Do I think Mariah will get another #1 just by herself? Possibly not if I'm setting realistic expectation. Is it possible via a hot collaboration? Very possible. But lambs can't be blamed for expecting chart success when Mariah herself keeps reminding everyone about her #1s and like you said very recently Gamma talked about their joint ambition to surpass The Beatles. She has marketed herself as the "biggest selling female recording artist in US history" since the early 2000s. The Forbes magazine article about her partnership with Gamma explicitly stated she and the team were interested in surpassing The Beatles' record for most #1 singles in United States history. She wouldn't launch into festive overdrive every year to notch more weeks at #1 for AIWFCIY if she didn't care about charts. Mariah has always been willful, ambitious and tenacious; and it is one of the things I have always admired about her. I don't expect a number one record every single time, but I definitely want Mariah to succeed. She's been randomly bringing it up and it never goes anywhere. She should just focus on HFIA and I'm a bit disappointed that she doesn't have much stories to share about her writing process when the question comes up either from the interviewer or the fans. She's very vague and very airy about it yet she keeps saying that people don't give her credit for writing her songs. She had a relatively narrow time interval to promote the album, and it really should be the focus because it's a great body of work. I think they should have put the album out much sooner, closer to the release of "Type Dangerous". She wasn't as busy with tour engagements during the Summer, so she could have devoted more time to the album. I know some people did not like "Type Dangerous", but it caught fire in a way like none of her single releases since "#Beautiful". They should have pushed the first single a lot harder and planned better so that "The Celebration of Mimi" shows were not diverting attention away from the album. She has tour engagements planned for all of October and into the first week of November, and then the Christmas residency starts on November 28. iHeartRadio (111,380) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter I saw a low quality version on YouTube and it doesn't have the audio for the first bit but it's a great improvement. She's walking around, smiling and doing little beat moves. We don't need her to dance, just little engagement is all she needs. And she delivered. The sugar sweet jacket that was given to her by a fan I'm not sure if it was staged or impeccable timing, but I was on edge trying to see if she gives it to someone else in the audience but she's so cute she held it for the whole song and then she walks over to the piano and describes what the jacket says and transitions to Sugar Sweet, it put a smile on my face when she did it because it was so endearing. I also loved that she plugged her album multiple times during the show. Can nobody say she didn't try to promote hahah. Also loved her confident strut during ILT and the energy during the song. Exactly what we needed. I was hoping she did something for TDang when she first performed it back in the day a strong strut while singing "I came in the door dropped in Balenci". Mariah was on fire. Brazil show (111,200) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter I can see why people would be disappointed. She barely moved. I don't get it, she was doing much better in the other show but is back to being stiff. I know a lot of people are like Mariah is not a dancer and for sure no one expects her to dance, but she always had a great stage presence back in the day. She'd move around, move her hands that would emote the song and just be more "present". Nowadays she seems like she is in a glass cage not moving, not interacting and just frozen constantly looking at the monitor. It's almost like she can't see she's in an audience, and only is looking at her band and backup dancers. She's booking these huge shows which can really help her sales but she just seems so disinterested and bored. I wish someone would speak to her or show her the clips so she can see what she's doing. Here in New York, schools actually banned cellphones during class hours, and even the students admitted they were better off without them. Back when things were simpler, kids were more connected and social, now it feels like they're living in a cloud. These days, it's the phones and tablets raising them, not real interactions. VMAs (111,031) by Randy from USA Mimi L, I kinda liked the ensemble. I thought the boots were kind of clunky though. I think she looked terrific and I thought her movement was standard, she's done less movement before. My problem is (as always) that someone considered one of the greatest vocalists of all time can't seem to sing live but even then, she's miming better than in the past. Her eyes were on that teleprompter though. You could tell she was reading the whole time. That's a new phenomenon with her. She wrote these songs. She's lived with them. Hell, they're part of pop culture. She probably just needs it for the arrangement and to not miss her mouthing cues. But that hurts her interaction with the audience. Maybe, just maybe, if she'd just sing. I know I know. It was too cold in there. It was too hot in there. She didn't get 8 hours sleep. Her humidifier quit without giving two weeks notice. VMAs (111,021) by Shezz from Pk Really happy she got the best RnB video as well. Performance was pretty much as expected. I'd give it a 7. I wonder why they cut it down to 5 minutes from the usual 10 minutes given to the Vanguard performance. I'm sure Mariah wasn't complaining. Best part of it was of course her interaction with Ari. The body suit era needs to end though. A nice short dress would've been more flattering. All in all another good promo for the new era.
