Fame / WW (48,610)
by Dove from USA
| |
|
|
The reason I think Mariah is not into being famous is because people thirsty for fame want the world to know everything about them and Mariah seems like she values her privacy. The reason I brought up WW is because a lot of young people watch her and all they know about Mariah is what WW says. WW takes her hot topics from the tabloids but she adds her own commentary and opinions about it; these opinions are what viewers latch on to, and make their own, subconsciously. In a way, it's good that she talks about MC, because it keeps her name in the news, but it's also negative because the things WW is saying could stick unless MC comes out at some point and dispels the stories. In that clip I posted, WW is not hailing MC praises but she is considerably nicer than in other clips, and I just wondered why.

I'd never heard of WW before somebody on this board mentioned she was slamming MC so I went and looked up her clips and, yeah, she does make MC look bad. Sometimes she'll give her a compliment but it's usually backhanded. Like when she was suggesting Mariah belonged in tampon covered Atlantic City. I found this clip from a few days ago (start at 4:10) and WW is actually being nice to MC and it seems genuine. The story is probably fake but at least it evokes compassion instead of ridicule. But I also noticed the audience seemed bored with "nice" Wendy. I watched several clips and I do find WW funny and entertaining when she's talking about other people, I just don't like when she slams MC. I feel like MC is in the last stage of her career as a public persona and I don't want her to go out as the butt of everyone's joke. I feel like she's tired of fame. Maybe I'm wrong but it's just a feeling I get, like the passion (for fame) is gone and she's just not into it anymore. She's had enough success, and made enough money, that she can now make music for herself and for her fans without making money or winning awards anymore. My dream is for her to be at the very top one more time, before she slows down, but who knows? I want her to find true live and live happily ever after already. What's Jeter up to?

Last night's Christmas show (48,554)
by Dove from USA

I cried blissful tears watching the clips. It was so beautiful and magical. I wish I could have been there. I hope they release a DVD or digital download. She looked like a living Barbie/dream girl. I don't have enough words to describe the envy I'm feeling for the people who went or are going. My son and I were supposed to go to NY for Christmas this year, too, so it hurts even more to have been so close to seeing her. I'm gonna go cry now.

My Mariah wish list for 2015 (48,553)
by Dove from USA
| |
|
|
1. Bury the hatchet with Walter Afanasief. They both created their best work with each other and that can't be denied. He said it was his dream to work with her again. Give him a chance to redeem himself. Maybe even write some songs about how his betrayal made you feel. We've all felt betrayed by someone we trusted and I think people could relate. Maybe an apology song from his point of view but in Mariah's words, how she would want him to feel and apologise. Also a song about forgiving and finally letting go. They both need to put their egos aside and create some timeless classics again. 2. If there were to only be one more Mariah album I would want it to be uplifting and full of hope, life, and love. How she imagines the future for herself and for her fans. And stripped down. 3. Keep looking great. Endurance training so that she doesn't sound out of breath. 4. Interesting videos by someone new and not the guy who directed Heartbreaker, HATEU, or #Beautiful.

Darryle, I agree. I've always hoped a high quality CD of Mariah's best live performances would be released. I really like her Stevie Wonder cover of You And I and how she sounded singing Without You in the 1996 Tokyo concert. Also love the live versions of Hero and One Sweet Day that were included on the singles.

This is the clip I was talking about the other day. I really wanted it to be a good interview because Mariah looked really pretty but it was just so uncomfortable to watch. It wasn't that bad but the whole vibe felt condescending with the smirks on their faces. I'm sure you all have already seen this interview but I'm wondering if you guys see what I see, or if it's just me. I watched a few more Barbara Walters clips and it seems she's that way with a lot of people. Good for ratings, I guess? I just always thought she was a classy and polite interviewer. One time I saw her talk about, how she knew Betty Ford was an alcoholic, but didn't say anything. I remember thinking, "What a classy lady." Then I watched this interview and it took me by surprise.

B, I couldn't find what you're talking about anywhere. That surprises me because the ABC clip Lee TS posted yesterday seemed pretty fair. I saw the clip of Nick promoting his children's book on GMA and he wasn't trashing Mariah, so that's cool, and the host wasn't prying.

Andrew I think *you* are the problem. People are pointing out the flaws in Mariah's performance because they are bullies and want her out. And it wasn't just pointing out, it was big news with contorted images and all. Why does she have to stop just because people tell her to? What if she still has more to give or she doesn't want to stop? She went on national television to sing the greatest Christmas song of all time for the fans, because some of us still want to hear it, flaws and all. AIWFCIY is one of the most difficult songs to sing. We believe Mariah can still deliver great performances because we've heard her do it over and over this past year. Her legacy is not damaged and either is her voice. You say her voice is "irreparable" but the professional in the news segment (post 48,337) said her days of hitting the high notes are not necessarily over. I think I'm going to go with his opinion over yours. As far as her legacy, there's nothing a little good PR can't fix. She's come back from worse before.

Buy multiple albums (48,385)
by Dove from USA
| |
|
|
I went to lunch with a friend I hadn’t seen in a while and she asked me if I had seen the story about Mariah’s performance. She saw it on the main MSNBC page and thought about me. (The day after the Rockefeller performance, my email blew up with emails from friends I hadn’t heard from in months because they were all thinking about me. Ha ha.) I told her I did see it and asked her if she had heard Mariah’s latest album. She said she hadn’t heard any songs from it and mentioned she only listens to songs that are on the radio, or music her 11 and 13 year old daughters buy. I imagine this is probably common. A lot of my peers have multiple kids now and hardly buy anything frivolous for themselves anymore. I think for those of us who can afford to, if we bought multiple copies of her new album when it’s released, we could find somebody to give them to. I have friends who were huge Mariah fans but now they’re just focused on their kids and don’t buy things for themselves. There's go to be a way to have people buy Mariah's music again.

I agree with a lot of your points. I don’t agree with just laying down and taking people’s incorrect or disrespectful comments, though. I don’t usually make it a habit to feed the trolls or argue because I would rather avoid the drama and, honestly, I just don’t have a lot of free time anymore. But some of the negative commenters are not trolls or haters, they’re youngsters who don’t know better. Many people, especially young people, read gossip sites and/or comments on videos and articles to form their opinions off of what others think. A lot of us do have grown up responsibilities now but if we each left at least one positive comment a day on her videos that would add up over time. If we sit back and do nothing, pretty soon everyone is going to believe that Mariah is: a has-been, whale, alcoholic, with mental health problems, moo-moo, old and ugly, bad mother, stuffed sausage, dresses too young, worthless because her vocal ability has declined, unwanted because her husband left her etc. You guys have seen the comments on every single article and video. When people read these things over and over, they start to believe and agree. Especially young impressionable people. Mariah’s work is ingrained in us and so we notice the blatant rip off right away but Ariana Grande is their favorite artiste and they don’t know Mariah. They identify with Ariana and take anything negative said about her personally. Kind of like us with Mariah. When we attack Ariana we attack their egos because they have already attached themselves to her. So maybe, gently correct them without disrespecting their favorite. She’s a talented young singer who will probably have tons of success but she is not the next Mariah. For one, because Mariah is still around and has legions of fans who are still interested in her person and work. I’m not ready for working Mariah to fade away yet. We need to do our part as fans. If she doesn’t see any incentive to work, why would she? She’s rich and a mother now. She doesn’t need the constant criticism. I’m not referring to those of us on here who offer constructive criticism because we’re frustrated and want to see her back on top where she belongs. I’m talking about the actual haters. (looking at you Wendy Williams).

In a polite society (48,240)
by Dove from USA

It does seem personal how the media portrays Mariah. What do they get out of leaking the isolated vocals and publicly humiliating her? We all heard it, we know her voice has changed since 1994, can't we just celebrate her for all she's accomplished the last 24 years? Another thing I've noticed is that in almost every article they use really unflattering pictures of her. It's almost dehumanizing. I can easily find flattering pictures using Google search, why can't they? And a lot of interviewers are super rude to her. One that I watched again recently is when Mariah went on The View to promote MOAIA. Barbara W. was being super rude and asked her if Nick had proposed to her. This was before Tommy Mottola's book came out where he wrote that Mariah had proposed to him. Then, she brought up condescendingly that Mariah's dog had pooped in the dressing room. There is one girl who goes on every Mariah video on YT and leaves the nastiest comments. Go to any Mariah video and you'll see who I'm talking about. Does she have a job? Is putting Mariah down her job, or does she just hate her with a passion just because? Sometimes people's minds are tired and they're swayed by the subtle power of suggestion. When one person leaves a mean comment other people start agreeing and it snowballs. We need to be strong and think for ourselves.

Next album cover (48,225)
by Dove from USA
| |
|
|
I would like it if on her next album the cover was original artwork by her. Inside in the booklet there can be pictures of her for the people who actually buy the album to see. One of the pictures can be of her face, taken when the sun is setting with no filter. Or at her house hanging out with her kids like the ones she posts on Instagram. Or wearing a fancy gown on a piano but with minimal retouching. Or building sandcastles on the beach with her kids. She can record songs without the super high notes, and melisma, and floating between registers so that she can confidently sing them live if she wants to. Luckily the style of songs that are popular right now are sung simply so she just needs to write good songs like that. I would love just her and the piano or guitar. I would like to hear Sia inspired Mariah. I think that would be magical. I'm craving more deep and raw/real Mariah.

You lost me at lose weight. She looks beautiful and healthy at the weight she's at. I don't see a protruding gut on her. Even when she was pregnant and bigger she still got ready and looked beautiful. She went through a sex symbol era but I don't think she needs to stay there forever if she doesn't want to. People can grow and evolve.

Thoughts (48,206)
by Dove from USA
| |
|

People are going to say mean things no matter what. Sometimes I look at the comment section of Taylor Swift articles, she gets bashed big time too, and she's the it girl right now. I was watching a Sia interview, when she was on Howard Stern, she was talking about how she didn't want to be famous because there are parts of it she didn't like and I could totally relate. I couldn't do it. People think they have a license to say whatever they want about you and criticise everything as if they're flawless. Sometimes I watch people at the airport or at the mall and there are very few people who look like the people we see in movies and magazines. Mariah is a 10. I wish people respected her and enjoyed what she has to give us. Or if they have nothing nice to say, say nothing. Tony Bennet doesn't sing like he used to but people don't slam his voice or wrinkles or grey hair. If she's tired of fame maybe she can just slow down and become a studio artist and focus on preserving her legacy. She doesn't need to tour anymore if she doesn't want to. If/when she gets the performance itch she can have small concerts in New York. It's not like she needs the money. I enjoyed her performance a lot and the audience in the clip seemed to enjoy it too. I appreciate her but it bugs me so much that other people don't. I see her getting slammed for any little thing while other artists can release horrible work but all the articles say only good things about them.

Mariah late for Rockfeller (48,169)

The first thing that popped to my mind is that Mariah was upset that we didn't get her to number 1. But then I thought, if she did show up, they should have let her perform. She's a living legend and national treasure. We should write strongly worded letters of complaint to NBC. And boycott. I'm so disappointed.

My favorite Mariah ensemble (48,136)

If Mariah decided to pull a Albert Einstein/Mark Zuckerberg and wear the same thing everyday, I vote for this ensemble. She looks perfect IMO. I guess she did used to do that until people started complaining. She used to always wear little black dresses, jeans, jean shorts, and the white spaghetti strap tops. Remember in Cribs how she had a whole stack of them?

It's about supporting your favorite artist and helping them get back on the charts. If they're on the charts people will talk about it and it could gain her new fans. Also, if she's popular she's more likely to release new music. It's $6 in the US, which is pretty inexpensive. It would have been nice for more tracks to be included but it was started by fans, not the people releasing the music.
