John, it took me ten minutes to realize what you were talking about. I don't know why but I have always liked that song although it is cheesy af. For those who didn't get it we are talking about Mariah's sole rapping credit, Prisoner. I'll see you lata cuz. You're just a playa. That's not my fault. And imagine if MC had her way and saved Love Takes Time for her second album and the first album ended on Prisoner. Scary, huh.

You all are missing out on the best version of Fantasy. It is the Bad Boy Mix which I think is track 4 on the maxi-single. It has both the pop hook and ODB on it. It's the only one I listen to. I love Honey with Mase and The Lox. I hate the Jermaine Dupri remix. I love Gucci Mane on Obsessed. I love both The Roof extended Mobb Deep and Breakdown extended Bobe Thugs. I love the Nicki Minaj verse on Up Out My Face. My All/Stay Awhile with the rap is also a favorite.

Even though I like the O.D.B. remix of Fantasy, I've always preferred the album version. It was the first version I heard, and without that epic soothing intro, the remix just doesn't have the same impact.
As for Heartbreaker, I prefer the version featuring Jay-Z. The non-rap version stills sounds great to me, but without his verse, it feels like it's missing something.

Article: Brother accuses Mariah of orchestrating YouTube video (108,469)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
You know one of the most interesting things to come out of the Oprah interview in 2020, was when they talked about the duality of famous people's relatives feeling both entitled to handouts and hateful jealousy that their family member doesn't deserve what they get. I really feel as though MC would've given her family the world. Now I will happily say MC loves yes people, sycophants around her. With family she just wanted a degree of loyalty and I think Pat, Alison and Morgan disappointed and hurt her deeply. I hate to see him put her through this.

All this drama from Morgan and the late Alison. Surely it would have just been easier to stay friends with Mariah, I'm sure she wouldn't have seen them out of pocket. But no they wanted more and became greedy. Now they won't get a single penny from her. Must be awful when your own family sees you as a paycheque. Had they not gone down the path they have I'm sure they would have led a comfortable life courtesy of Mariah, but people always want more and more.

I disagree about E=MC2 not being a vocal high, especially Thanx4Nothing, I love that octave change and sustained note at the end. You can't tell me I can't sing when I'm belting that out. And of course, y'all are tired of me saying it, but the final chorus and ad libs of y'all least favorite single Bye Bye are legendary to me. I will give you 5 points for Mine Again which is beautiful.

I heard that same thing mentioned by other people, including Mariah herself. But it just doesn't make sense to me, TEOM had WBT, ILT, FLB and of course the gem that is Mine Again (which I personally would say is one of her best vocally sung studio songs in her entire discography). Compare that to Thanks 4 Nothing, and IWYW on E=MC2. The vocals just don't compare. Maybe her voice was more consistent during E=MC2 but TEOM has better vocal highs.

I don't Heart (108,375)
by Randy from USA
| |

Thank you Shezz and Edward for reading my message and understanding what I was trying to say. You know, if you ask an average person on the street who the great singer songwriters are, they will say Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Jewel maybe Alicia Keys, Sarah McLachlan, Lauryn Hill, Paula Cole. The reason why I care about the way MC carries herself image wise is because she is lumped in with the vanity songwriters. Madonna is a songwriter. Janet Jackson is a songwriter. Beyonce is a songwriter. Do you really think MC is on the level of the three I just mentioned? But to the general public and the music industry it's like "yeah yeah yeah you write songs". If I could get an earth-wide loudspeaker and closed captioning in the sky, I'd play Close My Eyes, Languishing, Petals, Butterfly, Vanishing, My All, Outside, Looking In and Right To Dream for the world. But since I don't have those means the most I can do is scream on this board, MC you're making a fool of yourself and tarnishing your legacy. Check out this exchange here. And of course there will be those who insult Wendy and downplay what was said. But if Mariah talks about lighting, ensembles, says she's eternally 12, and has a man to carry her umbrella, is anyone gonna believe she writes the best kcufin songs ever recorded? Oh and let me address the bitter old queen remark. I can't say what I want to say because it won't get posted. You could never, on your best day, with AI assistance, outwit me. I have a resume and a CV. Find yourself a schoolmate with a chipped tooth and peanut allergy to play with. I'm the principle principal up in this bitch. That's all.

People have called me evil, a monster and Satan on this board for years. I really said I would start being more positive once I realized what we do to our superstars i.e Whitney, Prince and Michael. But when I saw MC talk about the lighting and her ensemble at the beginning of her speech last night, I was devastated. At a time I'm trying to make everyone around me take her, her catalogue and artistry seriously for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame vote, I just felt like a fool. And what burned me up even most was all the 'Yass queen, slay' in the YouTube comments. Do they know the genius that once resided in that hollow shell? I'm tryna get people to take her as seriously as Joni Mitchell because I really believe in her talent that much. I have to wonder was she high or drunk last night. I just feel so stupid for blaming Stella for that era or Jermaine Dupri for MIAMTEC's rollout. A lot of Mariah's problem is Mariah. Get some help. PS I did enjoy her mentioning Pat. Oh and I guess she and Anderson Paak are a thing. Eric where's the barf emoji?

Always Be My Nodules (108,348)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
So, I'm doing some insomniac strolling through social media, and I see a video of Monica talking about why she has sounded a mess as of late. She had surgery and went back to singing and didn't listen to her doctor's instructions. I did some digging and found out she had surgery on her nodules. My jaw was as wide as Kelly Price's at Thanksgiving. Monica had been sounding awful according to clips I saw on Tik Tok and I just passed it off as maybe she wasn't as talented as I once thought. I even went so far as to declare the boy now belonging to Brandy. Monica is of little consequence to me because she was never vocally on MC, Celine or Whitney's level. But what this means for MC speaks volumes. Maybe she heard about the risk and was like "Nah, I'm good." What if they told her she could lose her whistle? That's part of her brand now. Although, side note, I'd rather the high chest belts more than the whistle. She uses that as a crutch to prove she still has "it". She now whistles more than a thousand gay tea kettles in London. But seriously, Monica was talking about a four month rehab and recovery. We all know discipline is the arch-nemesis of Mariah Carey. Even if she had the surgery, you think she would listen to instructions? I really want y'all to weigh in on this. Not you Kelly Price. I just can hear MC singing to her nodules, "You'll always be a part of me."

Robert grow a pair. You are the balance this board needs. Do not pay attention to whoever that said whatever. I haven't paid attention to her since she used to be popular. I used to say all the time we need you, Terna, jacker20 to balance the equation. My job, and when Andrew was here's job was to unbalance it. Anyway, to bring us to all back on point, I don't mind MC being last out of Mary, Madonna, Janet and Whitney. I mind the constant rejection, if it happens again. I could care less she married the Svengali that discovered her, that her live performances are as inconsistent as JLo's love life or that she'd rather appear a ditz obsessed with lighting than a living legend. MC is the best singer songwriter combination of all time. She has the record sales, lyrics, melodies and fans to prove it. This industry is biased against her and it shows. PS this is an industry that has given Britney Spears and Nicki Minaj MTVs Video Vanguard award before Paula Abdul, who hasn't received it. Think about that.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (108,330)

Y'all know I've been critical of MC due to lip syncing and such but this Rock and Roll Hall of Fame thing is getting me down. All of her peers, and I mean all of them, are in there. Mary, Whitney, Madonna and Janet. This is exactly in line with a lot of us have been saying for years. The industry doesn't respect her or her accomplishments. Look at her tributes. Look at her award count. Like this kinda matters. But ok. I'm beating another dead horse as y'all point out with me constantly.

Free music (108,279)
by Randy from USA

You know MC wouldn't be in this situation if we still had "the CD". I hate to sound old like a Generation X-er but there was a magic to going to the store, tearing the cellophane off, ripping that annoying plastic tape off the top and opening a disc. Reading the producers, songwriters and thank you's. Mariah could be making music and making money from that. But now that everything is free once it hits the internet she has to tour. In a way, I was glad because the record companies were greedy. Refusing to issue singles in the late 90s to force you to buy a whole album that may suck. Natalie Imbruglia anyone? But ultimately digital music failed the artists most. There's a coupe of great documentaries on it too. Oh well. I like retelling the experience to my nieces and nephews about how I was in Sam Goody buying Glitter when the towers fell. They look up and ask Uncle Randy, why were you buying supplies to make arts and crafts?

The issue I have (108,274)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
I can't be mad at Mariah for giving bad performances on miming. It's something everyone should expect. She's been doing it consistently since Charmbracelet when I saw her. If you go to a Mariah Carey or Anita Baker concert, you'll know they don't want to be there. Lauryn Hill and Madonna are always going to be late. Chaka Khan is gonna be high or drunk. None of this is news and yet people still shell out hundreds of dollars to see them? And then complain. These are karaoke artists. You go to sing and bask in their presence. Not to be entertained.

I didn't know she signed with Live Nation. What bothers me about that is she's never been much of a performer. Even when she had the voice. I get record companies aren't handing out piles of cash to sign her but what about her past royalties? They're not enough to keep her afloat? I remember when she and Nick filed for divorce and some of the financials leaked. It surprised me that MC only made $4 million one year. For me, that would set me for retirement. But for her, the overhead, dahing. Trey Lorenz's sparkly blazer dry cleaning bills, Mary Ann Tatum's vocal coach studio rent, Evian with gold flakes for the dogs, Kristopher Buckle's contouring techniques copyright use, the squire who holds her iPhone, the squire who holds her Android, the rhinestone encrusted Suburban she is carried around in. She needs to seriously scale it back or sell her catalogue in one of those ridiculous publishing deals, if she plans to live at her present level. Maybe she should've married Packer. I kid. I kid.

Remaining Vegas shows (108,241)

Did you all forget? She does have to be there and keep doing shows. She signed a touring deal with Live Nation at the end of 2017. Her new residency had already begun that year, so they missed out on that and 2017's Christmas season too. Stella was out and Jay's team moved in. Live Nation only had her half the time because the residency took up so much time. It's why she needed an album out in 2018, so they could schedule her next year. Right after the AMA's in the pink dress LN sent her to Asia for a 1 month greatest hits tour before sending her back to the US to finish promoting her album and then doing Christmas shows before having her go on tour for Caution. She still had her residency and then the 25th anniversary of Christmas. Mariah was working around the clock which is why she fired Jay's management team for a smaller manager that would give her more breaks and smaller venues. Probably less commission too. Live Nation was looking forward to 2020 since all her old contracts would be up and 100% of her touring belonged to them, but that didn't happen due to the pandemic. It's why they're working her so hard now.

The clothing and perfuming offerings are bad ideas RA. The market is saturated. But you are definitely onto something with the writing and producing for other artists as an artist. Mariah can write circles around Kandi Burruss, Montell Jordan and Neyo. Look what they've done for others. And she could definitely write as well as those I consider close to her league Lauryn Hill, R Kelly, Babyface and Kanye. Again, look at what they've done for others. She could've written for Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, Harry Styles or any other new artists that sell a lot of records and she could do a live festival once a year.

MC needs something else to enhance her career instead of perfoming. I would love to see her partner with a cosmetics or clothing company using an original song sung by another artist. I would even be elated if she took some time off from performing for 1 year. Plus, Beyond the Gates on CBS is going to keep me glued to the TV with this hot new daytime soap opera cast. I have never seem a more attractive and talented cast on new TV program. I can't wait until Monday.

I just don't see the fire. Mariah has been like this off and on since Stella. It would scare me more if she moved around the stage, had banter and wasn't singing along to her own voice in the background. I 100% get she doesn't want to be there but that's common knowledge and people will still go see her because she's an icon. My concern is it does reek of financial trouble and not necessarily, I love to perform so much I don't know when to bow out gracefully. Mariah is fine. She is gigging to make sure she can keep Kristopher Buckle, Mary Ann Tatum, Trey Lorenz, Daniel Moore, the umbrella holder, the rental in LA, the G5, the upkeep on the NYC pad and the house in the Bahamas taken care of. I don't see Whitney Houston's decline. I see more of a Joan Crawford, Judy Garland thing here. "I'm Mariah, dahling. I can't be broke."

Mariah doesn't need no man (108,181)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
I don't think she was ever in love with Tommy. I think she was in love with Luis and she was in love with Nick. The rest are companionships. Her issue right now is what her issue has been since birth. Insecurity. It is hard being in the world eye when you are considered one of the best vocalists who have ever lived and are having problems with your voice. It is hard when you come out and meet your idols Aretha, Patti, Olivia Newton John and Diana. Now you are their age and the girls that are popular are on the charts and winning awards are Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo. MC hates touring but needs the money to keep the umbrella holder and her three homes. Tanaka may have been a comfort but he's not the reason she's in pieces. MCs real problem is that she is under pressure about vocal ability, aging and finances.

MC doing the Superbowl (108,167)
by Randy from USA

Edward I dunno. I think the music is what the audience will respond to. That set list is killer. Put Mariah on a pedestal and let the set, dancers, lasers, pyrotechnics do the work. Again let me remind you. Emotions, Dreamlover, Fantasy, Always Be My Baby, Honey, Heartbreaker, It's Like That, Touch My Body and Obsessed. That's crazy and then to end it with Hero, We Belong Together. It's got massive sing along appeal. Sure we're tired of those songs but the general public would love it. And I think this would help undo some of the thaw her out November 1 mentality.

Randy, with your setlist, I think Mariah from '94 to 2012 would've absolutely crushed a Super Bowl halftime show. Back then, she could at least move around and command the stage with confidence. But these days, I just don't see her keeping up with the fast pace of a show like that. Everything happens so quickly, and I feel like she'd just end up standing there, kind of frozen, like a deer in headlights. Plus, whatever meds she's on seem to have a dazing effect on her. That time has passed.

Ok. After Kendrick Lamar we need to revisit MC doing the Superbowl. I'm not a Kendrick Lamar fan (not my generation) so I was bored but this proves now MC could really do the halftime show. She can lipsync her way through it, look gorgeous and do her sway to Emotions, Dreamlover, Fantasy, Always Be My Baby, Honey, Heartbreaker, It's Like That, Touch My Body and Obsessed with sick dancers and of course a thousand costume changes. And if she had to do slow songs she could do Hero, We Belong Together to close out. Tell me MC wouldn't have all of America rocking to that playlist. I got excited writing it. But as a fan my secret wish playlist would be Someday, Fantasy, Always Me My Baby, Honey, The Roof, Breakdown, Heartbreaker, Loverboy, Side Effects, You Don't Know What To Do and GTFO - close out with Anytime You Need A Friend, Right to Dream, Languishing and Never Forget You. Her catalogue is sick.

I always try to remember what Special K said to me once when I was going hard on Mariah's deception, "What what you have her do?" Honestly, at this point everyone likes documentaries. So, maybe something about the voice with a doctor telling her on camera, "If you keep on pushing this, you'll never sing again." And that being the catalyst for a change in her arrangements and her new sound. Don't address the past 28 years, which by the way there are tons of dissertations and dissections on MCs voice that I am now discovering on YouTube and RIP TikTok. Some of which are hours long. This board used to make me feel alone for my rants about the voice and now I realize, I'm not crazy. Other people knew what was going on all along since that fateful day on Oprah in 1997 when she lip synced all but the end of the song Butterfly. That was unlike anything we had ever seen MC do. But here's the time for Terna and LibraLamb to say I am a broken record or ranting. I know. I know. Don't address you if I wasn't sent for. MC doesn't need any label exec or manager to get her a hit. She needs an undeniable song and concept. I like Cher's Believe a lot. MC needs a song that everyone will like across all formats and we will have another hit. For as much as I have been hard on MC over the last 28 years, I acknowledge time, I know two things. #1 People generally like her even if they are laughing at her at times. #2 You never count her out.

Randy, your post brought three questions to my mind. First question, when was MC's last tour that she did not use any backing tracks? Was it the Daydream tour or The Butterfly tour? Second question, what would be the repercussions of MC sitting down with Oprah or Gayle King and telling the world about the deterioation of her voice? Third question, could the music industry and network television help MC's career in 2025 by recognizing her accommplishments and career defining moments with some type of television special celebrating MC? Final question, could Jimmy Iovine or Ryan Seacrest help restore MC's career to a Daydream or Butterfly level? Tommy, Benny, and L.A. helped propel MC's career to higher levels. She needs a strong innovative business man in 2025.

Let me hop on in here for a minute. MC doesn't need to make a last album or stop touring. She needs to refashion her songs to unplugged versions with current everyday vocal ability. And record in current everyday vocal ability. You know, like she did with the three new tracks on #1s in 1998.

MC would never do that. She is too much of a perfectionist. Kudos to Cher.

Number ones and ... number twos? (107,801)

I've come out of hibernation to share some interesting chart statistics with you. If you kept reading the chart statistics from the most recent article, Billboard compiled the longest running number one and number two pairings.
13 weeks: No. 1, "All I Want for Christmas Is You," Mariah Carey / No. 2, "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," Brenda Lee (2019-24)
11 weeks: No. 1: "A Bar Song (Tipsy)," Shaboozey / No. 2, "I Had Some Help," Post Malone feat. Morgan Wallen (2024)
11 weeks: No. 1, "One Sweet Day," Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men / No. 2, "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)," Whitney Houston (1995-96)
10 weeks: No. 1, "Lose Yourself," Eminem / No. 2, "Work It," Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott* (2002-03)
9 weeks: No. 1, "Old Town Road," Lil Nas X feat. Billy Ray Cyrus / No. 2, "Bad Guy," Billie Eilish (2019)
9 weeks: No. 1, "Hello," Adele / No. 2, "Sorry," Justin Bieber (2015-16)
9 weeks: No. 1, "Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix)," Los Del Rio / No. 2, "I Love You Always Forever," Donna Lewis* (1996)
9 weeks: No. 1, "Physical," Olivia Newton-John / No. 2, "Waiting for a Girl Like You," Foreigner* (1981-82)
Ya'll know I am obsessed with number twos, Ms. Carey having four of her own Can't Let Go, Endless Love, Loverboy and Shake It Off.
I love that Whitney was able to do a week at number one and then eleven at number two as currently Exhale is my favorite song by her.
Back to my cave.

You know what's weird? I saw some parts of the show where she was singing (same ol shtick-sing a slow intro then when the band comes in, the backtrack comes in). But she did have a twinkle in her eyes that wasn't there in Vegas.
