About Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter:

Empire (56,398) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I agree with Lee TS. Mariah is the queen of the music industry but in Empire, Taraji is the boss. She is the main character and I hope Mariah respects that. The rumor was started by Hollywood life so I really wouldn't trust it just yet. Plus Lee is always good with keeping Mariah professional in his projects. He has stated that she is always on time and is always game to try anything for him. So I hope it's the same for Empire and I really hope her role is the opposite of the glamorous diva. People need to see her acting skills if she wants to explore that region. She did really good in "Precious". But she can't always rely on Lee to cast her. I mean of course Lee will, but if she wants other directors to consider her for roles, she needs to show her acting skills and a diva role would not do much for her acting because she already plays that part in real life. I'd like Lee to do what Lee does best with Mariah, that is to bring her out of her comfort zone.

Re: Israel concert (56,368) (56,377) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Licia, she performed it at the Jamaican festival concert earlier this year. I think I have started liking the So So Def remix more than the original.

New album / Mara (56,367) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Mara, there seems to be a lot of people who have supposedly collaborated with Mariah during the recording of MIAM era and the songs never came out. We heard different song titles (which could have been rumors) but some came out of Mariah's own mouth. Then I will never stop asking where the heck is the Morales collaboration that he tweeted about during that time. Mariah is probably going to release a surprise album soon. Yes I am riling up the message board at this point haha. But I feel like she is dropping hints with the random tweets. She does have enough material if we are to take into account her statement that she has a whole album ready which she wanted to release but didn't because someone copied it before she could release it.

I wonder why Mariah is quite frequently tweeting out pictures and lyrics from her songs. Like "Heartbreaker", "Obsessed", "It's like that". She also put up the picture of the VOL single cover and asked fans to guess what single cover it was (as if there is a single lamb or even non lamb left in this world who doesn't know that iconic cover). Anyways I wonder if she is giving out some hints or what? The possibility of a surprise album gets me all giddy. She seems like she is recording behind the scenes. There was a rumor she collaborated with Azalea Banks. Please Lord, surprise album, please, please, please. *fingers crossed, eyes squeezed shut*

Re: Article: Jermaine doesn't think Taylor Swift is the new Mariah (56,287) (56,289) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I agree. JD is always misunderstood and shot down by the lambs. I remember the fans insulting the crap out of him, attacking him on all social media platforms when the roll out of MIAM got messy. He had to be Mariah's shield and take the hit while she completely stopped acknowledging the lamb riot (for those few months) and instead went ahead and tweeted about the most random things, like other artists or her necklace and what not. I think JD is one of those rare people in Mariah's life who actually cared about her personally and understood her musically. Fans keep blaming JD that he made Mariah go down the "rap sing style" but he always said that he keeps trying to make Mariah belt but she does what she wants. I hope Mariah is still in good terms with him. Abandoning him would be sad. They have known each other for over 2 decades now. JD and Mariah always had great songs. I can't blame the messy roll out of MIAM on JD.

Re: Article: Jermaine doesn't think Taylor Swift is the new Mariah (56,281) (56,283) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Ariana realized from the second album (second year of the her pop "stardom") that she is making a fool of herself by trying to draw Mariah comparisons. That's why she tried to distance her music from signature Mariah style. The way she was using Mariah as an "inspiration" for her first album was embarrassing because she came out as a knock off version and got blasted for that. Ariana can sing but she tries too hard and copies from so many celebs, it's like she doesn't have an identity/personality.

Beautiful (56,271) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I have said in a previous post that even though Mariah always looks gorgeous, but if I had to pick an era where she looked her greatest (sexy and beautiful with a lot of elegance), it has to be the "Butterfly" era. But even I was surprised when I saw these unedited photos of Mariah from the Butterfly photo shoot. The woman basically had no flaws. I honestly had to look hard to understand what exactly they changed because they look exactly like the finished version. I still don't find much difference, but I think they fixed the hairline from the first picture and maybe added a few shades here and there. Probably went over the skin once with the airbrush tool, although it looks unnecessary as her skin looks literally perfect. Lastly they added the butterfly to the pictures. That's about it. We live in an era where celebs have to photoshop their pictures to the extreme and even the GP are so into filters to look perfect, whereas Mariah Carey in 1997 was a vision of perfection.

Christmas (56,253) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
It's not "MCIIY" that is being re-released. They are re-releasing the original one. Which in my opinion is pretty unnecessary because either ways it sells like crazy every year. Plus we have heard every possible remix of "AIWFCIY". I am sick of L.A. Reid's stupid "vision". He is turning her into a re-release machine. I can understand the #1's being re-released since the original didn't have all of the songs together and also as a tie-in with Vegas, but re-releasing "MC" is silly. They need to stop living in the past. We have already established that Mariah is a global superstar. They should work on making her career going forward. She has the potential, she has the talent. But her only fault is she trusts L.A. a little too much. L.A. will only do what's good for his company (which he is right in his way), unlike what Mariah probably believes.

Re: Triumphant - Infinity (56,236) (56,243) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Ugh yes, finally. Yes to everything in Lee's post. The original is great too. I love it. Triumphant the original is like "Hero" meets "Lil' Love". The "get 'em, get 'em" gets me pumping and energized. It might not have been great for a first single (of a highly anticipated album), but the song is definitely great. I can't understand the hate for it. "#JusticeForTriumphant". I am putting the hashtag in quotation marks so I hope it doesn't get censored to deleted.

Flawless (56,186) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
*side stepping all the drama* Mariah looks absolutely flawless in this picture. Love the hair, the whole effortless curls thing. Her makeup is on point, she looks so fresh. She's just gorgeous.

Re: Cleavage (56,102) (56,114) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Haha oh Lord, we have all taken turns trying to convince Mariah (through this board of course) to keep them other "twins" under wraps. But I guess Mariah lives by the "wild boobies hang unbridled, or their spirit dies" motto. Personally, I think she looks much better with them boobies covered up. I mean it's fine once in a while to let them walk the red carpet or go shopping out in the open but not all the time. But then again she is Mariah (the queen) and I am me (mere peasant).

Re: Mimi L. / B (56,076) (56,082) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Haha well darling at least I try to give proper opinions/suggestions on things that matters. And not just leave one liners like "Mariah is so fat", "Mariah can't sing", "Mariah lost her writing ability", "Can we get Mariah to be thin again." Plus at least I stick to my opinions. Can't say the same about you. Aren't you the same person who basically called Licia, and me out for suggesting Mariah should embrace her body instead of trying to hide it behind wet suits at beaches and you went on a mini rant telling us how "Mariah's fans are her worst enemies" and how we should "leave Mariah alone because we may not be aware of what she is going through health wise"? (Refer to your own post 54,830.) And yet you disregard what she may be suffering health wise and keep telling her to be thin. I also loved how you wrote "I don't agree with you and neither would Mariah" to a post where I wrote how she shouldn't jump on new projects without giving it her all and release bad singles/videos, whereas you complain the most about her song choices. Oops there you go, wrote a "long essay" again. Don't worry it's my last post directed at you. There will always be a new Giovanni on this board every other day, but we "love" everybody. Oh and I would love to hear you "do a duet with Mariah".

Re: Memoirs / B (56,075) (56,078) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
That remix of H.A.T.E.U. is divine. I love it. Especially how she used the sample. I discovered so many great songs while checking out samples that Mariah used for her songs and it always amazes me how she picks them. Anyways I think H.A.T.E.U. is a great example of how Mariah can still shine in a rapper heavy song if it's done right. Thanks for sharing your list B.

Re: Memoirs (56,071) (56,074) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Hahah thanks Licia, you are a sweetheart. You are right and so is B, we shouldn't feed the irregularities. About Memoirs, it is an underrated album. I get why people only think of the cheesy songs (which I still love) when they think of Memoirs, even I sometimes do the same. It has some really good songs though. It has the rare moment when Mariah threatens you with murder/grievous bodily harm with the "betcha gonna know how it feels, even if it's the last thing I ever do, to be continued" haha. I wonder what she had planned for the lover plus then she just went ahead and told her lover ssying "I should crack you right in your forehead" in IAW. The only other time she threatened to assault someone was "I will hunt you down" in TMB. I was also very excited about the remix album, but Mr Reid dropped it. Anyways but I am interested to know what your favorite tracks from Memoirs are.

Re: Memoirs / B (56,058) (56,063) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
No one said anything about a #1. A top 50 is also a hit Giovanni. Mariah has spoiled her fans by getting too many #1's, so now anything less than #1 is a flop for them. Ridiculous. It'd be nice if you can post one message without sarcasm. You are almost getting too predictable.

Memoirs / B (56,052) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Aah, no B leave Memoirs alone. Haha kidding, you know I love you. But ya I actually really love Memoirs. It's pretty underrated. I mean come on, "Betcha Gonna Know" is a masterpiece. "The Impossible" and "Languishing" are gems. "Angels Cry" is such an amazing song, I love it, especially the version with Ne-Yo. Then "Angels (Prelude)" how can one not love that heavenly piece of art? "H.A.T.E.U", another classic Mariah ballad. "Candy Bling" is such a moody song with the infectious "finger snap" going on and that awesome "back in the day" loop. The lyrics are cute but also not cheesy. I feel like when people think of Memoirs they only remember the "fun songs". But it has some really deep songs too, with great vocals. That being said, I love the "fun songs" on this album too. "Obsessed" is just so catchy and summer-y, and had the line that was probably the first "MC catch phrase" that was adapted by the GP. I think "Ribbon" and "Inseparable" are the cutest songs ever. These would have been hits if they were released because giddy teenagers in love would eat it up. "It's a Wrap" is another song I love, because of the way she sings it. I am neutral towards "MTJF". And despite what people say I still love MC's version of "IWKWLI". Memoirs is easily in my top 3. I don't skip a single song in it.

Almost Home (56,049) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
The song is gorgeous. Everything from the music, to the vocals, the production and the video was perfect. Also it had such a haunting sound to it, the chorus gives me shivers even now. The verses are dark and moody and then the chorus just lifts your spirit and lightens everything up. It's hands down one of Mariah's best and underrated songs. I believe the song was wasted on the soundtrack. From what I heard, it was played at the end of the movie when people already start leaving. They didn't give it enough promo. Lana Del Rey's "Once upon a dream" for Maleficent was also used during the ending credits, but the song still got a lot of publicity because it was used in the promos. "Almost Home" could also have been a bigger hit had it been promoted more. I wish it was in one of her albums. I love how the video is so simplistic yet gorgeous. I have no doubt about Mariah's writing ability but I do feel sad that she is releasing half baked products, when really this is the prime time when she should be releasing quality music to shut the haters up. I don't mind rapper heavy songs coming from Mariah, I also don't mind Mariah being hood. I love "Li'l Love" and SIO. What I don't like is how her recent songs sound so unpolished and half done, when really she can come up with such beautiful songs. I don't know if she is feeling uninspired or what but if that's the case she can always take her time and release things when she is inspired instead of releasing songs that are sub par according to her standards and getting slammed for it.

What "Will" Mariah do? (56,036) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
So Mariah shared this picture of her with Will Smith, from the 80s, before she became famous. I wonder why? I am not being mysterious, I am really wondering why, so any answers/explanations are welcome.

Why You Mad (Infinity Remix) (56,030) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
So I took my time and listened to this song a lot of times because I wanted to hear what MC heard in it to think it was a good remix. Now while on first listen I was like "oh hell no", this song is a disaster, after listening to it multiple times, I think it can be saved. But like I said, a lot of it needs to be tweaked. I think they should drop TI. I love TI but really he is adding nothing to this song. I'd like French to be pushed to the last verse. I would actually like French out of the song completely but since he was the first to collaborate, I think that won't happen. The song should start with a Mariah verse. Then chorus, Justin, chorus, Mariah and then French, then the ending chorus. Various voices should be made a little more prominent because I feel like the music is overshadowing Mariah's voice. I love her urban remixes, I also don't mind her using a lot of rappers in a song, but the song needs to flow well. This song didn't flow well for me. So with a few more tweaks, it can be saved. I wonder why we don't hear anything more about the song from MC or French. Did they decide not to release it or are they tweaking it? Now would have been a good time to release if they do, because Justin's fans are hungry for any release he makes and once his own song comes out in a few days, no one will care about this. We need all the fandoms of the collaborators to get a hit.

Re: Rolling Stone/Telegraph "greatest" lists (56,010) (56,013) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I also heard about it and it is absolutely disgusting. Who makes these lists? Mariah's achievements are far bigger than what the people named on that list. I am shocked honestly. This is a new low. Mariah may not be at the top now, but if one looks at her overall career, she has made a bigger impact than anyone on that list. She has influenced both singing and songwriting. What nonsense is this.

Re: Stolen idea, depends how you look at it (55,970) (55,971) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Your post is indeed good, but I just wanted to leave a possible scenario that came to my mind after I read your post. Although I agree that Mariah shouldn't abandon her plans if someone else does it before her, however, if her plan was to drop a surprise album and Beyonce beat her to it, Mariah was better off not trying to follow up to that. We can't argue that in current music scene Beyonce gets more exposure than Mariah and Beyonce has a bigger fan base currently. (Mariah is definitely superior to Bey in overall success, but I am talking about current situation.) When Beyonce dropped this album, the world almost stopped haha and everyone went crazy to buy it. Even casual listeners. That combined with no streaming and all made it mandatory for people to buy it if they wanted a taste of it. It was the most talked about album that year and sold millions. If Mariah pulled this stunt after Beyonce, she would have been ridiculed to the extreme since the sales would have been much lower (being realistic). They would start drawing comparisons, ridiculing her and what not, so I am glad she didn't do it after Beyonce. Doing it before would have been different because it wouldn't draw comparisons. As for Taylor, I don't think Mariah was concerned with Taylor. Taylor's album came later and Taylor didn't do any of the "demo release" things.
