I kinda want the video to come out, whatever it is, to smash this eternally 12, obsessed over lighting, excuses for voice, all about the ensemble image that she's been clinging to for awhile. A former board member and I were talking about her interview on The View in 2005 whereas she was classy, smart, lucid, humble, beautiful and a star. I want that MC back. And if this is the reality check that will force her to see a 49 year old, mother of twins, icon when she looks in the mirror, hey I'm here for it. I don't want anyone to be humiliated or sad but sometimes ego and pride are monsters that don't disengage on their own. And what's funny is to watch board members here blame the people filming MC in compromising positions and not the superstar in front of the camera. It never ends. (Monday 21 January 2019; 14:19)

Re: With You (87,459) (87,462) by Randy from USA Yup Giving Me Life is another example of someone using gay lingo to write a song, and the music and lyric is boring. 8th Grade is boring. I think MC has set the bar so high that starting with Rainbow there has been a gradual slide of music and lyric quality. Daydream and Butterfly were perfection. Not a single song should've been left off. Now we have albums with great moments but aren't thematic, cohesive or lyrically deep. Look at My All, Outside, Close My Eyes, CTTA, Through The Rain, Reflections (Care Enough), WBT, ISIL, Right To Dream, Languishing. There's not an Adele song out there that compares lyrically and vocally. Nor is there any songs on MIAMTEC or Caution that compares lyrically or vocally. It's almost as if her music is getting younger as she gets older. Do you think lyrically GTFO or Up Out My Face or I Don't fits on Music Box? She was 23 at the time. And by the way I love both those songs but overall as an artist where is the timeless music? Besides Camouflage and Portrait where's lyrical emotional depth? (Sunday 6 January 2019; 20:00)

Re: With You (87,427) (87,433) by Randy from USA I didn't know I wouldn't like it. Unlike others, I don't listen before I buy it. I just buy it the day it comes out. The way it was done pre-internet and illegal downloads. I figured the first singles were horrible but that I would be able to salvage the rest. There's usually a song or two on a Mariah album that I'm not a fan of (except on Butterfly, Daydream and Rainbow). So for these two albums to only have three songs I like a piece, I've concluded she and I are going in two separate musical directions. I now prefer music made by 30 year old Adele which feels more mature and deeper than 48 year old MC. (Saturday 5 January 2019; 15:00)

Singles on Urban AC do not mean she's having success. An album dropping off the chart in four weeks hardly counts as a success and yes the critics love it but where are her fans? I bought the album even though I knew I wouldn't like it, because of With You. I didn't even like MIAMTEC, which I also bought despite the horrible first single. But where are all the Yes Queens and the people that buy 5 copies? No I'm not always negative. No I'm not stuck with 90s MC. In fact, I love Memoirs. But frfr I just think post baby-divorce MC is not meant for me. Ima wait until she's 49 and has to start singing music geared towards people her age and stop wearing Jessica Rabbit ensembles before she's a joke to the general public. Oh wait. That's coming soon isn't it? Well, I've got a right to dream, there's more than this for me. Being in your 20s (87,283) by Randy from USA One of the things that has softened the way I look at MC and her choices, is realizing how young MC was growing up in the spotlight. Having millions of dollars thrust at you as well as adoration and searing criticism. I know what I was doing at 21, getting drunk, throwing up in bar bathrooms, having one night stands, fighting, driving under the influence, not speaking to family members for months at a time, spending ridiculously on credit, letting people use me to gain their approval/love. My point. They say fame magnifies who you are. I was a wild boy and considered my behavior during that period pretty normal. No wonder MC and Whitney needed Tommy and Clive because that could've gone a whole number of different ways. And then to suppress your youth in order to sing adult ballads and appear demure before your time? No wonder once they both got freedom they went all the way left. Any opinions? The promo tour (WWHL, Fallon, GMA) (86,362) by Randy from USA Vocals aside, I think she's doing a fantastic job in her interviews. I wish she didn't have to parade her songwriting ability around because we already know. The public already knows. Aliens on Mars already knows that she writes her own songs. But she looks flawless, not slutty, and she's articulate and has her big words back. I don't love the album but I'm seeing glimpses of why I fell in love with her. Caution: Randy's review (86,100) by Randy from USA I love Mariah Carey and she loves writing songs. So on her 15th album, is it no surprise that she picks up a pen and takes the helm at crafting a cohesive project? Unfortunately, like a reviewer said about her 9th album, Charmbracelet, all of the colors and styles attempted on the album mix together and wash themselves into a pool of muddy brown. It's not ambition that dulls this set; its monotony in the second half. Oh, don't get it twisted, the album starts with GTFO which in my opinion was never given its due as an amazing single, but it lets you know MC is not playing with you. The first official single is the second track and that's all I'm going to say about that snoozer. The title track comes next and it is an interesting warning to tremble ahead. It's definitely a thinker's song. A No No has the biggest hit potential on the album. The Distance took awhile to grow to listenable, as it was released as a B side before the album. Originally I thought it was boring but boring begins with Giving Me Life, and no an alternate ending doesn't save it, and lasts until you get to Portrait. Mariah's obligatory introspective song. I love Portrait. I am glad that the album is ten songs and under 45 minutes as a nap shouldn't be so long as to interfere with one's sleep. This is the second to worst MC album and the only reason it's better than MIAMTEC, her worst in my opinion, is because MC had the foreknowledge to not torture her fans and keep this descent into legacy diminishing short. I wish Epic had an ounce of courage and promoted this fully. With You is as boring as I would imagine missionary sex with Ryan Seacrest would be. My point. I love GTFO. There For Me has the most dramatic intro, those piano chords and strings let you know something serious is about to happen. And the way she sustains those notes in the hook and at the end. She had the nerve to say MC comes in and changes what's already written and that's how she gets a songwriting credit. Everyone knows MC writes her own lyrics and melody. And Wendy has the nerve to say that Missy is a natural treasure as a songwriter. I love Missy but one of her lyrics is "Can I put my boot on top of your spaghetti daddy?" And what burned me up more than anything, Norman, who claims to be a lamb, defended MC but let Wendy talk him into downplaying MC's role in her songs and agreed with her. Yes Norman, Wendy is your boss, maybe Wendy is your dude on the side, but no amount of money or fame is worth you speaking the opposite of what you know to be true. I'm outraged. MC and fans have been making excuses for her voice for years and no other singer in the world does that. At least not over and over. Let's count em down: It's cold in here (David Letterman 94). They were pumping smoke into the air, Fresh Air Fund benefit (Rosie 97 and Howard Stern 98). Food poisining, MJ's casket, not enough sleep, ear monitors, corset, and now bi-polar. Just on and on and on. At this point, it's kind of funny to me. I can't wait for the next excuse. I'm not mad at MC for the loss, I'm mad for the deceit. I believe something happened before 98 though. After Daydream Tour in Tokyo and before she went on Oprah in 97. I know I know before a hundred of you say it, we're beating a dead horse. And a lot of people claim to have a crush on me but when they meet me I have to sing, "You Don't Know What To Do". Nah I'm not happy with this era. I think anyone on this board, including those who don't like me, would handle MC better than her current handlers. We all agree on very little but we would've led with A No No and she would not have an album of ten songs and she would not be wearing Jessica Rabbit gowns nor would she be recording songs she couldn't sing live. A No No No (85,563) by Randy from USA I finally listened to it. There's a lot going on in my personal life right now. It sounds amazing. My tastes are a bit different than you all: I like Bye Bye more than Migrate, I like MOAIA more than MIAMTEC and I think the best song MC has ever written is RTD. I do agree that this should have been the first single with a hot video with a Lil Kim appearance. I do love GTFO but they killed it before it had a chance to fly, calling it a buzz single. And then they had the nerve to release With You as the first single when the song is as boring as white wall paper with white carpet in the waiting room of a doctor's office. You all say this era is being handled perfectly but A No No is undeniable so again why is it not the first first single? And why is the fourth song released before the album? And I'm not talking about getting on stage for a performance. I mean every single contestant and judge called her one of the greatest vocalists of all time, and yet she couldn't vocally demonstrate what she wanted them to do with certain runs, words, phrases, notes? Kelly did. And MC's commentary wasn't vocally specific in most cases. Someone saying I need to hear your heart is not helpful. I was disappointed in the two hours of pretty much no vocal help from someone everyone considered a vocal icon. I will admit Dee and Gee, she was very humble and she looked amazing. She gave the appearance that I would expect from a kind supermodel, not from who everyone on the show agreed was one of the best vocalist who ever lived. (Tuesday 30 October 2018; 21:11)

She said she would put it on a Christmas album one day and then we got MCIIYou. No My Favorite Things. MC needs to put a remake or something out there. An album with only 10 tracks? I'm pissed. And we have no details on the deluxe. Only on vinyl? But yeah we waited four and a half years. I'm sure she's recorded more than ten songs. And if 10 is the case, we've heard 30% of the album. The Distance / MC's music (85,151) by Randy from USA So, I didn't pre-order the album and today I decided to listen to The Distance for the first time. I have to say that I didn't like it at all. What it all boils down to is musical preference. I am a big fan of lyrics and songs not about love. I feel like romantic love has been explored enough by pop/r&b. The Distance is boring. With You is boring. I did like GTFO a lot but overall I'm not doing any whining or complaining because I know my tastes aren't the general public's. Who knows what will stick these days which is why all artists are just catapulting singles until something hits. When have you ever seen MC release three songs a month before an album before? And let's not count all the singles she's released that won't make it on an album. That's the new thing. If there was a surefire way to get a number one or a hit everyone would do it. That's why people tryna steer MC career and single choices is funny. She's gonna have to strike a chord or be hit by lightening at the right place and the right time for her to have a massive success. I just hope this album has at least one Right To Dream, Languishing, Looking In, Outside or Close My Eyes on it. Oh and btw I don't even agree with you guys half the time. I like MOAIA more than MIAMTEC and I definitely like Bye Bye more than Migrate. Getting a hit, to me, is more about being universal than dads and trends. Look at Adele. Mariah: queen of the redo (84,808) by Randy from USA Bill I don't agree she engineered her vocals then. In fact I don't think she engineered vocals until Rainbow. I think she wanted to be alone in 98 so she could re-do it over and over until she was satisfied. Whitney was a one take artist. It's funny. I think MC has been that way since the beginning and live was never her thing. Narada Michael Walden who worked with both of them said in an interview in the early 90s that Whitney comes from a background of singing. She comes in and it's natural. Mariah is a singer with a crazy ear. Funny she needs an ear monitor now. Anyway he said that Mariah can replicate anything she heard exactly but she records things over and over until they're perfect. He said of I Don't Wanna Cry there was a part she kept recording over and over so many times, he had to stop her because she was erasing good vocals that were better than the ones she was putting down to replace what she was not satisfied with. Narada Michael Walden produced I Don't Wanna Cry for MC and Where Do Broken Hearts Go for Whitney. So my point is that Mariah during When You Believe wanted to re do it until it was right and Whitney came in the booth and probably got right the hell out in 5 minutes. I would use an analogy to the differences in acting. Whitney would be like a theater actress can hit it perfectly live on stage. Then go back and watch MC lip sync on Oprah in 97, 7 years into her career or sound a mess on The View singing Vision of Love in 98, 8 years into her career. AMA / disgruntled fans sticking around (84,707) by Randy from USA Let me put a stop to this dispute, as we all know who has 18 #1 posts with a 7 noctave voice and is the biggest selling mefail artist in history. Me. Now I know, my fellow rejects: Adam, Andrew, Edward, This is ghm may tie me to a chair in a big empty mansion and beat me up for saying this but: My bar has been set so low that I thought she did a good job at the AMAs she didn't embarrass herself and as a very public fan on social media, she didn't embarrass me. No one hit me up to criticize her or had a snarky thing to say to me. She did what she needed to do. Appear to sing and not appear washed up or have severe technical difficulties. Now for those who don't understand why people who criticize MC stick around. Let's get with the criticism. This is Mariah Carey. You do realize at one time she was considered a freak of nature, seventh wonder of the world vocalist, the best singer amongst the likes of Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and one of the heirs to Aretha and Patti's thrones. She was voted by MTV as the greatest voice in the last 22 years 13 years into her career. So someone that is a living legend and an icon for her voice should be able to stand up and sing a simple song right? It was heartbreaking for me to see CeCe Winans and Gladys Knight sound like themselves and they've been singing just as long if not longer than MC. But here you come with she has nodules, her ear monitor wasn't working, the casket was right in front of her, her corset was too tight, she didn't get 8 hours sleep, she's insecure, there are nuances in her voice that most people won't get but people understand belters with a church background, her humidifier wasn't working, she is getting a divorce, she has food poinsoning, she's bipolar, she's insecure and has stage fright, she was at the fresh air fund and they were pumping smoke into the room and it killed her voice, her background singers were singing her part, she didn't want to upstage Aretha and be disrespectful. Did I get them all? I've never seen a legendary singer give so many excuses or have fans that created so many excuses. And we are talking about the iconic MC, not marginal Brandy Monica Keyshia Cole etc. The top of the heap and she can't sing anymore? So why stay? We are an emotional bunch of people. You would have to be to be a Mariah Carey fan. What 20 year old writes a song like Vanishing? How could a ditzy diva could compose Looking In, Close My Eyes, Outside, Petals, Reflections (Care Enough), Twister, Through The Rain, Languishing, Camouflage or Right To Dream? We know what's there. And we have an emotional investment. If you even think of the fun songs, ABMB, Heartbreaker, Honey or Touch My Body, they take you back to a moment in time. So to end this before Eric cuts me off. We all want MC to win and the frustrating thing is that she seems to be doing things that are self sabotage. But for the level of vocal genius, songwriting ability and nostalgia, there is no one else for us to go to. So we're going to keep on keeping on until she has another genius moment because we Can't Let Go. And we shouldn't have to sit on the sidelines and be silent because our love has been proven.
