclaimed her throne as the queen of pop/country in the past year with her album "Up!". An August TV special was so popular that NBC has booked her for another this winter. She will perform on Wednesday's Country Music Association awards (8 p.m., KOIN 6) and will tune up with a guest spot today on "Oprah Winfrey" (4 p.m., KGW 8). For more, see www.shaniatwain.com.

Carey, one of the top-selling female artists of all time, is hoping her latest album, "Charmbracelet", helps put 2001's personal and professional problems behind her, including the film/album flop "Glitter". Her tour was downgraded from arenas to theaters but has been doing solid business. The two-time Grammy winner is reaching out to fans by allowing them to request songs via her Web site, www.mariahcarey.com.
