Hey C, Mariah Carey has 19 number 1 hits (106,794) by Shezz from Pk The way Taylor Swift is going, her momentum and her die hard fan base (that buys half a dozen version of her albums and singles with the slightest variations) she seems to be a hot contender to take over MC's number 1s tally (now at 12). With the chart rules as they are now, it is not as important for the entire general audience to love a song for it to go to number 1. Swifties alone are enough to make her new songs debut at n1 - which used to be such a big feat in the 90s - case in point Fortnight. It's not a great song. 3-4 more albums and she will sadly cross MC's tally and she churns out an album a year.MC's number 1s are a great accomplishment no matter who finds them forgettable and who finds them memorable. I hope she gets to keep it. She loves the title and as a long time fan I love it too. Previously Rihanna was hot on her heels but then she decided to go an extended hiatus. And analyzing and perfecting things can sometimes take away from the original idea. I also think when you analyse something over and over something that isn't that great from the start can almost feel better after becoming over familiar with it. It's like when a song is released from her that isn't that great and after a while you learn to love it as you have become over familiar with it. I hope Mariah invests in her music video with concept. This is especially crazy since Mariah has been doing exclusive deals with them which has worked against her because due to these deals Spotify which is a bigger player kept her out of big playlists. So I wonder how Mariah feels about this. I also wonder did she go with Apple because that's the only streaming that wanted to work with her or she had a choice and made a bad decision. It's sometimes easy to confuse abuse with tough love/care especially when she has been primarily living with Pat the whole of her childhood. She probably grew up and realized she doesn't need that negativity. Also maybe behind the scenes her mom didn't support her through the mess Morgan and all put her through and she felt betrayed. Mariah still gives her mom credit where it's due. She probably just realised as she had her own family that her own was a bit messed up. It has since been replaced by "Espresso". Although Save Your Tears remix became huge even after happening a year later I doubt this will be the case for MC because Ariana and Weeknd are two of the biggest streaming artists so their combined fandom is what got the song to the top. Lol I was so hopeful of the Ariana collab that this time around I'm keeping my expectations low. I wish it was an original song, not a remix. Muni Long remix (106,399) by Shezz from Pk I love your optimism and enthusiasm Robert Anthony. The remix is supposedly dropping next week (insider). I don't quite see the original on the Hot 100 as they only show top 20 positions. RA when did this song hit its peak? Is it falling right now? I don't want it to be another "Yes, And" situation with her hopping on to a dying song and it only going to the lambs. Apparently it will be sent to radio next week, maybe Def Jam might just put some weight behind it. I love her collaborating with these current female singers but I wish they were original collaborations and not remixes of old songs. Although the Weekend's "Save your tears" remix with Ariana came after nearly a year and that did so well. I think Mariah is trying to warm the general public up with these collaborations before hitting us with MC16. The lead single I think will come atleast 2 months after this release now. Turned out to be the Muni Long one. Here are another couple of interesting things they are claiming: 1. The Audible BFL session is a prelude. She's managed a contract with a streaming giant for the rest of it finally. In another post they said Vevo is teaming up with a great female artist for a special series of performances. 2. Mariah x Ariana (again). Not sure whether it's for BFL or MC16 (if true). I think we have some interesting times ahead - 2 of which are confirmed, the Muni Long remix and the Audible session. The latter surprises me more because even though Mariah hasn't consistently been a fashion trendsetter, she has been iconic in more ways than one and I've seen people with less accolades be on the cover multiple times. I would have imagined she would have been on the cover either during her 90s peak or her TEOM/Einstein era. As for the Met Gala, how attendance works is it's $75k per person ticket or you can book a whole table for $350k plus Anna needs to approve the guest. Mariah is usually smart with her money so maybe she never wanted to shell out so much? Also what frequently happens is the designer buys the whole table and picks celebs to go with them, so I'm surprised Donatella and D&G never took her since they're such good friends. Alaia and Karl too. Lastly I think Mariah might feel like the Met is too much pressure for her. She does often feel insecure of being photographed in an angle she can't control and the Met is the biggest red carpet of them all so she might not feel up to the pressure that comes with walking that carpet. She isn't the only A lister never to attend though - Britney, Brad, Angelina, Meryl Streep, Ryan Gosling, Jen Aniston etc also never attended. I always wanted to see her on the Met carpet really taking chances but honestly I've come to terms with her not attending especially with now it just including random people like instagrammers and TikTokers.
