About Matty from Vancouver Canada: I love music of all kinds, with R&B and pop toping my list of favourite genres. I've been a Mariah fan since Charmbraclet, there was something about that album that connects on a deep level. Other favourite albums are Glitter, Daydream, The Emancipation of Mimi, and Me. I Am Mariah.

My Favourite Mariah Songs are: The Art of Letting Go, Fantasy & Shake It Off.

My Least Favourite album is Music Box.

My most start-to-finish listened album (don't-skip-a-track albums): Emotions, Butterfly, The Emancipation of Mimi and Me. I Am Mariah: The Elusive Chanteuse.

John and Mariah (87,954) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I would love a John Legend and Mariah Carey duet album. Lots of piano, strings, orchestra, their beautiful voices melting together. I think they could make magic together. When Christmas Comes duet version wasn't enough for me. Someone also mentioned on this board, Mariah seems to feel very comfortable working with an orchestra, so I think her output would be great.

Re: Mariah / Super Bowl (87,948) (87,953) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Lol. I only said she should where pants, Mariah looks amazing in pants and body suits IMO. I've also been to some Mariah concerts where she moves freely and easily around the stage having a blast, and then I've been to other concerts where she stands on the X-mark the entire show (a performance like the Super Bowl needs the former, given the nature of that massive venue and audience). One of Mariah's signature and most iconic Mariah hair is the massive huge curls. I'm not sure where in my comment you felt I was re-imagining who MC is and expecting something that's not her? Everything I mentioned is the same Mariah we've seen many times before. Remember this is a hypothetical "if" Mariah were to play the Super Bowl. I'm well aware Mariah is in on the "diva glamour" persona, and lives that up and has fun playing that up. You're right it ain't that serious

Re: Mariah / Super Bowl (87,932) (87,938) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I think Mimi doing the Super Bowl with a roaster of other big names, like they did in 2001 with Britney, Aerosmith, Mary J and 'NSYNC, would be the best play and a huge success if she were to sign on. I completely agree with her staying away from the standards she always does and really mixing it up with a medley of Triumphant Vintiage Remix, Meteorite, and A No No remix (que Missy, Cardi and Lil' Kim to also take the stage). The rest of the artist line up could be Bruce Springsteen, Cardi B, Shawn Mendes, and Shakira with an awesome dance sequence. Each artist does their own 3-4 song medley to charge the crowd up. All tastes and demos would be a tapped which is what made 2001 so successful. Also... no gowns at all on MC. She needs to wear pants, lower shoes to be able to move around the stage freely and without hand holding, and have massive Diva's Live hair circa 1998.

Re: Caution v Charmbracelet (87,863) (87,866) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I love Charmbraclet [sic] (this is the album that I became a Lamb with), I'd love to hear more about how Caution is the second coming of Charmbraclet in your option. I see Butterfly, Charmbraclet and Caution as their own trilogy because of the cohesion, moody vibe and specific flow those three albums have. My only grip with Charmbraclet is it has my least favourite album art. The washed out colour palet that I think is meant to be Mediterranean beachy, and her facial expression. (I'm not sure what she wanted to communicate with it. Pain? Strength? Hurt? Perseverance?) I obsessed with the Caution album art. My favorite to date up there with E=MC2 gorgeous classy artwork.

Mariah's managers? 1990-2019 (87,735) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Out of curiousity, can someone list all of Mariah's managers since the start of her career and the years they worked together (and if that manager has managed another recognized artist, list one or two)?

Re: The sequence of events (87,670) (87,674) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Agreed. If I work for someone, and their pee is anywhere near my being... I'm out. Unless golden showers were listed in her job offer, this makes no sense. I also don't understand why Mariah is the target if her suite is all about Stella's abusive ways. (Of course it's where the money is, but pragmatically, how could Mariah be blamed for Stella's abuse?)

Does anyone remember seeing this assistant out and about with Mariah? Did this assistant not come on board at Mariah Corp. around the same time as Stella? I would assume Stella had a hand in these recordings the assistant made.

I wonder what Tanaka has to say about Stella and the assistant. He was around for the whole mess and seems to have been a savior in the situation to help pull Mariah out of this dark place.

One final thought regarding Mariah's possible drug use seen in videos. 1) She's in the music business, "it's all rock and roll baby". 2) She's a grown women who swears and probably uses some kind of substances to let loose. 3) Wasn't there a scene in Mariah's World where the crew on tour were saying they were tripping on Molly/MDMA?

Merry Mariah season (87,220) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Merry Christmas and the Merriest of Mariah season MCA Lambs. I'm hosting a big Christmas Eve open house with my partner tonight, and you best believe you know what three vinyls will be on constant rotation at the party (hint hint: one's vinyl is red, one vinyl's a orchestral party that never disappoints, and one vinyl is getting the most rave reviews from critics across the board and 2018 best album lists).

Cher having a moment (86,901) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Cher is having a serious, beautiful, celebratory moment right now (at the fabulous ages of 72), and it got me thinking: How high are some people's expectation for Mariah, compared to a five and a half decade long diva? Cher's first solo album dropped in 1965 (Mariah's 1990). 10 years into her career, Cher's 12th album "Stars" peaked at #153 (compare that to Mariah's Rainbow (#2)/Glitter (#7) which were also around that 10 year mark). Cher's 15th album "Take Me Home" peaked at number #25. Mariah's 15th album is peaking at #5. Madonna hasn't yet released 15 albums yet (Rebel Heart being her 13th). Janet Jackson has given us 11 studio albums. Whitney sadly only gave us 7 studio albums. What makes even some Mariah's "biggest fans" always questions if she's "done for good/lost it/going to finally retire" with even new album release since 2001 and/or 2005? What is that? To quote Mariah from that ****in reality show she did, "J.L.T/Job Long Time". She's in it for the long haul kids, buckle in, she's got 24 years before hitting 72. You might not like absolutely everything she releases, but she's released 15 albums with mostly original music written, sung and produced by your dahling dearest. Your opinions of her music through the decades are just that, your opinion, which equals no more then anyone else. Personally I believe Mariah has hit her stride with Caution. Others think it was with Music Box. (Which in my opinion is her most boarding, uninspired, caged, run of the mill circa 1993 album, that happened to have some of her most buttery smooth powerful vocals. Her voice was certainly there, however, her true art was not. Celine or Whitney could have sung and released Music Box as well, and we wouldn't know it was created by Mariah. Kinda like few people know that "Where are You Christmas" sung by Faith Hill was written by Mariah.) Only Mariah can create a Butterfly, Charmbraclet, Caution or Emancipation of Mimi. Truly think about it. Those four albums are a genre within themselves. It's the R&B Hip Pop that Mariah's defined for herself and her personal art, that only she can express to the finest decimal point. Personally, I'm buckled in for the next three or four decades and I'll be continuing the soap opera that is "the story of uniquely unparalleled of Ms. Mariah Carey".

Re: Why 8th Grade? Butterfly marries TEOM (86,651) (86,661) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
"Caution" is anything but boring. Smooth, silky, moody, warm, dark, ambient. Anyone play this record while they [censored]? It's a damn hot album.

Cohesive vs. disjointed (86,625) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I believe "Butterfl" and "Caution" are Mariah's most cohesive albums start to finish. The track to track flow of both albums is masterful.

"Rainbow" and "MIAM" are completely disjointed. I can count the number of times I've listened to Rainbow start to finish on one hand nearly two decades after its release (although I like all the songs individually). I love every single MIAM track individually (except for the oddly unnecessary "America The Beautiful" bonus), but now listening to it front to back in order, after listening to "Caution", it's very jarring sequencing. I've always had MIAM sequenced differently on my personal playlist since it came out.

The cohesion of "Caution" juxtaposed to the disjointed nature of MIAM truly exemplifies how Mariah's got a renewed love and connection with her art.

"Let the queen make music for her most loyal of fans, but more importantly, for herself." - Lauren Alvarez, Forbes. This statement is as true for "Butterfly" as it is for "Caution".

Re: Why 8th Grade? Butterfly marries TEOM (86,615) (86,623) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Ahh this all makes so much more sense. Now listening to "8th Grade", relating it to Mariah being an outsider at elementary school, being young and exposed to very adult elements and situations in life etc. "8th Grade" is a song title that makes sense. She should have kept the full title "8th Grade, Rough" to give some insight to the lyrical references, however what she said in the Pitchfolk interview, and what she explained in the Genius interview give clarity. These recent interviews have been amazing. I've gotten so used to Mariah giving vague, pussy-footing, non-answers in interviews when asked specific and direct questions about her music, that it's a breath of fresh air to hear her once again explain her art and it's conception in detail the way she did a decade ago. Ok, now that I've gotten my answer, I don't have a single gripe about "Caution" at all. Well, other then I wish "Caution" had two more songs because only 40 minutes of new Mariah is simple not enough sugar for my ears.

Why 8th Grade? Butterfly marries TEOM (86,615) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Question. Why do we think Mariah called the song "8th Grade"? From the amazing music, to vibrant and fresh packaging of the album, to the fantastic promo the era... literally my only gripe with "Caution" is this song title. I love the song. Always on repeat, and love that it's produced by Timba. By why not call it "You're not my world", or something related to the lyrical content or song message. Any insights or thoughts?

"Caution" is brilliant and feels like the album Mariah's always wanted to make. It's feels like the marriage of Butterfly and TEOM.

#1 still going the distance (86,510) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Just a thought: The Distance would have been the perfect song to close out #1 to Infinity album, rather then Infinity. The message and vibe of The Distance would have been a perfect closer and thank you to the fans for the support that gave her 18 #1s. I do like Infiniy, and listen to it regularly, however the celebratory sound and intrumentation of Infinity has never lined up with the diss lyrics imo. The flow from Touch My Body into The Distance would have been smooth, and The Distance's characteristics are more inline with the vibe the first 18 tracks set up. Rename the album "#1: Still Going the Distance". Just a thought for fun.

50k 2018 ... 58k 2014 (86,490) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I'm impressed with 50k for Caution. Mariah has a lot of amends to make with the general public, sadly. After Mariah's World, I think the casual fan gave up. She's been killing it this era with her public persona, in a 1998 fashion. However, to sell 50k with no Billbaord Hot 100 at all. That's bloody, f***'in fantastic. MIAM had a #15 and #88 on Billboard and sold 58k in 2014. This is music sales in 2018 we're dealing with. Drop a Lil' Kim and Cardi B remix of A No No, with a dope, Touch My Body/Heartbreaker level of craftsmanship video, and this ishhh could be a slow burn explosive.

YVR airport GTFO (86,488) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I heard GTFO at the airport in Vancouver on my way to Miami last week. it was a censored version obviously. But I tripped, people were grooving in the airport bar when it played.

Re: Glitter revival (85,902) (85,923) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Seriously, what is with this sudden Glitter revival?. Number 6 on USA iTunes, number 54 on Canadian iTunes. Merry Christmas is at 69 on USA iTunes and 73 on Canadian iTunes. Maybe because so many people overlooked Glitter for the amazing album it is back in the day, and the public is craving music that aren't the standard #1s and regular set-list she plays in concert. Maybe the Glitter revival is an indication of the general public being thirsty for new Mariah music?

Re: Top 4 from Caution (85,916) (85,922) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
1. GTFO
2. The Distance
3. With You
4. A No No
I love them all so far. This sounds like Mariah's most current/pop sounding album since E=MC2 and than Rainbow before that.

Re: Distance - my theory (for laughs) (85,117) (85,122) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I agree that there is a very strategic story being told by the sequence of track releases. However I believe it is:
GTFO: Stella
With You: Tanaka saving Mimi from Packer
The Distance: all the positive, loving, support Lambs who have stuck by her during the worst and darkest periods even when the public turned against her

Re: With You - nostalgia (84,317) (84,327) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Agreed Hilton: which is it? Everybody wants the Mariah they "grew up with" but then have a problem if she's been "doing the same song for the last fifteen years". Which is it? I really like With You. I like GTFO more, but With You has fantastic lyrics and the production is bomb not to mention the promo hasn't been this good since MOIA. In 2018, this is Mariah's voice, this is her vide, this is her expression, this is her art. Have we told Tony Bennet he's been releasing the same song since 1945? No, it's his signature style. You'd be hard pressed to name a laundry list of artists who have explored as many genres as Mariah has in her career. Peace out to all the former fans who are hanging up their Mimi hat in 2018. it's about time, and you'll be a little less miserable without all the pain, heartbreak and disappoint Mariah has caused you since 2008. A decade is a long time to dwell on an idea of a person/artist you created in your mind back in 1995.

Re: GTFO (83,679) (83,687) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Best single cover we've seen in years. Reminds me of "The Roof" single cover, it's beautiful and elegant. Being produced by Nineteen85 is very promising, for those of us that enjoy current R&B Hip Hop and aren't trapped in the '90s. The title totally falls in the vain of Dua Lipa IDGAF.

Article: The 50 biggest singles artists in the digital era (82,882) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
This is a great cross section of Mimi's 28 year career. I've heard some say they feel like "One Sweet Day" doesn't hold up in 2018... apparently it still does.

Re: Live Nation deal (82,371) (82,375) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I would love for Mariah to start performing Loverboy on the regular. I loved her setlists on the Sweet Sweet Fantasy Tour. Also loved the "Heat" opener when I saw her on the All The Hits tour with Lionel and that she sang I'm That Chick (one of my absolute faves).

Re: Allure (82,360) (82,362) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I couldn't agree more. She's stunning, relaxed, chill, cool, cute, funny, engaged. Awe that feels great to say and see. Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande, Christina Aguilera and Celine Dion are all going to drop this year, and there's rumours RiRi will drop as well in 2018. But I think this is all a great thing. I think it sets the stage for a year dominated by extremely talented women who can take us to church with their vocals (Nicki aside). Think more in terms of when Whitney, Toni, Braxton, MC, and Celine were all dominating the charts and compliment each others success at the exact same time; verses the past few years where apparently only one woman can be successful at a time. Also, the new summer jams that has been coming out already are the best it's been in years.
