She probably said that at that time because she thought it would be years before her title was threatened (and also because after the backlash she received from the Elvis fans, she didn't want to stir drama by saying she is eyeing the Beatles) haha. But now with Rihanna on her 14th #1, with a possibility to score more in the next few months, she will probably get her fire back.

Rumor (60,054)

Rumor has it that RiRi is putting out "Kiss it better" as her next single and I have already heard a lot of people say that it is a great song (I didn't hear it) and everyone was like why didn't she release this instead of "Work"? Is there another #1 coming for RiRi then?

That and why Mariah was never on the cover of Vogue (Paris and US) and Harper's Bazaar will always be a mystery to me. Even in 2005 when everyone was trying to get a piece of Mariah.

Haha MIAM title was a mouthful. I think it would have been better if she released a 2 part album and named one of it "Me. I Am Mariah" and part 2 would be "The Elusive Chanteuse". I loved TAOLG as a title. Sounds more matured and fits the theme of the album better. MIAM didn't really fit the album because the album didn't really define her, it was more about the place she was in emotionally at that time (heartbroken and trying to move on from it) so TAOLG was perfect (I wish she didn't have a meltdown over the name leak). Her previous albums usually had a meaning. To name some, "Butterfly" was about her finally being free, "Rainbow" was named after she saw 2 rainbows together and also because she said she used different textures in the songs. "Charmbracelet" was named because of the bracelet she wore (which either belonged to her grandmother or was a replica of it, I forgot which). TEOM was her coming into her own and taking control of her life (a Butterfly part 2 if you will, but this time fierce) and so on. So yes, I can't wait to hear what she has in mind now.

I absolutely loved both the ensembles she wore in the finale. The one she wore on stage is just gorgeous. It's one of my favorite stage ensembles of Mariah. She looks like a vision of perfection and so angelic. Every bit of the superstar diva that she is. This along with this white outfit she wore in the same year, but not in AI (it was the BET Awards), are both so beautiful, I can't even deal with it. The black outfit she wore to the finale. is also divine. I love how she looks so confident and is like moving around showing off her body. This dress makes her look more edgy and sexy (compared to the innocent angelic performance dress). I don't get why even after having the same stylist now, she fails at delivering the fashionista moments she was delivering in 2013. I think one reason for that can be that since she was on TV weekly at that time, designers would send her clothes to get exposure. I don't know. Anyways this is another look I really love on her, I couldn't find a full sized picture. If you do, link me up.

Dior hire Mariah already (60,044)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Anyone else getting a "Honey" and WBT feels from this Dior ad? Why not just hire the O.G. goddess and have her be the new face of Miss Dior. After campaigning (and then succeeding) in getting Mariah to be the face of MAC, we gotta start a campaign for a major fashion house (I am eyeing Versace/Gucci/Louis Vuitton/Balmain/Chanel to take our elusive chanteuse and make her the face of one of their lines. After all who knows luxury brands better than Miss Mariah Carey. Stella can we do this?

Re: The expected single (60,028) (60,033)

Well since Mariah said "we are doing different things at the moment", in reference to Beyonce, it might mean the single is Mariah only, but she also said "I love Beyonce, she is super talented and I would work with her anytime", and that is what Miguel said about Mariah right before they dropped #Beautiful and rumors were swirling that they have collaborated. So I don't even know. Beyonce's next single will apparently drop in March. When MC said there "may be" a new single "soon" I thought maybe this is it. But I don't know. The whole "Hearts Down" title sounded to be like a fierce upbeat girl power song, or hey it might be a ballad. Anyways let's hope we get some news soon.

Re: Reality show confirmed (60,024) (60,030)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

I think it might be a 2-3 part documentary. I don't think Mariah would ever agree to a reality show, since she dissed reality TV a few times. Like Marissa said I would honestly love to have cameras follow Mariah haha so that I get the feeling that I am moving with her, but for her sake and for her brand's sake, a full fledged reality TV show would destroy her image, so I hope it's not true. But bring on the documentary.

Reality show confirmed (60,017)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

So the rumors about the reality show is indeed true. Check out this thread with Megan Telles's tweet. We have been expecting this ever since we heard they are filming something called "A Butterfly In Vegas" and that Stella and her business partner has an unscripted show deal with Mariah. P.S. Megan is also the one who is firing up the collaboration rumors.

Re: Mariah Carey and Beyonce's rumored single (60,014) (60,015)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Darn it, I can't take this excitement no more. I mean we could all totally me fooling ourselves, but really, MC and Bey taking the photo, then TMZ reporting they talked about a duet together, and I know, I know, artists saying "oh gosh we should totally do a duet together" is the normal people equivalent of "oh gosh we should totally hang out sometimes", but hey Mariah was recently photographed with Lady Gaga (with whom can we please get a collaboration?) and Katy Perry and yet we never heard any rumors about them talking about a rumor. So that followed by news Mariah confirmed the other day that she doesn't know about an album but there is a single coming soon, and now rumors about Beyonce releasing a secret album, it just all seems to come into place. Or a lamb can hope. I mean we know MC might not have had time to record new stuff for her own album but it'll just take a few hours for her to go and lay down her vocals as a featured artist. But then I wonder would Mariah really dish about her duet to OK TV? The whole "Mariah dishes on rumored collaboration" can be just a simple "no we are not" for all we know haha. But please please let this be true. "But I'm scared and I'm nervous, I don't wanna be hurt, because if it's true then it has potential to be number 1." (sung like "The One" haha)

The rumor (60,012)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
So twitter is having a meltdown over the rumored MC-Bey collab. This has been fired more by the OK TV promo where the interview talks how Mariah dishes on her collab with Bey and belts out a new lyric. Just to be clear she might just have said "I love Beyonce, I would love to work with her" and maybe the channel is using it to increase viewers but we'll see. I see quite a few articles talking about how MC will be on Beyonce's "Formation" album. And I also see the date "March 22nd" floating around. I don't know what's true, but if they are indeed working together, I am all for it.

Haha Lee, that Wendy line, I can't. But my point was I'd rather wait and have her come with a body of solid work, not just some half cooked single just to fill up time. I need her to be inspired again and put her all in her next effort.

Re: New single (59,997) (60,008)

I wouldn't really call buzz singles the new rage. Ariana and Rihanna didn't release buzz singles, Ariana's "Focus" is/was supposed to be on her album and she would have subsequently released it had "Focus" done well on the charts. Rihanna's singles were also meant for her album but we know she had a MIAM situation where her singles were not backed up by promos and died down as well as her album constant being pushed back. Beyonce's "Formation" is as of yet a stand alone, it only received so much attention because it has a social message. However that being said, it is being reported that even Beyonce is planning to release 2 albums this year in addition to her long rumored joint album with Jay Z. If Britney and Fergie did release them, I have not even heard about it so that shows how little attention it got and right now if Mariah releases something we need the attention. So yes, I still think Mariah should have a proper era planned out when she makes her move. She released one too many "buzz singles". If she releases one more she has to make sure it can make an impact on the charts and the GP.

New single (59,996)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
As much as I am desperate for any material Mariah throws my way, I really want her next era to be a strong one and not a haphazard one. So I hope when she says the album will take time, she is really just making us believe that she won't release anything soon, but in reality she has it ready. Because what's the point of yet another buzz single. Lord knows since "Triumphant" we have been bombarded with singles that were ultimately given the "buzz single" title since they didn't make an impact. So I was hoping when she releases a new single, it means her album is following suit and that she has her plan in place on how to promote it. Honestly, since Mariah's recent singles didn't do well (not because of quality but because of other factors), a random single not backed up properly will just further cause a dent in her image. Yes, I know she has nothing to prove but that doesn't mean she'll just recklessly go about her career. I really hope Mariah gets a manager who is well versed in the music industry. Stella does a good job but she is not from the music background, she is from the television background and she won't really push Mariah musically. Instead we are getting an unscripted show in the making (as the rumors went) which is fine and all but Mariah is a singer first. Secondly LA Reid has already given her the legacy act corner so he won't push her either. I don't know, I just had to ramble, but I want the best for Mariah and I hope when she embarks on the new era, she comes strong.

Justin Bieber is pretty good though. His new album is fire. MC clearly likes him too to allow him to duet on one of her most popular songs worldwide (AIWFCIY). When Justin approached Mariah for his "Mistletoe" album, they were supposed to do a new song together. But Mariah told him she'd like him to re-record AIWFCIY with her. Which is a pretty big deal because Mariah doesn't permit a lot of covers of her material.

Mariah apparently told AH that although she will take time perfecting her next album, we can expect at least another single very soon. This woman is such a tease and she has already got me hyped. I hope this soon means soon though and not like the "soon" we got when she said MIAM will be released soon, or the video of "Why You Mad" haha which never saw the light of the day. MC stop teasing and give us the date. I hope the promo plan is on point this time. I want this single to burn up Billboard.

The video did not count to her chart position this week though. It will count for next week. From what I heard, the video was released after the cut off time for chart points. So she got the #1 based on the hype of her and Drake's sexual tension/chemistry. The Navy may attack me now, but cut me some slack, I am in distress over this news.

The thing is, Rihanna getting more #1's is very possible solely because of the fact that with the change in Billboard's chart formula, it is easier for hyped up music to reach #1. It's not as hard as how it was when Mariah, MJ, The Beatles and Elvis had it. At that time your song truly had to reach people for it to get to #1. Now anyone can come and score a #1 by creating a viral video or by striking up a major publicity stunt. This is the only reason Rihanna can get to Mariah's record. No other reason. Mariah will still remain the songbird supreme, but she just won't have that one title that both the lambs and Mariah herself likes to rub on people's face every now and then. Lord knows I have had my share of "well Mariah has 18 #1's, how many does your fave?" moments. Sadly a few of them was to the Rihanna fans. Ugh karma.

Coming for the Billboard queen status (59,949)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|

Let's not even try to fool ourselves thinking that it will take Rihanna a few more years to pass Mariah. She can very well do it by this year or next year if she choose to. Why? Look at Taylor's 1989. Collected 3 #1's within a span of 2 years. Bieber's "Purpose" collected 3 #1's within a span of 1 year. So Rihanna can do the same. She doesn't even need to spend the 2nd week at #1, she'll just have to be there 1 week and that's it. If Mariah doesn't step up her game, she has to be fine with people asking her how it feels to have Rihanna surpass her record (Rihanna out of all the people in the world, heck I would have settled for Taylor even since she at least writes her material). There would be no more "18 #1's, not everyone has that".

The question of talent is irrelevant here. What is important to take note of is that a woman is being rejected the right to freedom and is forced to be under the control of her alleged abuser and the only way she can pursue her dreams (of writing music and performing) is by staying under this person's control or the only other path is to abandon her passion. No woman, or man, deserves this, regardless of their profession, position and situation.

Nah the makeup wasn't working for me. It looked patchy and the the bronzer/contour shade combo kinda came out muddy. Also I wish Kris would stop using these lashes (the one that flares out at the end and is smaller around the inner corner), it is not for Mariah's eye shape and I feel it closes her eyes up. Those lashes are more suited for Angelina Jolie. For Mariah, he needs to get those wispy lashes that flares out more around the center and opens her eyes. However, I will have to say she looked better in the videos. I like Mariah with softer makeup like she had on the #Beautiful music video, it makes her look more youthful, especially with more toned down bronzer and a peachy pink blush. The dress, however I completely agree with you. It looked cheap and it just didn't look right. Also bring back strappy heels.
